Guest Midnight Express83 Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 The "bling bling" bullshit as you call it is all but dead. You don't have the ice videos anymore. That was 99 until 2001. 9/11 changed music.
Guest razazteca Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Most rap fans are 15 to 30 year old white males Young girls like the Thug rappers like Ja Rule, Nelly and the rappers who wear sport jerseys.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I still don't understand how people assume that rap as a whole is all "gangsta" rap. Especially in 2003.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I still don't understand how people assume that rap as a whole is all "gangsta" rap. Especially in 2003. Because rap as a whole has pretty much done jack and shit to disprove that
Guest My Eyebrow is on fire Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I wish people wouldn't write about what they know nothing about. Here are the facts - without bias - as pertaining to the East/West feud. - It's been going on since rap was created. It may have it's roots in the claim to who invented break dancing. West coast people swear it started with west coasters "Pop locking," and the east claims the opposite that it started dancing on cardboard to "breaks." - The west coast ALWAYS had some rap acts before Death Row, or NWA - but nobody ever knew because east coast stations would never acknowledge their songs. Dr. Dre had a LOT of hits (including the "Cabbage Patch") when he used to dress and dance like Prince (oh yes, it's true) before NWA. The east coast never played any of it - while west coast clubs and radios always played the freshest tracks from both coasts. There's a LOT of animosity there. - Black people are not all the same. They have different cultures on opposite coasts. Just like Africans don't get a long with African Americans, and Puerto Ricans don't get along with mexicans - west coast and east coast blacks have 2 totally different cultures. On the east, there really isn't any gang warfare. You set up shop in a building and sell your drugs - you don't really need protection besides a few friends. Out west, if you try to sell drugs without gang backing - you'll get robbed and shot at daily. Every block has it's own subdivision or crips and bloods out west - and loyalty and coming up through the ranks is admired. We really don't have anything like it out east. Out west, judging by how much "work" you put in (people you killed, people you robbed, drugs you sold) - you have a ranking...Young Gangsta (YG), Baby Gangsta (BG), G, and Original Gangsta (OG). Young gangstas and baby gangstas do all the work, G's usually let the stupid kids do their bidding, and OG's are usually doing life sentences. West coast cats have jheri curls, and wear shower caps still as a fashion. East coast cats always had the gumby box cuts for years. I'm just saying - there's natural rivalry. - Once the music really started gaining popularity, west coast gang culture was the main focus of it's songs - whereas out east you had mostly guys rapping about "Science" and "Metaphors." East coast rappers would say "THem west coast cats are primitive, they can't rap. They're country. It's all about killing." West coast cats were always like "Those east coast busters are pussies, all they rap about is dancing and skills." Then in 1995 - the shit hit the fan because nobody from the west coast besides Death Row Records was getting airplay out east - there was a boycott of sorts and people were getting frustrated. Tupac Shakur had basically been an afro-centric east coast hip hopper up until that point. He had recorded an album called "Hellrazor" using east coast producers - and was shot 5 times. He went to jail for sexual assault (convicted of grabbing a woman's ass, not rape as some believe) and found out through the grapevine that King Tut, mob boss and funder of Bad Boy Records (which was basically around to wash his money, and nothing more) had Tupac shot for a) Not signing to Bad Boy Records when told to do so, and b) Opening his mouth and telling information in radio interviews he should not have. Puffy and Biggie were Tupac's friends, and knew the hit was coming - but they didn't warn him. Tupac was more angry at Puffy, Biggie, and his producer Stretch for not warning him of the shooting. People think Biggie had 2pac shot - but it was King Tut. It just so happened after Tupac aligned with Suge Knight that King Tut was murdered execution style immediately afterwards along with Stretch - the only people left to "beef" with left alive were Puffy and Biggie. Anyway - Tupac, to rally the masses - cancelled his "Hellrazor" album while in jail - and replaced it with tracks only producer by west coast producers and called it "Me Against The World" - then he got out, signed with Suge Knight, and said he would use his fame and prestige to make the west coast get it's props finally. Tupac basically started the whole thing - he denied he was starting shit with the east coast but that was a lie - he was giving the west coast sign with his hands saying that all the rappers in New York were bullshit like Jay-z, Biggie, Nas, and the Fugees. It was the age old trick of "Let me get everyone mad at my enemies and I'll look like the good guy." Eventually Biggie got tired of it - and said that The Dogg Pound shouldn't be allowed to shoot their video in New York City over the radio during the video shoot - about an hour later somebody tried to kill Snoop Dogg and the Dogg Pound in their trailor. Then the Dogg Pound released the video kicking over buildings in New York. Tupac died from a gang related shooting because he had a big mouth and not enough protection. At the time he was claiming M.O.B. damu rider BLOOD - and was shot by the southside crips. It had nothing to do with east or west. Biggie died a few months later because he was stupid as shit for thinking he could come to Los Angeles and people would welcome him. They filled his limo up with bullet holes in revenge for Tupac's death - plain and simple. East and west beef still goes on to this day - with the east coast controlling things as usual. Nobody from the west coast is allowed to have any radio play except for whoever is signed with Jimmy Iovine at Interscope (Dr. Dre). Even snoop doesn't get much radio play anymore - it's only his affiliation with Dr. Dre which keeps his albums from totally flopping. It's actually getting a lot worse now because this "Hizzle for shizzle" talk all comes from Oakland pig latin drug dealers would use to avoid talking about drugs on the phone. Jay-z took it, made it famous, and never gave the west coast credit for it. Jay-z took Tupac's classic anthem about his gun "My Girlfriend" - and made some typical east coast pop song about fucking a girl. It all comes from jealousy and eventually it'll come to a head again one day.
Guest El Satanico Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I've been wondering ever since he was killed and I never heard about who did it or why. Was Jam Master Jay or Run-DMC for that matter involved with any of this shit directly or indirectly or was he shot over something else? I'd be shocked if they were involved, but I don't remember hearing any news on why he was shot.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. A "fued" that started in 1995 came from shit in 1980s. Right, sure, I believe you.

