Memento vs. following

Recommended Posts

Guest evenflowDDT

Hey, just wondering what the general opinion amongst those who have seen both films is.  Being a fan of Memento, I was blown away by Following, which I just saw last night.

For those who haven't seen it, Following was Christopher Nolan's first film, a predecessor of sorts to Memento.  It concerns a man who follows people to learn about characters for a novel he's writing, only to get pulled into a tricky situation by a burglar who finds him out and invites him to learn even more about people by accompanying him on burglaries.

I'm trying to write a review for that film write now, and its really confusing.  The "inverse" editing isn't as constant or smooth as Memento, so it is much more confusing and I'm still not sure all of what happened (I like Memento, but after all is said and done it only takes a couple viewings of the film to straighten it all out), but in a way its a lot more compelling as well.  The black and white also suits it well.

Anyway, that's me... anybody else seen both films and care to comment?

Your girlfriend's dad is a fucktard.  That movie deserved a best picture nomination and is one of the best movies of the last few years.

I've said it before... the movie doesn't need any nomination or awards to prove how good it was.  And it probably wasn't good enough to win it anyway... but then again, neither was Moulon Rouge.
