Flip top box covers

Recommended Posts

Guest goodhelmet

Ok, I have no desire to purchase a Japanese PS2. I have no desire to put a mod chip in the system to fuck it up. the best route I have seen to play Japanese games for the PS2 is the flip top box with converter disc. Does anyone here have one? Is it worth it?

There is more information about it here for those who have never heard about it...

I don't have one myself, but I have been told by many people that it is the way to go for imports. Supposed to be easy to install and works fine with all the games they've played.

I'm also considering to purchase one, but since I'm such a spaz at hardware I fear that I'll cut the ribbon in my PS2 when opening and closing the case. Btw you need a bootdisc as well as the lid to play imports

Also, when you want to play original games, do you need open the flip top? cant you just eject the DVD normally?

Another option is to buy a pre-modded PS2. There is a Canadian site that sells them complete with the Magic 3.1 Mod Chip installed. It plays japanese games, burned games on CDR, burned games on DVDR and burned PSX games without using any swap disks or a Game Shark. It plays all burned games like regular games. I'm thinking of ordering one myself. It sounds amazing. If you have a DVD Burner on your PC, you could literally get any PS2 game you want for like $4-$5 each.

Well, I got the flip-top lid and it works great! I backed up all my CD based games and they played with no problem. The lid is pretty easy to install as well. Way better than soldering a mod chip.

How does playing original games work? Do you use the fliptop cover or can you just eject the DVD?

Normal games work like they always do. Power up the PS2 and open the cd-tray using the eject button, load it and play.

Oh yeah, more motivation to get one of these. I found a program that allows you to play both Genesis and SNES games on your PS2. I made some CD's last night using my existing ROMS. So now my PS2 also works as a multi-console. Playing Forgotten Worlds on a PS2 rawks!