I'd be shocked if they were involved, but I don't remember hearing any news on why he was shot. Jam Master Jay was a bitch who got fucked in his record deal - a bunch of gold albums and singles he didn't make more than $15,000. He was hustling (selling drugs) and just got caught up in it. Had nothing to do with east or west. 50 Cent is probably going to be the next rapper killed. His album is full of "dry snitching" (revealing unsolved crimes, running your mouth) real people. 50 cent mentions drug dealers in New York that the normal person would never hear by NAME - I'm really surprised he's still walking around. I'm just saying this because 50 Cent was doing what Jam Master Jay was doing before he got killed. 50 just got lucky and had a few hits before he suffered the same fate.

If you go to the impoverished areas of Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, or Northern or Southern California - the consensus is that "NIggas from the east coast is pussies." You think this was born all of a sudden out of thin air in the spring of 1995 because of a loud mouthed black panther?

I give them more credit than that
Guest My Eyebrow is on fire Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 So, it's kind of like the Mafia, only stupider. There are black mafia syndicates - they just switch leadership every goddamn 2 months because they either kill eachother or they snitch eachother out. "Niggas and flies, always in some shit."

They don't kill eachother over it today - but it's a legit theory that that's where it all started.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Okay, for my purposes, anytime I discuss it, we're going to pretend that one of them killed the other's wife, just to make it seem less petty and idiotic

