If the 9-11 terrorist attacks happened exactly four years before they actually did in 1997. Bret was at the peak of his anti american run and was the center of the WWF at the time. What do you think the WWF would have done. Would they given Bret a few weeks off to let the Backlash blow over. I don't know if they could have just dropped it because it was a very hot angle and it would hurt the WWF even more and they couldn't afford something like that in '97. I mean what the hell would Bret and the WWF do?

They could have Bret come out and publicly back America, turning him face in the process, helping out Vince, making Vince honour his long term contract, making Bret stay in the WWE, Bret in turn would not fight goldberg, and the best WWE Champion in history would still be wrestling today.

Likely Bret would have been off air for a couple of weeks and then he would have done a "God Bless America" type of speech where he renounces his faith...Bret is kinda forced to be a Face..Austin becomes a Tweener but Bret still leaves and since he was once again a major face with WWF...It would had made McMahon EVEN MORE hated then he already was...

 

Bret would've still gone to WCW and just been Bret Hart...Not the Ant-American or anything...

Are you forgetting how they almost made the Anti-Americans burn the U.S. flag in MSG? Bret would have continued and escalated his anti-US rants, leading to an attack by an enraged insane fan. An extremely pissed off Bret would then walk out on the company because this is the same bs they pulled with The Nation racism angle, and he doesn't want his work fucking with his life. He would go to WCW where he would go back to being Bret Hart, TBTI TBTEWB wrestler and give us some of the most memorable matches ever.

I think they would have just toned down the Anti-American side of the gimmick and gone more towards Pro-Canada or just went back to being "The Excellence Of Execution" only as a heel

 

I'm pretty sure the trajectory of his leaving the WWF would have been the same though. Maybe Vince doesn't shoot at Montreal but turns mega "Mr. McMahon" heel on Bret's last Raw "GET OUT OF MY RING! BRET HART! YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE
