Goldberg on Byte This

Recommended Posts

Guest FeArHaVoC

Hosts: Howard Finkel, Dr. Tom Prichard

Guests: Scotty 2 Hotty, Torrie Wilson, Goldberg

Droz joins the show.

The trio discusses the following storylines:

The friendship between Kliq members Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H

The ultimatum given to Nash by H

The return match between Booker T and Triple H, scheduled for Raw this coming Monday

The Rock Concert 2

The impending arrival of Mr. America

Before departing, Droz plugs his latest WWE.com article, which focuses on the Cruiserweight Division.

Droz leaves the show.

Scotty 2 Hotty joins the show.

Scotty discusses his injury. He says that he has had neck problems for years, but that during a tag team match with Randy Orton last year he felt a shooting pain down his arm after throwing a punch. Once he could no longer handle working through the pain, he opted for neck surgery.

He is looking forward to speaking with Kurt Angle about his recent surgery. He hopes the alternative surgery that Angle chose will work out for him, and hopes that it may be an option for other workers suffering from neck injuries.

He is ready to come back emotionally, but still has about two months until he believes he will be ready physically. He says that the past year has been his worst year professionally, but his best year personally. He has a 14-month old daughter that he has been able to spend time with during his sabbatical.

Caller Vladimir from Jacksonville, FL asks for Scotty’s favorite match from WrestleMania 19. He enjoyed Hogan/McMahon because he felt it was more entertaining than anyone expected it to be.

Howard and Tom ask Scotty about the current product. He enjoys the work being put in by Rock, Hurricane, and Goldust. He is happy for former partner Albert (now A-Train) and he current push. He thinks Nathan Jones is a monster and has potential.

Scotty is looking forward to returning and working with the Cruiserweights again, mentioning Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy by name.

Scotty 2 Hotty leaves the show.

Howard and Tom discuss Ohio Valley Wrestling. The territory has proven to be a good way to train the developmental talent and to help returning veterans work off ring rust. Tom praises the work of Jim Cornette, Danny Davis, and Rip Rogers on how they run the territory.

Tom talks about advising the young talent in OVW that their shot at WWE is a matter of “right place, right time” and that they need to use their time in the territory to develop their skills. Howard and Tom talk about the prolonged stint done in OVW by Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Team Angle before finally coming to WWE.

Video Break: Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia – 04/17 SmackDown

Torrie Wilson joins the show.

Torrie talks about the experience of doing the Playboy photo shoot. She described it as being harder than people think, pointing out having to stay in a particular pose for 45 minutes straight and getting cramped from not moving. The entire day lasted nearly 13 hours.

She says that she was not worried at first about how her friends and family would react to her photos, but as the release date came closer she did. She was very relieved once she started getting support for her decision to pose.

She says that there was not much persuasion needed to pose nude. She feels Playboy is the best men’s magazine there is and that she buys it every month.

She and Howard agree that her career in WCW had stalled. She says that she was bored after about a year in WCW, but didn’t want to complain because of the money she was making. She praises WWE for using their talent to their potential and developing characters.

Tom asks about her “lesbian” storyline with Sable. She believes that “Sable” is trying to make her feel uncomfortable, so her character is going to try hard not to let that happen. She says her character does not appreciate her advances, and that she doesn’t know what Sable’s motives are.

Caller Kyle from MA asks if girls hit on her in high school, since she has now had Dawn Marie and Sable make advances. She says no, but that she wouldn’t know it if they did. She suggests maybe they did stare at her in the locker room.

She says that she was excited to learn that she would be trained to wrestle when she was hired by WWE. She enjoys her matches and feels she is improving with each match. More praise is provided toward Fit Finlay for his training of the divas.

She says that she might consider moving to Raw to compete for the Woman’s Championship, but she enjoys being on SmackDown. She feels she is on the better show.

She would definitely consider another Playboy shoot. She talks about getting misty-eyed once her first shoot was ending.

She and fiancé Billy Kidman are vacationing in Connecticut this weekend. She says Kidman is getting frustrated that his shoulder injury is not healing as fast as it could.

Torrie tells the story of a small rib played on her by Sable. She and Nidia were joking backstage about how the ring announcer never announces the hometown or weight of the women’s competitors. She laughs that when Sable was on commentary last week that she said Wilson weighed 190 pounds, and then corrected that figure to 180 pounds.

Torrie Wilson leaves the show.

Goldberg joins the show.

Goldberg is asked what finally convinced him to sign with WWE. He says many things went into his decision. He mentions Rock, Vince McMahon, the state of the business, and the fans response all contributed to his decision.

