Guest mesepher Report post Posted March 23, 2002 Just wondering if anyone belonged to either BMG or Columbia House... was thinking about joining, but their web site is vague on the details any help?
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted March 23, 2002 I was with BMG for a couple years. It's pretty good, and you can get some great deals. But there are a couple problems with it. 1) The selection: Pretty mainstream. I quit the service a couple years ago, but I never saw a Sevendust CD in there. And you have to wait 2 or 3 months to get newer stuff in. 2) Every month you will get their catalog with an order form. It lists a featured CD. You HAVE to send this form back to them, even if you don't want to buy anything. If you don't send it in by the listed date, they will send you the featured CD, and you have to pay full price for it, which is like $15-$18. 3) When you order multiple CD's, you have to pay a couple dollars shipping on EACH CD. When I signed up for it, it was 11 CD's for the price of 1. At signup, you picked 7 CD's "free". The shipping on these CD's ended up totalling about $17. You then have to buy one at normal price, then you get the other four "free". As long as you're not looking for underground/indie stuff and you can deal with sending the form back every month, then it's highly recommended. I've never been with Columbia House because it didn't interest me. I think you have to buy 4 CD's within 2 years.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 23, 2002 What I want to know is if anyone has ever had a BMG/Columbia House collection agency actually come after them.
Guest DooGieHowie Report post Posted March 23, 2002 I Have but i got away with it....when they had that mail strike in canada i used it as my excuse to get them off my case....sent them a letter saying it must have got lost...never heard from them again....hahaha
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 I've gotten letters from them too (when I used to pull that scam shit as a teenager), but I was wondering if someone got an actual visit from an agency. I always pictured armed men in black, wearing sunglasses knocking on your door, ready to beat your ass if you didn't cough up the $17.99 for that Slayer CD. Guest starvenger Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Never got the agency, just several letters about past due and stuff from Columbia House. BMG tried to charge me twice for my subscription, and I ended up having to pay neither, but it took about 6 months to get the whole thing cleared up. Since the Napster revolution I've lost the desire to join a CD club and if I really want a CD I'll go to Future Shop and buy it.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Why join a club featuring music of bands I don't listen to (with some exceptions, ie. Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, PM5K, etc.) when I can easily go to one of the dozen or so Newbury Comics locations within an hour-long drive's worth of a radius (if that makes any sense, which it should...MEANING that I can find a Newbury Comics in any direction within an hour's worth of a drive), where I can buy new and used CDs of mainstream and underground bands for only $10 American? And you have to wait 2 or 3 months to get newer stuff in. . BMG carries Metal Blade releases so you can get bands like Six Feet Under and King Diamond/Mercyful Fate. Guest swan Report post Posted March 25, 2002 What I want to know is if anyone has ever had a BMG/Columbia House collection agency actually come after them. My neighbor did but he was under the age of 18 and his dad was a lawyer so the whole people under the age of 18 can't enter a contract situation thing came into play. One letter and it was cleared. This was with Columbia House.
