LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A shooting in Los Angeles Thursday night struck a convoy of cars, one of which was carrying rapper Snoop Dogg.

Authorities said one of the musician's bodyguards was injured. Snoop Dogg was not hurt.

Police said up to five cars were traveling through the Mid-City area when the shooting happened at about 9 p.m. (PST). The rap star's entourage included seven bodyguards -- five were from the Inglewood school district and two were state parole officers.

Another car pulled alongside the convoy and three men with guns opened fire. Police Sergeant Brian Owen said it appeared that one of the gunmen wanted to speak with the rapper, and words were exchanged before bullets hit two of the cars.

An off-duty police officer with the Inglewood school district was shot in the back. He was taken to a hospital and released early Friday.

It's unclear if the wounded man was in the same car as Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was questioned by police along with the bodyguards and other people who were with him. Owen saids he does not expect 31-year-old Broadus and the others to be booked for a crime.

No arrests have been made.

That was my first thought.

Even if it wasn't him. Why is he not in prison.

Fuck this. Snoop shouldn't be shot at ever. He's like the coolest man alive, who would want to kill him. Fuck Suge Knight. Fuck him hard.

Which coast in this stupid rap feud is he on? Or is this not east vs. west or whatever it's called?

Calvin Broadus?

Anyway... what makes everyone so sure it's Suge? Maybe I'm just naive, but other than switching labels whilst Knight was in prison, what reasoning would there be?

but other than switching labels whilst Knight was in prison,

Someone over four sees thatas a good reason to kill a man?

Well, it's not just strictly business; IIRC, Snoop recorded an unreleased album of disses aimed towards Knight and Deathrow Records. I'm not sure if he released any disses in his No Limit albums since I don't like those albums, but that's quite possible as well.

Damnit Suge...go shoot fuckers like P-diddy (or whatever the fuck he's calling himself now) or Nelly

I personally don't think that's a good reason, however, a major factor in rap's, particularly gangsta rap's (which was Knight's specialty) is street cred. For anyone who doesn't understand how being "outrapped" in a diss feud is a bad thing, the easy answer is that you lose street cred, and in theory, nobody should want to buy records from a bitch that got his ass handed to him in a rhyme. Usually, feuds stay to the tape decks, however, Knight has the kind of personality where he couldn't except losing street cred and sales, because it's really the only thing he could do to legally make a lot of money, and would resort to extreme measures. Doesn't make it right by any standards, and I certainly don't agree with it, but that's why it would've happened if it happened.

I liken it to Tanya Harding and Nacy Kerrigan; Harding couldn't accept that Kerrigan beat her and made her look bad, so she took matters into her own hands. Most ice skaters, like most rappers/promoters, would never take such action, but because of Harding's volatile personality (I'm grasping at straws here, I really don't know much about Harding) she thought that was an acceptable action.

Snoop released Pimp Slap'd on his new album and one of the lyrics is Suge Knight's a bitch and that's on my life.

And Anglesault...you couldn't look any more ignorant by asking what coast he's on. You don't like rap...we get it. Why waste your time posting this thread and looking like a moron?

Okay. I'm igorant as to the specific pety reasons why these barbarians all want to kill each other. So I ask a question, hoping to get answer.

It's just the way you phrased it, and honestly I have no idea why anyone would want to kill Snoop.

If it's Suge Knight...rapping doesn't have anything to do with it. He's just insane.

And again, I'm the only one shocked and/or appalled that this man was almost killed, possibly over something so fucking stupid. If that's true, fans of rap need to realize what a black eye that is on their genre and they have to let "Suge" know that enough is enough. If that's what happened.

I don't know if Suge had anything to do this one, since he was on the Kimmel show Saying "Support Snoop because he's still making me money." But you know people sell alot more when they're dead. The feud Snoop and Suge is not only a rap thing which is about Suge screwing Snoop out of money, this is also gang issue as well since Suge is a Blood and Snoop is a Crip. Im suprised that Suge hasn't gone after Daz yet because he took 400,000 dollars from Suge while he was locked up. I glad Suge doesn't have any power in the rap industry anymore because no one is scared of him. As much as I want to see a black run major label, I hope the Murder Inc/Death Row/Rap-a-Lot Merger doesnt take off. All Suge can do for now is give Pac samples away to Murder Inc. and go to the vault and release old material, and release Crooked I's album (im hoping he does).

