Happy Tax Deadline Day!!

Recommended Posts

Anyone have an exceptionally bad time doing their taxes in their life? Been audited?

For the first time in a couple of years I haven't owed anything.

I know this thread is rather random, but I was bored.

Plus I guess this doesn't apply to our non-American posters.

Last year, I paid.

This year, I was hoping for a substantial return so as to possibly start saving for a new car. $350 is a start, but not much.

I owe my city, which I live in and work in TWO months of the year 35 bucks. The amount is small, but paying sucks. And 35 bucks is a lot of beer, especially since I drink Natural Light!

Local - owe nothing, get nothing back

State - pay $11

Federal - refund of $960

I'm getting $300 back. The check should arrive any day now, which is great, as my car's air conditioner isn't working, AND the windows won't roll down.

I live in Florida, you know.

I'd rather pay in a little then get a refund back. Uncle Sam doesn't pay me interest like my bank does.

I got back $300 this year.

I get money back every year. This year, I'm getting back close to $1600 between federal and state. There was one time I owed state taxes, to the tune of $6, and I was FURIOUS. It wasn't the amount of money, just the principle: you didn't take enough taxes out, and it's MY fault? Bah. Other than that one year with state (which was made up for with an $1100 federal return), I've always gotten refunds from both.

I didn't file because I only worked part time for less than 2 months last year, and the most I would have gotten back was like 2 bucks ;)

^_^ I got my return in February, but I wish I would have waited because I could sure use the money now!

My AC broke last July, and I still have 4-55 Air Conditioning.

Laziness I say.

I'm getting back $200 and owed $19 on state taxes (first time ever I owed) despite working 2 jobs for 4 months out of last year and working full time for another 4....Bah.

It all depends on what you claim for your W-2. Since I still live with my mom, I claim 0 but once I move out I think I'll probably claim 1.

Filed for an extension like I do every year (this year I did it by phone & online). But I expect ~$1500 for my federal refund, and ~$300 for state.

I did my on taxes this year, which I'll never do again. I used one of those tax software programs, but made a couple of mistakes. I claimed myself as my own dependent, and didn't record my capital gain on some stock I sold. I didn't realize it till my mom had her taxes done and asked If I claimed myself as a dependent, which is what I did. With the mistakes I would have gotten $525 from federal and $148 from state. Ended up having to file an amendment and paying back around $457 total.
