Evil Overlord List

Recommended Posts

Guest Sakura

Though he is not in a rpg, I would just like to say Shao Kahn is the best Evil Overlord ever.

Dude has no sold dying TWICE.

Only twice. He's died 3 times, but he hasn't returned yet from the 3rd death(no doubt he will though, eventually).

In the Outworld tournament(MK II) he was defeated(probably by Liu Kang). He started screaming, turned to stone, and then blew up into pieces. The game said "Shao Kahn's rule is over!!!".

That was completely no sold leading into MK3's story. I mean COMPLETELY no sold. MK3's story picks up like nothing had ever happened to him.

During his invasion of Earth(MK3, UMK3 and MK Trilogy) he was once again defeated(again, probably by Liu Kang). This time everything flashed black and white, then he started screaming as the souls of Earthrealm came rushing out of his body in a big pillar of greenish light. He blew up and took his entire EVIL LAIR with him. The game said "Shao Kahn is no more".

He was dead throughout MK4 and MK Gold.

Then in MKDA he no sells death once again. They completely drop the fact that he was dead and out of power and instead claim that he had just been weakened and was chilling out rebuilding his army the entire time.

And that's when the Deadly Alliance, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, attack and kill him for the 3rd time.

Ah. Ok, I thought it was 3 times. The killing that is.

Oh, and can someone tell me WHY they killed off Liu Kang (at least that's what someone told me)? He's the only guy I was truly great at playing at. Besides him and the original Sub-Zero (who died and was replaced or something like that). And also why I never will touch DA. If he was killed in a game before that, I probably no sold that game like Kahn no sold death.

Seriously though, he no sold death twice? Damn, that really is an Evil Overload. I mean, seriously, isn't that a rule or something that they keep on getting killed so as to create no variation to the plot?

Oh and haven't played DA yet, but Tsung and Chi kill him off? THOSE TWO OF ALL FUCKING PEOPLE? You mean we couldn't get like... I don't know, someone else to do it? I mean, Tsung and Chi are supposed to be evil I know, but seriously... It's the hero's job to kill the no selling bastard and do aw-

Oh wait. Liu Kang's dead (I think). Nevermind..

Yes, it's true. Liu Kang is dead.

Quan Chi and Shang Tsung begin their alliance by killing the two most powerful men that can stand in their way: Liu Kang and Shao Kahn.

It all goes down in the MKDA intro.

As for why they killed Liu....probably because they felt he was getting boring and they wanted to make room for newer characters. I'm guessing they decided not to put him in and then decided to write him out via death just to put the Deadly Alliance over as a threat and just because it's pretty dramatic and unique to go ahead and kill off the main hero.

As for Kahn no selling death....I understand why they did it the first time. Kahn actually taking over the world in MK 3 was a very cool premise for the game and he obviously couldn't do that if he died in MK II. They could have at least explained how he came back to life, though. His second no selling of death is just dumb. They brought him back so that he could get killed off again. WTF!? That makes no sense. I would be sort of ok with it if they brought him back to actually use him again. Why bring someone back and then kill them off again?

You're right. The original Sub-Zero died. Scorpion killed him in the first Mortal Kombat. The Sub-Zero in MK II, MK3, MK4 and MKDA is his younger brother. The original apparently reappeared as Classic Sub-Zero in UMK3 and MKT but turned out to actually be someone else under the mask who's identity they never bothered to reveal.

Anyway, I wouldn't feel too bad for poor Liu. Nobody ever REALLY dies in Mortal Kombat. Mileena and Cage have died and returned. If they can, so can an icon like Liu. I would bet just about anything we haven't seen the last of Kahn or Kang.

Actually Sakura I think your wrong. I don't remember where, but I read an interview with the guys who did MK - I think it was either Gamespy or Spot that has it, I'm not sure as a buddy linked me to it - and they said that Liu Kang is dead. Period.

Although, they probably just got their asses bitched at so much that they probably will have him no sell death. I mean everyone who dies makes the person who killed him a joke.

Oh. And I believe that the person who played Sub-Zero in UMK3 is still Sub-Zero's younger brother.

God, why the fuck do they have to go and fuck with a good storyline heading from 2? I mean 3 made NO sense and the more I hear about DA, the less and less I have the sudden urge to play it.

