House of 1000 Corpses

Yeah, that's pretty sad now that you mentioned it, Le. Scream scared me more then House.

It's hard for me to seriously consider the opinions of supposed "horror fans" who dislike House of 1000 Corpses because it wasn't scary by saying Scream was. You have to be a total girly man to find Scream scary. Come on. It was a teen flick with some violence.

I, on purpose avoided all threads, reviews, previews, or opinions of this movie until I had a chance to see it. So I could view it with an open mind as a horror buff. And after watching it a second and third time I got to say it was great. Scream wasn't scary to me at all. 1000, wasn't scary in a conventional sense, like "BOO" scary. It was more like, "Holy fuck. Is this really happening!?" scary. And for a first time effort, I think Rob did a great job.

C.H.U.D, you have been dead on with every post in this thread. We should tlak horror flick sometimes.

Since my short term memory is shot and I'm too lazy to go back and read the thread, what is it that you found so "incredibly stupid"?

(Not baiting just wondering)

The Characters were so unappealing that, while I wanted them all to die, when they did die I felt my time was wasted since I never really cared in the first place. I really got tired of the whole "photo negative" look and the random pictures being put on screen. It all seemed to be artsy or some crap. It was just so scatterbrained and weird.

I see what you are saying, but I saw it as the "photo negative" look was giving you a bit of info in to the character or situation in which this "photo negative" clip was being shown. In all honesty I see the artsy thing, but it reminded me of Natural Born Killers. And it is in my top 10.

First of all, my Scream reference wasn't meant as a compliment to Scream. It was meant as yet another put down for Corpses. I could also say falling down the stairs and breaking my ankle a couple of months ago was better than Corpses and it's still saying the same thing.

But, you know, yes I'll say with all seriousness that I think Scream is a better movie. It wasn't "scary" in that sense of the term. Like you said, what's scary after your 13? But, it had suspense. It had mystery to it. I didn't know which character was going to die next, I didn't know how it would happen. When things happened, it was a surprise. The best horror movies are always built on suspense, not gore or shocking imagery. Scream had some suspenseful moments in it, Corpses had ZERO. There was never a point where you didn't know what was coming. You never wondered what was around the corner, you always saw it coming a million miles away.

I thought that same thing until the ending. That completely caught me off guard and yes, it even scared me a tad.

I can't think of enough bad things to say about this movie.

Why did Rob choose to leave nothing to the imagination? Everytime a character would say something that might get your mind working, it'd cut to a home movie style cut scene of it. That good looking girls laugh was horrible. If you've seen it, that part where it takes forever (you know what im talking about) could have been great if it were really bloody and loud. Instead it looked like smoke was coming out. This movie was pure garbage, not for one minute did you care what happened to the 4 college kids. There was no explaining why the family was doing this. Rob is a crap director, he thinks by showing random things, that it will be different and shocking. Overused negative effect, and that damn webcam quality picture at times made me want to burn the screen down. I could go on forever.

The only thing I did like was the Spaulding character, and the rain scene when they were trying to leave, that was cool for a little while.

Oh and that shot where she was looking scared and the guy was behind her was lame looking.

The only thing that scared me about Corpeses is the fact that it actually was released. I would accpet the film a lot more had it not been for the ending sequence. Right when it began, I just threw up my hands and said "well, this just 100% finally went to shit". It's like they forgot what film they WERE making, I don't know.

Just bad film making overall, with very few highpoints.

I thought the ending was the most predictable part.

The saddest part is even with the bad plot and story, it could have been watchable with a good director.

I agree that Corpses was predictable in most ways, since it borrowed heavilly from so many other films, but that didn't bother me. But there is no way in hell you could have predicted that fucked up doctor's office with Dr. Satan being some kind of cyborg creature and that giant cyborg mutant thing with the axe. That was totally out of left field.

Wasn't the thing with the gas mask the dad that set fire to the house?

I am glad this was brought up.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I thought that the "guy" chasing the chick through the catacombs was one of Dr. Satan's creations. But a buddy of mine who saw it, (And for the record loved it!) brought up the whole dad angle. I can see what your saying, but after watching it twice I can say I still have no fucking clue either way.

I'll admit, Dr Satan looked pretty cool. But you knew when you saw him he'd be all messed up and everything around him would be, so it wasn't really a shocker.

And what was with the people in the waiting room?

I have no idea what Dr Satan or any of the other bullshit at the end looked like. It was put together so patheticly and used the MTV style editing so much that it gave me a headache. I really have no idea what was going on for the last 20 minutes except that there was a lot of flashing images of Hellraiser like visuals with some broad running around some tunnels. Maybe I just remember it fuzzy in my head because my brain felt sorry for me having to see that idiotic bullshit and tried to block it from my memory.

What a lazy, cop-out response.

Why is it a cop out? It's the truth. There's nothing lazy about it. I can not tell you ANYTHING about what happened at the end of that movie. I have NO IDEA what Dr Satan looked like except that he had some sort of mask and a bunch of wires and tubes or some bullshit. I damn sure don't remember any giant cyborg mutant with an ax. The last 20 minutes was NOTHING but a jumbled mess of uncomprehensible imagery put together by a hack. There's no cop-out there, that's the truth. That's what I saw and it's exactly WHY I hate the movie and it's what I've said since the very start of this discussion in my original review of the movie. All it was was some girl running around, a lot of weird shit flashed on the screen and then she escaped, got in the car and got killed anyway. That's all I saw. It was idiotic and pathetic and ruined the first hour which up until then was VERY enjoyable even with it's problems. That entire ending sequence is one of the biggest wastes of 20 minutes of film I've ever seen in movies. I'd love this movie if it wasn't for the final 20 minutes. But that 20 minutes IS there. If I wanted to see a movie like that I would've watched Feardotcom or one of the last two Hellraiser sequels.

That is you opinion and nothing more. I had no problem following the end of that movie. It all made perfect sense what was going on. If you were even half-way paying attention you'd have seen the "man" chasing her through the catacombs. Now exactly who he was is another thing.

Well I finally saw this movie yesterday and I gotta say it was alright. I didnt go into the movie expecting too much after the bad reviews I heard. I was expecting a shit fest but it came through for me. There were only a few people in there so I didnt have to worry about people bugging the hell out of me talking cuz people talking can totally ruin a movie. Over all the movie was sick and twisted with lots of tits expected from Rob Zombie. Also I have a question about the blonde girl in the movie. Not the mom but the daughter. People have said she is Zombie's sister. Is it true? Or does she have some connection to Rob at all? Thanks.

Rob is a hillbilly of sorts. Sister and fuck buddy might mean the same thing.

I had no problem understanding what happened in the last 20 minutes. The editting was no more flashy or manic during the last 20 minutes than the first 70. You don't remember seeing the mutant cyborg with the ax? You can't recall what anything looked like? Sorry, it sounds like you either don't want to admit it had some originality, the screener you downloaded had shitty picture quality, your monitor is too small or you're a moron. I don't think you're a moron, so it has to be one of the other 3.

Well, it was a DVD quality screener and I watched it on my big screen TV so I saw it pretty good. Like Johnson said....it's MY opinion. Doesn't mean I'm trying to make you agree with it. But personally I didn't see anything original. I just thought it looked like a bunch of imagery ripped off from Clive Barker and none of it really stood out to me to make me want to enough attention to remember every detail.

It dropped off another 40% at the box office and STILL hasn't made a profit. Is it a hit yet?