He says that he is now wrestling for the Mecca of professional wrestling. He feels that anyone in the business owes it to himself or herself to work for WWE if they have the opportunity. He states that the product is much more slick than WCW was.

He says that money definitely was not a factor in his decision to sign. He states that even though he would have been giving up the guaranteed contract from Turner, he could have made much more by signing immediately after WCW was purchased.

He does not believe it is fair to compare his passion for the business with others. He points out that his true passion is professional football. Once that dream was cut short, he needed focus his passion toward sports entertainment. He compares that to the passion of Chris Benoit, whose only goal was to become a professional wrestler. He states that he enjoys performing for his fans, and that money and fame is not important to him.

Howard talks about the love that Goldberg has for children. Goldberg again states that performing for younger fans instills a passion in him. He says that because he wants to be a role model for children, he is more comfortable being a face.

He states that his WCW character was one-dimensional, and that he happened to have the right gimmick at the right time. He says he owes it to the business to attempt to develop his character, and cites the Goldust segment from Raw as one of those opportunities.

Regarding The Rock, he feels that Rock has not done everything in sports entertainment. He looks forward to Backlash to knock Rock off his throne.

Goldberg has been surprised at how cordial and receptive his fellow wrestlers have been toward him. He talks about how his experience in the WCW locker room had molded him to become somewhat defensive, but feels that his experience with WWE has been positive.

Caller John from VA asks if Goldberg can live up to the expectations of the fans. He feels that the stage is set for Goldberg to succeed; if he doesn’t, he will take the blame.

He talks about the marketing for his new t-shirts. He mentions first one was not very good; he purposely wore a jacket his first week to cover it. He does have some input on the designs and feels that the newer one is much better.

Howard asks about the origin of “Who’s next?” Goldberg explains that coming upon that catchphrase was a fluke. After his third dark match, he was in a diner with his brother and a film producer. They were trying to come up with a tagline, when the waitress came to their table and asked, “Who’s next?” to order.

Raw emanates from Atlanta, GA this Monday. Goldberg says that it is always special to work in Atlanta because he has so many ties there. He says he was nervous all weekend when he found out he would be winning the WCW Title from Hulk Hogan in Atlanta a few years ago.

Caller Frank from VA asks for Goldberg’s favorite opponents. Goldberg has three:

That he defeated: Hogan for the title in the Georgia Dome

That he jack hammered: The Giant (now Big Show) because he weighed about 550 pounds at that time

Overall match: Sting in Las Vegas, NV at a pay per view

He talks about getting butterflies before wrestling every match. He feels everybody who performs gets that feeling.

Howard asks if Goldberg would have wanted to debut at WrestleMania. Goldberg says that maybe the Rock / Goldberg rematch can happen at WrestleMania 20. He feels that debuting this year may have detracted from other important matches that occurred. He talks about not being able to watch WrestleMania this year, not because of the product presented, but because he wanted to perform there.

Tom asks about Goldberg being compared to Stone Cold Steve Austin. He says that he is a big Austin fan, but that he does not admire anyone enough to copy him or her. He says that his demeanor is such that he knew he could not wrestle in anything but black. He feels that he could not be as menacing in multi-colored ring attire. At first, he was annoyed with the comparison, but now realizes he should have been flattered.

Goldberg leaves the show.

Howard and Dr. Tom discuss the entire card for Backlash, and Howard runs down upcoming WWE events as the show concludes.

Tentative guests for next week: John Cena, Kevin Nash

“Byte This!” can be seen live Fridays at 4:00pm Eastern time at WWE.com.

That's why Jamie Knoble is a jobber, Helms is a comedy character, cruisers get squashed by hosses every week, etc.

Well, the WWE locker rooms are happy places everyone gets along, the writing is brilliant, and everyone gets pushed and rewarded or punished according to what they deserve.

Oh, and Vince is a genius.

Just ask any of his employees in a public forum and they'll all tell you the same...

She says that she was excited to learn that she would be trained to wrestle when she was hired by WWE. She enjoys her matches and feels she is improving with each match.

Lie, lie, lie...lie, lie, lie, lie,lie...

She and Stacey both bitched about it. I've seen little improvement. She's still total shit in the ring, but she does more moves. Learn to walk before you try to run, ho. That's why Maven has a crappy moveset but is still a far better worker than Orton or Batista were.

She says that she might consider moving to Raw to compete for the Woman’s Championship, but she enjoys being on SmackDown. She feels she is on the better show.

Better show, yes...but not for long at this rate. Compete for the women's championship?! BWAHAHHA!!

The hell? A positive sign from Goldberg?! Does this actually mean that Goldberg won't be boring as shit in the future...or is he just giving us false hope? (I know which is more likely, but hey, who knows)
