Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted April 17, 2003 When he was in ECW he was a fuckin monster putting on ****+ matches with Tanaka and murdering all comers. Then in WCW he was slowly brought down by the booking with the 70s guy gimmick.... but things started looking brighter towards the end of WCW. He gets to the WWE and they treat him like shit and eventually release him. Now he's back in the US in TNA after a tour of Japan... and he looked unbelievably sloppy last night. What happened to the OLD Mike Awesome?

Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted April 17, 2003 His knees are in really bad shape and the WWF has a way of turning quick agile big men into slugs in the ring.
Guest the 1inch punch Report post Posted April 18, 2003 ~Mike Awesome Fanboy Mode On Well, He got buried in WCW for two reasons 1-He really was only hired as a Fuck You to Heyman, no-one actively gave a shit about him 2-Russo decided to bury him because he's related to Hogan, and Vinnie Roo was still in a vindictive mode He got buried in WWE for one reason and one reason only. Paul Heyman
Guest RedJed Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I think its probably an issue of motivation with him..........if he knows the bookers will be behind him and not screw with him, he will get in shape, but if not, why bother? He got pretty fucked around with in WCW and WWF, so I could see him with a pretty bad taste for US wrestling nowadays.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Mike Awesome was god awful after returning from his knee injury. Possibly there are still complications from it.

I don't know where that started but I actually watched Velocity while he was stuck there and he had a match with Tajiri that was better than anything that's been on RAW in... Are you kidding me? He was terribly slow and plodding. Was he good because he could springboard off the ropes? He looked terrible, and extremely unconvincing. Trust me, I was a huge Mike Awesome fan, I was completely awaiting his return. But he couldn't bring the goods, even on Velocity. He was a stumbling oaf. I was actually embarrassed for him. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Bullshit. He was supposed to be slow and plodding in that match because Tajiri worked his injured leg. There are only a handfull of wrestlers in the WWE that would know how to work a match when someone is hurting. They used it to their advantage and told a story. After having his leg destroyed by Tajiri he attempted to power bomb him, sold the leg and couldn't and it cost him the win. That match was far better than anything that Raw has done in months because someone took the time to think about what the fuck they were going to do. You don't have to be fast to have a good match. Guest RedJed Report post Posted April 18, 2003 Keep in mind when he came back from the injury he was begging to get released since he was so miserable working for them, so I wouldn't expect him to bust his ass for a lost cause anyway. He knew he wasnt going to get over there since they limited his moveset to so little that his strengths as a worker couldn't be showcased. Go find his shoot interview, it pretty much explains all of this.

Dude, you are talking about one match. He wrestled Bull Buchanon and others as well....it wasn't in the 'pyschology' of the match.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted April 18, 2003 and you expected him to pull something over DUD against bull f'n buchanan? he's a great wrestler but he's not a miracle worker
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 18, 2003 I read somewhere that Awesome was pretty much in no man's land after getting a concussion about a minute into the match somehow (maybe an awkward punch by Saturn, or landing wrong), and that he collapsed backstage after both of his appearances. So, it can be partially attributed to injury.
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted April 18, 2003 After how that fucker left ECW I don't give a shit how he is used. I was at the Indianapolis show and wanted Taz to keep the Tazmission on that fucker until he was wheeled out in a body bag.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Report post Posted April 18, 2003 and you expected him to pull something over DUD against bull f'n buchanan? he's a great wrestler but he's not a miracle worker No, Buchanon out-performed him. You guys can argue with me all day, I don't care. I was a HUGE Mike Awesome fan, and I was eagerly anticipating his review. I even watched FUCKING Velocity to see his return matches. But he just did not have his shit together in his 2-3 matches. Whether it was because of a concussion, knee, or whatever - he was terrible. There is not any way around it. I did not see the TNA performance, so I can't say anything about it.

He never signed an ECW contract in the first place due to Paul E never paying him for Heat Wave 98, which was almost 2 years before that whole situation happened. I don't see why everyone wanted to see him in TNA. He sucks ass now.

I'll say it again..........he had some matches in All Japan that were classic Awesome stuff in the last few months so it's not like he's lost his workrate. He even had a match with Muta, who has to be totally carried these days, and he made it into something bearable. Again, from his shoot.............he came back early from the injury in those matches on Velocity, so he was still hurting. He knew he needed to get back in the ring ASAP because there is major pressure in WWE in that regard. You cant say he's "changed" completely until you see him in a match that he's at least not injured up still, cmon now.

But possibly...just maybe, he could be making some excuses for his poor performance by saying he was rushed back. Maybe?
