The poll is pretty simple.

After playing NBA Live 2003 on PC for about a month (and a half), I have noticed that each game format is the same fucking thing. Your team leds the 1st quarter, second quarter everyone missed their shots (dunks, lay-ups, etc.), 3rd quarter is back and forth, and 4th quarter comes down to the wire. It gets annoying after awhile, and I'm pretty sure that NBA 2K3 is much better than Live.

As for the pro football, well... I like both Madden 2003 and NFL 2K3 (I bought it Saturday for $14.99 for GC). Madden is such a bitch on All-Madden and the computer cheats so fucking much that I want to break my damn PC. I haven't had time to tinker with NFL 2K3 enough to form an opinion about it but from I've played I already know that they have Madden beat in graphics, commentary, and replays. I like each Franchise mode, but for some reason I'm bias to Madden's. I really don't like the play calling in NFL 2K3, but that's just me (and personally there are too many damn zone defensive plays). NFL 2K3 > Madden 2003? Madden 2003 > NFL 2K3? I can't decide, right now.

I love NCAA Football 2003, so I'm not going to bother checking out NCAA Football 2K3 (preduice? yeah).

I really can't decide which is better, so I'll just throw a null vote. I tried to represent both sides well, and not be too bias.

Sega. At least they're not squeamish about upgrading their games for a superior console. *cough*

There was a time when if I was asked this question I'd ask if you were nuts. EA were the kings, but Sega has whipped their ass lately. The NBA games were the first one for me. NBA 2K3 and WSB 2K3 are awesome. I haven't been able to put WSB down for a minute for the last month. They've just totally blown EA out of the water. I also hated the last couple of Maddens. They just still feel like the same game they've put out for years and I'm sick of that game. I moved to NFL Fever for this year which I liked a lot better. But after seeing that WSB 2K3 is so good and the NBA line isn't just a fluke for Sega, I'm pretty sure that this coming season I'll be getting NFL 2K4 instead of Madden or Fever.

Fuck Sega.

Yeah, you heard me.

Fuck Sega.

Their sports games are superior to EA Sports all the way around the horn (at least NFL2k3 is to Madden, IMO) and yet they drop support of their Sports titles for the Gamecube, leaving what looked to be EA as the only company releasing realistic sports games for the gamecube. Midway stepped up and decided to make their "-z" series more realistic, but they won't be worth a crap this year. And it doesnt even address the fact that Sega wouldnt release WSB for the Gamecube, leaving either All Star Baseball or High Heat as the only baseball games on the cube since EA wont put MVP out on the Cube. All Star Baseball sucks terribly again (Acclaim should stop the franchise now, alonng with Quarterback Club..) and HH hasnt even been released yet..

All-Star Baseball actually is decent. What? I said it was decent. Besides, I like saying fuck you to the Commish and build my own team. Usually with rejects from other teams that I actually make into my great super team that beats up everyone. Including the Yanks.

Besides, I prefer it as my choice of Baseball game. Just kidding on that last part.

Seriously though, you shouldn't whine about Sega doing only what's more profitable for them in the long run. Nintendo's not even really a competitor for the PS2 and frankly neither is the Xbox. Note: I'm expecting Xbox to lose the support base sometime here soon as well. Companies, not gamers.

I think it's kinda sad to see that there is no love for a secondary console competitor in the gaming industry. I mean, I don't get what's with all the gaming companies have with the PS2. Then again, I could say the same thing for the gamers as well.

But as an owner of two of the current gen systems, I probably can tell you the reason. As I just bought my second game for the Cube finally (I've owned the Cube since September last year). Whereas my PS2 has about 9 games, and I'm already thinking of buying about 8-10 (if I backtrack for games, I missed picking up that jumps to slightly under 20) more for the PS2, but for Cube, I've just seen like 4 (Metroid, Animal Crossing, SSBM, and Skies of Arcadia) that I want, and a few that, if I'm lucky that I enjoy the rental, I might add to the list.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

I would say Sega with one caveat. Madden kicks NFL 2k3 in the balls, ties it to the bed, and pees in it's mouth. And NFL 2k3 likes it.

