At least the family has closure. A horrible story and if this guys guilty and it certainly looks that way he should receive the harshes penalty.

Lies, Scott Peterson was never arrested, in fact he isn't 100 years from being arrested by those Modesto imperialists. Mr. Petereson will be free forever God willing. All accusations made against him are slanderous, Mr. Peterson is innocent, there were no bodies recovered!, it was all fabrications, the "evidence" is nothing but illusions, anyone who believes in them are naive, retarded and... condemned. My opinion once more is, Mr. Peterson will rise up and slaughter them all.

All joking about a murder aside I am from the Modesto area and Peterson was always an obvious suspect, his alibi and actions thoughout have always been suspect so I'm glad he's finally going to face the music.

If I were to have my better half go "missing" I would wait longer than a week before selling off her big-ticket items...

Well, at the very least, her family has closure.

Everything I've ever heard from the family of a missing person is that they'd rather hear that the person is dead rather than simply not know one way or the other.

He probably should be convicted for this. It might be a rush to judgment, but his actions were more than a little odd and there has yet to be a viable alternative to him.

But, then again, this is CA --- where a jury was found who thought OJ didn't do it. Even money on him walking.

-=Mike -- who doesn't have a heck of a lot of faith in a conviction.

O.J. was rich.

The guy had dyed his hair and grown a goatee, he was also arrested near San Diego which is close to Mexico.

Ugh. I knew when they found that baby's body it could only mean one thing... poor Laci. I guess all I can hope for now is that justice is served.

I think that Scott Peterson is going to be spending the rest of his life in prison. He has a great chance of even get the death penalty (yes we do have that in California).

On your point about OJ Mike, in that case, OJ was able to hire a dream team of lawyers and he was able to play the race card as well. Here Scott Peterson will not have as much fortune to get that type of defense. And in the case that if he did murder his unborn child and wife, he will not be getting any sympathy. We might have a wierd court system here, but in this case I do believe that justice will be served.

All Scott's got to do is say he's sorry and feels bad about (as of right now "allegedly") killing his wife and that blob of tissue in her belly, and he'll steer clear of death row...

I want him to fry.

However, I fully expect them to let him walk,

You should point out that your death penalty is the biggest joke on earth, and the kid would have been almost forty (Exageration. I think it's a bunch over 20 years) by the time they actually got aound to it.

Well I don't believe in the death penalty. It lets the convict off way too easy. I'd rather he be sentenced to back breaking labor. Unfortunately, if Peterson was to fry, it would not bring Laci and the unborn back to life. And in California there is the appeal process, which does mean the person could take many years to finally be a Deadman Walking. But I rather there be a an appeals process, that way all the evidence, including DNA is entered into the fray. I rather it be like it is in California, than states like Texas, which loves to execute it's prisoners. The Death Penalty is an outdated thing where it was believed that one was going to spend entire entirnity in eternal hell fire. Well, being that I don't believe in hell, so IMO executing someone lets them off too easy. Bring back the chain gangs and see criminals get scared. In some cases the criminal wants to die and being that criminals this day and age are put to sleep through lethal injection, I can see why. And I don't think the death penalty really deters crime like it should.

Well, at least you have an acceptable reason for being anti-death penalty.

And the California appeal process is ridiculous. There is a happy medium between California (One extreme) and Texas (the other)

You have the gas chamber, don't you?

I always thought a good one would be to cut someone's arm and throw them in a shark tank.

Now if the death penalty was like that, we'd be talking. And you are right that appeals process here in Cali could use a little tweaking here and there. But, the way to put an end to that would be the implementation of the back breaking labor.

You know, I want him to die. But if he has to perform backbreaking labor and be subjected to prison rape daily, It seems like a fair substitute.

I find it disturbing that you're condemning the guy to death before he's even had a fair trial.

He did it. I don't give a flying fuck what a jury says. A jury acquited OJ.

And you say this having seen approximately 2% of the evidence.

Jesus, wait until the trial. Watch it. See the evidence presented. Then, make your judgement.

And you say this having seen approximately 2% of the evidence.

Which includes him not only having means, motive and oppotunity, not only having a shitty ass alliby that just blew up in his face, not only being seemingly unaffected by the whole thing (Selling her stuff?), but disguising himself and possibly trying to get to Mexico? IMO, He has to prove that he didn't do it.

And that's a stupid fucking way to think.

You're taking the media's opinion and using it as your own, suggesting a man should be fucking executed over it.

None of us even know HALF of the story, so wait until the damned trial until you start condemning the guy to death.

Stop making sense, Tyler. I'm agreeing with you too much for both our likings, I'm sure. :P

Not to mention the fact that our system is completely fucked up anyway (and the fact that the needle-happy state government doesn't seem to want to do a damned thing about it makes it even worse).

All death penalty talk aside, though, it really is a shame that it had to end with Laci's dead body and the fetus' body turning up like that. But like somebody else said, at least the family now has some closure. Now it's up to the legal system to give them justice (and I guess all we can do there is keep our fingers crossed, right?).

The same legal system that told us O.J. wasn't a murderer.

This shithead will walk.

You know, Stalinist Russia used to have the "guilty until proven innocent" mantra, too.

You know, our justice system gets a really shitty rap, and undeservedly so. For every OJ case--a case, by the way, in which the reasonable doubt seemed to hinge a lot on problems with police procedure, not the actual judicial system--there are hundreds where justice is done properly, fairly, and appropriately.

Bottom line, innocent till proven guilty should always be the way, and making judgments based on a small number of highly publicized cases is making an unrepresentative decision.

Oh, I know he has to go through a trial. That's what makes America America.

It's just very frustrating because I have no reason to believe that he won't walk and get away with murder.

Call me jaded. Whatever.

Based on what? I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, I'm just curious. As Edwin pointed out, the sensational spectacle of the OJ trial isn't exactly common practice here in CA.

Also, since there's been talk of it in this thread, when was the last time we (California) executed someone on death row anyway? I believe it's been a few years, at the very least. For a frame of reference, Charlie Manson's still alive and well, isn't he? Or did he get a life sentence?