There are major black run labels. But most are co-ownership. Like:

Shady/Aftermath/Interscope.

Roc-a-fella/Def Jam

Murder Inc/Def Jam

Bad Boy/Arista

Cash Money/Universial

ect. ect. ect.

Nope, they're independent labels thats distributed by major labels, if they were major labels they wouldn't need to be distributed by a Def Jam, Interscope, and etc. Only Def Jam maybe somewhat is black run because of Russell Simmons which he co found with Rick Rubin. Russell gave up his power to Lyor Cohen who runs the daily operations at Def Jam.

It has nothing to do with raps.

It boils down to people who grow up in the ghetto have nothing. They have no money, cars, and sometimes no hope - except to work at Mcdonalds for 10 years and become a GM...the only thing they have is their pride - and they'll die for it. Also if you lose self respect in the poorer areas - you're prone to being robbed because you're a bitch.

That mentality stayed with Suge - and rapping isn't "Just music" like most people think. The words are taken literally and seriously - and Snoop trying to take Suge's self respect away - it leads to violence.

Not that the behaviour is acceptable or anything - but Snoop is very well aware of the danger he puts himself into by talking shit on Suge and his wife...if he wasn't ready to die for his words he should have shut his fucking mouth.

Hey, I think I heard the same thing said about the American Revolution. Because, those two things are on par with each other.

But honestly, since this Suge person is mentally deficient, people are semi-justifying this?

I'm explaining, not justifying.

Suge's a mobster. I know people from S.C. and he has half of compton LAPD paid off. He's a muderer. He's a drug kingpin. He's detrimental to society. He's probably beyond reform.

That is WHY YOU DON'T MAKE A SONG THREATENING TO KILL HIM. Because you will be shot at. Any bullet snoop takes will be his own damn fault.

Hey guys, could it be that Snoop Dogg was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Could it have nothing to do with Suge Knight and it was just somebody trying to rob him. I doubt Suge would have anything to do with this, since he is in jail and under intense scrutiny from the local law enforcement agencies. Snoop Dogg was at a place where he shouldnt have been and he almost paid for it.

I dont believe that Suge has the entire LAPD paid off in Compton because the Compton doest even have the LAPD. The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department runs law enforcement in Compton and the Sheriffs Department snt as corrupt as the LAPD. If he is all the things you say he is, then why isnt he dead or in jail by now. Someone would have done by now.

Also, this stupid feud shit has to stop. Its killing rap music and its so petty and dumb it makes me scream. I dont care if you have street cred just make good music dammit!!!

I don't feel like you do, still fly. There are a million other topics you can talk about besides how tough you are - and it won't draw violence to you.

When you say you're a killer, killers will test you. If you don't want that kind of heat, then rap about something positive. Nobody was trying to murder Common when he had a platinum album out talking about healing society - nobody tries to murder pussy ass rock stars who sing about love and that bullshit.

Shut the fuck up about how many guns you have, who you beat up, and how many people you shot, and how many kilos you moved - and the violence will end.

Guest Still Fly

Thats where kinda disagree with you on there Eyebrow. Even if you dont talk about violence, there are about 10 jealous people waiting to knock you off. Sucess comes with the price. Look what happened to John Lennon or Jam Master Jay. These two artists didnt talk about violence in there music. Jealous people took them out. There are always people who want to knock you off because they are jealous.

I agree that rappers need to stop rapping about all the guns and stuff. I mean they should at least be conscience about the people who hear their music. Peopel are so impressionable. I wish there were more positives in the rap music. The good news is that the more positive rappers like Common and Talib Kweli and to some extent NAS and Jay-Z are trying to become more positive. Unfortuanely you have people like 50 cent (I love 50 but its true) incitng more violence. I mean he is so 2 dimensional I wish he would start doing more positive things. I could give 2 shits if he was a gangsta or not.