Yea, 50 is a snitch, he basically told on the hierarchy in "Ghetto Qu'ran" and also in his interviews where he talks about how Ja Rule and Irv Gotti are getting extorted by Preme (which is true). I think he won't make it by the end of the year. JMJ was dealing dope but he didn't know what he was doing thats how he got killed. I suprised that Daz is still around, since he stole 400,000 dollars from Suge and he is bragging about it too.
Guest Still Fly Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Eyebrow, you should write for Hollywood because that is a good plot for a movie. Im pretty sure that people in New York and LA are so imbroiled with rap music they would go out of there way to hate each other over a song. I mean I live in Los Angeles and I aint thinking about people in New York and that goes for the other side too. I mean people are that stupid you know. Also I wish people wouldnt glorify gang culture. I lost a cousin due to mistaken idenity because of stupid colors. There is nothing cool about gangs, its a huge problem here and im sure there are in the town you live in.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 You know, wars start over the smallest things all the time. Domino, snowball, whatever you want to call it, that's what it is. Hip hop is a culture though... if that's not where you come from, you won't ever 'get' rap music. That doesn't make you stupid, but if you dismiss it or condemn it because you don't get it, that does make you stupid.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 How about you listen to actual mc's who can bring something to the table besides hype. 50 Cent is hype. All of the stuff you are talking about his hype. Tupac and Biggie were talented; Dre is talented, Em is talented, NAS is talented. The rest is garbage. Expand your horizons, check out the really good mc's who don't need to be into these ridiculous beefs - Kweli, Common, Black Thought, Mighty Mos Def, J5, Aceyalone, and others

I think Pac was an average MC, I think BIG was average to above average. Nas is above average. Eminem is superb but he's so obviously a pussy in real life that it's hard to suspend disbelief when I listen to his tough guy songs. I'd rather listen to bums like the Lox talk about killing people and selling drugs than listen to Talib Kwali, an illiterate uneducated kufi wearing dipshit, mumble about Babylon, star fruit and "Afrika."

Guest Anglesault Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 What is an MC? Everytime I hear that, my brain automatically goes "Master of Ceremonies" (Like at an awards dinner or something) so it makes less sense then it normally would to me.

Everytime I hear that, my brain automatically goes "Master of Ceremonies" (Like at an awards dinner or something) so it makes less sense then it normally would to me. It still means "Master of Ceremonies" - but it just refers to someone who does spoken word in time with an instrumental --- a "rapper." Rapper=MC

Guest lomasmoney Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I have some "inside" information on the murders of both tupac and notorious big. MY uncle lived out in inglewood california for about 20 years and he worked with suge knight's father. They became pretty close friends and he would always go out to like boxing matches and laker games with suge knight's dad. From what my uncle told me, it was suge knight himself who arranged for the murder of both tupac and biggie. The reason why tupac was murdered was simple. Tupac wanted out of his death row contract, and he was a paranoid, loudmouth cocaine user. While it would seem stupid for suge to put himself in the line of fire, you must rememeber that suge was only grazed by a bullet while tupac was hit with the other bullets. It was suge who also told tupac to take off his bulletproof vest. With biggie's murder, Suge set that up as well. He had david mack, a crooked police officer for lapd and a member of the bloods gang( suge's gang) and another guy kill biggie. The officer who investigated the wallace murder, russell poole, concluded that mack should at least be considered a suspect since many of the clues pointed back to him. He owned the exact same car that was seen shooting into biggie's suburban, he had the same ammunition in his home, he had ties to suge knight and his best friend reselmbed the sketch of biggie's shooter. The LAPD didnt want to investigate because mack was a police officer, and poole resigned because of it. Mack is in jail anyway after he was convicted of bank robbery. Its sad because mack is thought of to be one of the greatest 800m runners in US high school history but he got caught up in the street life instead of being a great olympian
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I ain't trusting your uncle. I know uncles who swear up and down they toured with KISS and they ate babies and it really means Knights In Satan's Service. Bullmuthafuckinsheeeit.
Guest My Eyebrow is on fire Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 that's a load. I never heard of a nigga arranging a hit on someone who would be sitting directly next to him. Suge got shot IN THE HEAD
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Yeah I agree. It COULD happen...if the shooters were really accurate, but that's a big risk on Suge's part. I dunno...
Guest ant_7000 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Thats alot thou, Suge risking himself to get Pac killed is still hard for me to believe thou. But, I thought of this scenario before, but I always thought why would Suge risk himself like that? Even if he got grazed/sratched in the head. I knew Pac wanted out because he fired Suge's lawyer who was his agent. So it does make sense thou. Biggie's death is definitely by the hands of Suge, but that was on Biggie cause he knew Suge doesn't like Puff, and (Suge hates anyone who associate themselves with his enemies) and the streets think he had something to do with Pac's death, so why come out to Cali?