But in hockey, basketball and baseball Sega's are better, especially hockey. To EA's credit, they still make Fifa Soccer, which has kicked ass since Super Nintendo. But EA is basically the Microsoft of games. Now that they are the top sellers, they make incredibly lazy games full of bad AI and glitches. Then when you ask if they plan to fix it they say "All problems will be fixed in Shit Game 2, only 60$. Preorder now!"

note 1: High Heat rules all baseball games

note 2: The college games are almost exactly the same as the pro games, for both sports, for both companies.

note 3: I asked a friend of mine with an XBox to tell me some cool games. He said "Halo". I said "And...?". He threw a fork at his XBox.

Its tough to say.

Somehow, EA though will change everything, and make Sega Sports games, not that great anymore.

Remember 989 when they first came out, was equally good as EA during 98 and 99, then just tanked. EA can crush Sega if they want to work.

Actually the only thing EA is still doing half decent is the racing games.

I only play Madden, so I have to vote EA -- at least in the pigskin category.

Me switching teams now would be like a lifelong Democrat voting for Dewey (sp?) in '48...

Sega Sports is better just because I'm HUGE World Series Baseball mark (did the first one fucking rule or what?)

I hate baseball and I don't buy/play baseball games so that doesn't sway me.

Sega! I bought NBA2k2 2 years ago and it is the greatest Basketball game ever! I hate Live, the gameplay is really herky jerky.

As for baseball, I just bought World Series and Im loving it too.

If you're talking about the old Genesis game, then no. The later versions of the game were much better and had better features, even if it was harder to hit.

As for my opinion, I've never found a better hockey series than EA's NHL games, so they get my vote.

Madden stomps NFL2K, and since that is the battle that matters, I had to vote for EA.

EA should stop tinkering with Bonus crap and start to focus on actual gameplay.

And with Football, for both series, there's always seems to be an issue.

EA has those damn penelties everytime you try to get the ball 4 yards past the line of scrimage.

Sega has the weird comeback card in a certain quater, then play near impossible D after half time.

I can't pick one because it's split.

Madden is better than NFL2K3

NHL 2K3 was far superior to NHL 2003

I don't know about the basketball...but I do know that neither make my favorite baseball game (High Heat)

Here's how I see it.

Madden vs. NFL 2K: I like both for different reasons, and they're both very good at what they do. Push.

NBA Live vs. NBA 2K: I'm not the biggest basketball fan around, but Sega's game plays as a much better sim than Live. Sega.

NHL vs. NHL 2K: Again, both good games, but I don't think Sega has yet caught up to EA with this sport. Maybe this coming season, they will. EA.

Triple Play/MVP Baseball vs. World Series Baseball: This is where Sega 0wns EA, and EA has to take it like a bitch and like it. WSB is an incredible game and an excellent sim. I think last year's version was actually a little better than this year's (the power swing makes it too easy to homer, IMO), but the series is still worlds better than EA's. Sega, in a landslide.

Adding it all up, I have to give the nod to Sega. Their games make better sims for people who value that level of accuracy, while EA's games have a more arcade feel, and are easier to just pick up and play. I'm a sports geek, so I prefer the good sims, but YMMV.

I voted for Sega. While I'm not nearly as big of a sports gamer as I used to be, I'm still into the b-ball scene, and Sega and VC own EA in that area.

Plus, Sega has the Virtua Tennis/Sega Sports Tennis series, which is damn fine (despite the shoddy PS2 port).

If you have X-Box, and Live...2K Series is way better.

Few gripes on Sega though is that there is some delay for the action (especially trying to throw the ball or clear the zone).

And on NHL, deeks...one deek.

I wasn't happy with NHL 2003. I heard NHL 2001 allows for all kinds of cool expansions and realignment deals, so theoretically I could go back to Smythe-Norris-Adams-Patrick and reform the league the way I would've wanted it back in the last expansion era. Can someone confirm this for me?

Yeah, because GOD KNOWS, SEGA HAS BEEN SUPPORTING NINTENDO CONSOLES FOR YEARS. Where will we go now that this alliance between Sega and Nintendo, which is as old as video games itself, is broken?

........

Although things are different now, you know better than to buy a Nintendo console for Sega games. *thunk*
