Bored Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 There will be a press conference tonight where he will be introduced as coach. Guess he does give a shit about the North Carolina job.
Guest Choken One Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Damn...Great Job Williams...Now enjoy your own hell you've created for yourself...
Guest phoenixrising Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Oh I want to see this. I want to see his reaction when he gets confronted with that. On the other hand, maybe he just made up his mind after the controversy with the AD - Kansas's AD was fired and the AD came out and blamed Williams, Williams said he had nothing to do with it. Maybe he just said to hell with it and decided to go back to NC.
Guest RepoMan Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 I thought Roy Willams was great when he told off CBS, but now I've lost any respect I ever had for him. I hope UNC continues to suck.
HurriShane Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Is Kansas going to hire from inside or are they going to go after a big name coach?
Guest Choken One Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Big Name Coach Likely...They won't learn from other teams... Maybe Lavin would work...
Guest swan Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Is Kansas going to hire from inside or are they going to go after a big name coach? Word around these parts (Illinois) is that Illini head coach Bill Self could be up for the job. All of his personal and professional experience is in that part of the country. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University. Self was an assistant coach at Kansas in 1986; an assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 1987-93; head coach at Oral Roberts from 1994-97; and head coach at Tulsa from 1998-2000. He's been at Illinois the last three seasons. Rumor has it, if Self leaves, Marquette coach Tom Crean might be a possibility. His stock will never be higher, having taken the Marquette to the Final Four . He can recruit the Chicago area, having recruited soon-to-go-pro Dwyane Wade from Oak Lawn Richards a few years back. I hope this doesn't happen. Self has a great future with some good returning players and a stud recruiting class (if power forward Charlie Villanueva doesn't go pro) on the way.
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Why would you lose respect for Williams for going back to his alma mater? Every coach wants to coach at their alma mater. Jesus. Some people....
Guest Choken One Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 I think he meant because Williams said "I Could give a shit about UNC" and he must be thinking that Money Was what sold him... UNC was the ONLY job he would consider...
Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Yet another coach bails on his team. I hope Roy Williams continues to choke like he has every year. Same goes for Bill Self or whoever leaves their school for Kansas.
Guest DerangedHermit Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Best headline I've seen on this: Williams Turns Heel, Leaves Kansas
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Well, the only reason he said he could give a shit about Carolina was because of that ONE moment in time, when he was more worried about his guys and how upset they are after losing the national championship game. I can see the hate for Williams, but I think this is a good move, and a smart move. It's also a move I would have made if I were in his situation. Period.
Guest swan Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Yet another coach bails on his team. I hope Roy Williams continues to choke like he has every year. Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 What about the recruits coming into Kansas next season. Did Williams tell them, if North Carolina offers me a job I'm leaving. Of course not. I don't like when coaches lie to their players.
Guest MrRant Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Did he know the job was coming? What if a NBA coach was fired at the end of the season and offered him the job? Should he say no because he has recruits coming in?

Of course not. I don't like when coaches lie to their players. How was he to know the coach was going to leave early. Everything would of been speculation at best. He took his dream job. No big deal. Hell if my boss left he doesn't owe it to me to tell me ahead of time if he has the chance to go to company X he'll go.
HurriShane Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Wouldn't it be something if Kansas went out and hired Matt Doherty.
Guest El Satanico Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Wouldn't it be something if Kansas went out and hired Matt Doherty. uh...no. Who cares if two schools in different Conferences have a "rivalry", they wouldn't even play each other every year.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 I can't wait for next season... - Roy Williams - Felton & McCants returning - May will be %100 for sure
Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 How was he to know the coach was going to leave early. Everything would of been speculation at best. He took his dream job. No big deal. Hell if my boss left he doesn't owe it to me to tell me ahead of time if he has the chance to go to company X he'll go. I don't like college coaches. I think most are out for personal gain and they manipulate kids and schools.