Then again, I avoid Tekken for the same reasons after 2... When 4 came out and I saw the who knew who and the connections to them, I just went, "ok, this has more twists in this than any horror flick out there."

Well, yes. Liu Kang is dead. He is indeed a rotting corpse. My comment about him and Kahn returning is speculation.

I don't understand what you mean by this...

"Oh. And I believe that the person who played Sub-Zero in UMK3 is still Sub-Zero's younger brother."

There are TWO Sub-Zeros in UMK3 and MKT. Unmasked, which is the younger brother. And then a masked one called Classic Sub-Zero.

I think MK3 has the best story out of the series.

I meant, I just think that both were the same person. Just unmasked and not... I haven't played MK3 in years though.

Hm... Have to refresh my memory as it's cloudy.

It's not.

Classic Sub-Zero's ending says he is thought to be the older brother but when he removes his mask he shocks the Outworld and Earth warriors by revealing himself to be a warrior from a previous tournament long thought dead. Then it says he will return in Mortal Kombat 4.

He never did and they never said who it really was.

Here is some trivia: Both Sub-Zeros, all of the ninjas and Shang Tsung are all played by the same actor in MK3. His name is John Turk.

Wonder who the hell they were thinking of bringing back. Would be interesting if they actually brought the bastard back in DA2.

Oh you know there will be another game.

Every Evil Overlord must return for one final hurrah.

*shrugs* I don't really know how we ended up in Mortal Kombat.

I swear that someone should pin up an "One And Only Video Game Chat Thread" so that we can end up chatting about general stuff instead of having something like this about Evil Overlord's then someone like myself do a stupid, and change topic.

At least, for the most part, we were rambling on about Shao Kahn and he's an EVIL overlord.

I want to give another evil overlord some props. This time from a RPG. Rufus Shinra. Total pimp!!! He like emotionally no sells his dad dying and immediatly cuts a promo about how he will rule the world with fear. Classy.

Hey. Can't forget Kefka, Sakura. Now THERE was a guy who you knew would actually kill the Emperor, but you were cheering the bastard on to do it too.

Kefka was the ultimate evil overlord.

Tales of Phantasia Mint?

No. I meant like that chick from Threads of Fate.

Oh damn. Mint wasn't her name I think. Wasn't it Maya? Damn, I can't remember. I just know she would've made a cool overlord.

Yeah... That would be a little silly. Mint from ToP would be strange trying to become an overlord after trying to save the world.

I need to ask this question to everyone: who was the funniest overlord you can think of?

Kefka was funny, in a sick kind of way.

Yup. I really wished that they re-did FF6 for the PS2, so that we could get a great maniacally laugh of his Greatness.

Of course, I would've so been there for the audition. I've got the greatest evil maniac overlord laugh around.

<_<...uh, to all would be heroes, I am not a future Overlord in training. Just saying that I'm very good at the laugh...

 ehh.... LOOK~! A BASELISK~! *runs away while any would be heroes turn to face the baselisk*

Question: Mortal Kombat lore for the first three games states that Goro died in the first MK tournament, presumably at the hands of Johnny Cage or Liu Kang.

According to the Kitana missions of MK:DA, Goro was the leader of his people and was fighting alongside Kitana when he died in an attack on the Outworld army.

When did Goro miraculously come back to life? Was it in UMK3, MKTrilogy, MK4, or through bad storytelling in MK:DA?

Goro was defeated by Liu Kang in the first Mortal Kombat. I'm guessing you mentioned Johnny Cage because of the movie.

In MK II the intro and Kintaro's bio mention the "apparent" death of Goro at Liu Kang's hands.

He is in the CD versions(PSX, Saturn and PC) of MK Trilogy but has no story or ending, which most likely means he had no part in Shao Kahn's invasion.

In the home versions of MK4 Goro was added to the game as the sub-boss. The story was that he wasn't dead, but was hiding in Outworld and he had returned to get a rematch with Liu Kang.

In MK Gold Kung Lao was added and his ending showed the truce with Kitana and his face turn.

So, he didn't really "come back to life" since they had always refered to him as "apparently" dead.

Oh, and Kung Lao got the exact same treatment.

In both Liu Kang's and his own ending in MK3 he "apparently" died. Then in MK Gold they brought him back saying he was just in hiding the entire time.

We need a "the one and only MK storyline" thread~!
