Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Hey don't you guys think that if the Bengals don't take Palmer, that someone will jump up to get the #3 pick from the Texans to get him? I heard Casserly would love to trade to get more picks. No chance Palmer is falling to #7. Either Cincinnati drats him, or like you said someone would trade up. Live Via the tv phone let's go to the Vikings War Room Boomer: VG Congratulations on the draft so far. VG:Thanks Boomer Boomer:Carson Palmer. Did you ever imagine in a million years he'd fall to number 7? VG:(laughs) Not at all Boomer:When you knew you could get Palmer, is that when you starting calling teams about Daunte. VG:That was the first we had called another team reguarding Daunte. Boomer:So you had received quaries from teams in the past? VG:Yes Boomer:Was, Carolina one of the teams. VG:Yes, But at this point I'd prefer not to go into any further. Boomer:We all know Randy Moss was close friends with Daunte, what was is reaction and what was Daunte's reaction. VG:We just got off the phone with Randy, and has expected it was a shock, but he's very exited about the trade and expects Palmer to be a franchise QB. Coach Tice talked with Daunte briefly, he was upset and suprise, but exited about a new opportunity and he's happy he's playing much closer to home. Boomer:In the short time we had, thoughts on Jimmy Kennedy. VG:A talented young man, we had him ranked in the Top 5. We feel with Jimmy and Chris inside, the Vikings have one of the best interior Line duos in the NFL. Boomer:Any talk of moving Kennedy? VG:Boomer at this point in time, all I can say is where still receiving trade proposals. Boomer:Alright, VG thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule. VG:No problem at all Boomer, and thank you.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 21, 2003 While the injuries inflicted in the shooting are not life-threatening, and Weathersby is expected to be released from the hospital by Wednesday, it could be 6-8 weeks until the cornerback is cleared to resume any football-related activities. The fact he will probably miss rookie orientation as well as a mini-camp might drop him from his consensus second-round status. The positive news, on a relative basis, is that Weathersby will not require surgery for any of his injuries. Weathersby was shot in the back, below the lungs, with the bullet passing through his torso, and entering his forearm. Contrary to an earlier report by ESPN.com, the bullet did not exit his arm, is still lodged there, but will not be removed. Teams that were considering Weathersby in the weekend draft, certainly will want a detailed analysis of his physical condition. "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I feel fine," Weathersby said. "I'm lucky. The Lord has a reason for everything and this must be a part of his plan for me." Weathersby was said to be climbing into a car with what spokesman Steve Caric called "a casual acquaintance," and on his way to the airport to pick up a friend who was flying in to join him for draft festivities, at the time of the attack. Police in Los Angeles are investigating the incident and hope, at some point on Monday, to have a better understanding of exactly what transpired. The attack occurred in an area where gang activity is said to be high. Deputy Harry Drucker of the Los Angeles Police, said the incident is being treated as gang-related, but Weathersby's agent, Gary Uberstine said his client has not been involved in gang activities. "It is being investigated as a gang incident. There is a gang presence in the area and a rivalry there,'' Drucker told The AP on Monday. Two league teams contacted by ESPN.com said they had no reports of past gang activity by the player, who was an academic All-American at Oregon State. There have been no arrests yet in the incident. Last week, in an interview with ESPN.com, Weathersby spoke at length about the tough neighborhood in which he was raised. Some teams felt that Weathersby had an attitude problem, and the corner explained might be in part a function of his boyhood environment. "Maybe it's because of my upbringing or something," Weathersby said. "I'm just not close to a lot of people. I pretty much keep to myself. It's still hard for me to trust people real easily. So maybe some teams see that as a problem. I'm just not the kind of person who opens up quickly, that's all." Weathersby, 22, was a four-year starter at Oregon State, appearing in 48 games, and had five interceptions and 56 passes defensed in his career. He was regarded by most teams as a likely second-round choice, but a few clubs had him rated a first-round possibility. "First and foremost, we are relieved that Dennis is OK," Uberstine said. "This is a tragic event and our thoughts and prayers are obviously with Dennis and his family. From a football standpoint, this will not jeopardize his career in any way. After speaking with his doctors, we are expecting a complete and speedy recovery." http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/columni...nist?id=1541930
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Is EL DANDY's time up yet? And I would be open to sticking around for a round 2. If there are only a few people who want to I think it would be easier to set a time and all be there, otherwise this would be forever.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Yeah, I think his time is up. We should wait until bravesfan gets here though.
Bored 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Okay someone doing research at ESPN needs to be fired because how could they screw this fact up. They showed a list of players who were the overall #1 pick who went on to win MVP and they listed...JOE MONTANA!? Who doesn't know that Montana was a 3rd Round pick? Jeez maybe I should apply for a job there if they mess up simple facts like that. Oh and yes its time to make the 13th pick, no more Easter excuse. Jets have a huge need at linebacker so I'd pick one there.
Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I say give the Jets OLB Boss Bailey(Georgia) which is who they got in my mock draft(I'm just starting my 3rd round and damn is it a pain)
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I went to Boston for the day and I'm STILL waiting? Nuts to this, I'm picking in 10 minutes.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Sounds fair At no.13 the Jets pick Boss Bailey LB. I don't think we need to worry about Bravesfan being here if someone runs out of the 12 hour window then the next person to come in the thread pick for them regardless of who is here. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted April 21, 2003 Hell, I PMed my pick to bravesfan last night so I wouldn't hold everything up. With that said, with the 14th pick in the TSM Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select Johnathan Sullivan, DT - Georgia Johnathan Sullivan DT | (6-3, 313, 5.04) | GEORGIA By Pro Football Weekly Notes: Went to Griffin High School in Georgia and was an honorable mention for the USA Today All-USA team. Attended Hargrave Military Academy prep school, where he had 43 tackles and 11 sacks and played some tight end. Played in 10 regular season games as a true freshman in 2000 and had 34 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. In '01, he had 46-8-4 and three interceptions splitting time at defensive tackle and defensive end because of injuries. Played 11 games and started 10, including a two-sack game vs. Houston. Associated Press first-team All-Southeastern Conference in '02, second-team All-SEC by the coaches. Had two 10-tackle games (Florida, Auburn) as a junior, when he totaled 74-15½-4. Positives: Has very good athletic ability and good to good-plus size, strength and quickness. Anticipates well and flows to the ball. Can key and diagnose and has innate recognition skills. Doesn't lose much changing directions and maintains a good pad level. When playing his best, will create havoc in the backfield, play with leverage and flashes pass-rush skills. Is persistent and plays until the whistle blows on every down. Negatives: Can be slow off the ball and lose leverage. Needs to develop counter moves. Has below-average feet and will miss tackles, especially in space. Summary: A 60-minute player whose greatest strength might be his consistency. That is likely enough to get Sullivan drafted in the first round. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He's persistent, athletic and smart, fits perfectly with Belichick's system. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I did the same thing with my Carolina pick. When the no.6 pick was up I PMed my top 4 choices for the next pick so it could be pounded right out.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 At least a good chunk of the people left to pick are people who are here a lot, so maybe the second half of the round will go faster than a week.

Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I want BPS to run the real NFL draft. I can picture the Bengals starting to take more than five minutes. "Get on the god damn phone to Mike Brown and make your freaking pick!!!"
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted April 21, 2003 I wouldn't let the Bengals pick. It would be for there own good. I heard on Sportscenter that the Bengals said they were definitely taking Palmer as long as they could reach at least a verbal agreement.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 21, 2003 And they'll still take the whole 15 minutes

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Eric Steinbach OG | (6-6, 297, 4.93) | IOWA By Pro Football Weekly Notes: Was a four-sport athlete in high school and had 22 catches and 26 sacks in 1997 as a two-way end. Redshirted as a tight end in '98. Moved to offensive guard during the '99 season and started the final four games. Started the three games he was healthy for in 2000 and the eight games he was healthy for in '01. Missed the second game that season with an ankle injury and hardly played after dislocating his left elbow vs. Northwestern in the ninth game of the year. Started every game last fall and was an Associated Press first-team All-American, AFCA All-American, first-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. Positives: Has top athletic ability. Quick and explosive with quick reactions to movement with hands and body. Has great body snap. Very strong and maintains a solid base while playing square to line of scrimmage. Gets good fits, adjusts on the move and is a fighter. Explosive hand punch and good use of hands. Grabs and locks on. Uses quick feet to shuffle and slide. Has toughness and works to finish his blocks. Showed NFL scouts that he has the feet and athleticism to play tackle at the next level. Negatives: Doesn't always bend and can lose leverage. Has not completely grasped the mental aspect of the game. Bulk leads him to be projected as an NFL guard, as do his narrow hips and lack of a big BUTT. Is a little stiff in the upper body and doesn't recover well. Has had a lot of injury problems. Summary: Steinbach must show he can stay healthy and do a better job of translating his athleticism and weight-room numbers to the field. If he does that, he could become a top NFL guard or tackle. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted April 22, 2003 *Back inside the Buffalo Bills War Room* There are still seven more players to come off the board but we have our eyes on some players that should still be available. One of our big needs was just taken care of with the free agent signing of Olandis Gary to be our back-up running back. We weren't targeting a Running Back as we wanted someone with experience to play back up, but it is one less hole. As it stands right now the best player left on our board isn't at a position of top need...but we expect him to be gone before out pick arrives. There is no one on our board who we feel is important enough to attempt to trade up for...and at this point our board is not deep enough to consider a move down. We hope to pick sometime today (Tuesday) but people are really friggin slow. *this ends today's look inside the Buffalo Bills War Room*

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted April 22, 2003 With the 16th pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select DE Jerome McDougle from the University of Miami.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Jerome Mcdougle DE | (6-2, 264, 4.65) | MIAMI (FLA.) By Pro Football Weekly Notes: Younger brother of former Oklahoma All-America offensive tackle and Lions first-round pick Stockar McDougle. Attended Pittsburgh (Kan.) State in 1998 but did not play football. Played at Hinds Junior College (Miss.) in '99 and then came to Miami (Fla.) in the summer of 2000 and redshirted in the fall. Started every game in '01 and had 59 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown. Won All-Big East Conference honors. Missed the opener in '02 vs. Florida A&M with a torn pectoral muscle. Played in the next 11 games and the Fiesta Bowl and recorded 53-13½-7. Positives: A very good athlete, McDougle has a quick first step, a burst to get by and close on the quarterback and excellent pass-rush potential. Loves to drop inner leg and power through, even against double-team. He uses his hands and arms well, can flatten and come back underneath, plays with leverage vs. the run and can use either power or speed to slip or shed the blocker. Has Hugh Douglas-type explosion. Negatives: Doesn't have great size or work habits and is probably more compact than most teams would like. His technique, ball awareness and recognition have improved, but he still could use an upgrade. Needs to vary his attack against better offensive tackles who can handle him. Is far less effective vs. the run. Summary: Can do everything you want him to off the edge, but lacks the great size of a prototypical every-down defensive end. A team will draft him hoping he is a super-Dwight Freeney type.
