Guest Pigsy Report post Posted April 22, 2003 They deserved to get caught for being stupid. The funniest bit, IMO, was: Ingram: I think the answer is Berlin. Yes, I'm absolutely positive it's Berlin. I'm sure that Berlin is the correct answer. No doubt in my mind. I'm definitely going with Berlin. (off-camera) *cough* no! Ingram: ...or maybe it's Paris. I've no problem with them CHEATING TO WIN~!, but don't be so stupid and blatantly obvious with it.

Wouldn't it work better with Guy: "I'm thinking the answer is A or B." *cough* Guy: "Now I'm leaning towards A." *cough cough* Guy: "B! Definatly B!" Work out a system or something
Guest Mole Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Whatever, that show is dumb.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 22, 2003 Is that because you weren't good at it Mole? I enjoyed the Regis WWTBAM but the Meredith Viera version is just painful to watch
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted April 22, 2003 I liked the show the first few times I saw it. But then the little things would get to me. Regis would always try and get them to give an early idea of what they thought it was. Then when they did the 50/50 the two they were leaning towards came up every single time. It was bullshit when they said it was random. Plus the 10 seconds it took in between answers and to tell if they were right or wrong was annoying.

Work out a system or something I should have said this in the first post but the show I was referring to was in the UK. Basically, in the UK one of the contestants tried to cheat by having a friend help him by coughing when he said the right answer. It sort of worked... he won the £1 million prize. However, it was so obvious that the producers, crew, fellow contestants, etc realised something was up and the whole thing went to court. The show I was referring to was about the attempted fraud, with clips of the relevant show. Anyway, they had a system where Ingram (the contestant, you probably figured that out) would repeat each of the answers and his friend would cough at the right one. But, on the £125,000 question Ingram seemed convinced he knew the right answer (he didn't) and wouldn't say any of the other possible answers, forcing his friend to basically shout "no!" - which pretty much gave them away. If you're going to CHEAT TO WIN~!, stick to the system. (FWIW, I agree the show is pretty dull, but this whole case was pretty funny).
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted April 23, 2003 I think I remember on the Regis one him occaisonally telling the audience to refrain from making any kinds of noise. About the worst thing I remember seeing on there was this really prissy bitch who took forever to answer the questions, but was always so cocky about knowing the answer. She got up to the half million question, took forever to answer, finally did, Regis did his usual "is that your final answer" then she took another five minutes going "yes...no...yes...no" Regis finally got her to commit to the answer, she got it wrong and then got pissed off, shouting that it wasn't her final answer. Stupid bitch. I never got interested in the rounds until it got up so far and questions got tougher. The opening rounds were just way too easy and by the time the game got interesting the person would lose.
Guest the 1inch punch Report post Posted April 23, 2003 I'm in Ireland, so I know what he's on about. Basically, it was the funniest 90 minutes of tv ive seen since the Micheal Jackson documentary (also produced by Martin Bashir, obviously no doofus in the "pick a job" department). Frankly, if it wasnt for the fact that were the two most arrogant people ever, and if they'd stopped at say, £125000, i would have said, ha ha, well done. But they got greedy, and that was their downfall C'est la Vie It should be noted of course, that the pair have been tewlling anyone who will listen that it programme was edited against them, and they wernt represented. WELL DUH These are the two planks in question, in case Americans are curious
Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted April 23, 2003 If one of them was in the audience and knew the answer to the questions, why couldn't he have been in the hot seat instead of the other one?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 23, 2003 Variety says that U.K. producer Celador is in talks with U.S. studios about making a movie regarding the cheating contestant who was on the U.K. version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The producer believes the story, which was told in a 90-minute documentary on commercial broadcaster ITV Monday, has all the elements for a blockbuster in the vein of Robert Redford's Quiz Show, starring Ralph Fiennes. After a monthlong trial, which ended April 7, Major Charles Ingram, his wife Diana and friend Tecwen Whittock were found guilty of cheating to win the £1 million ($1.56 million) prize money. Whittock used coded coughs to signal the answers to Ingram during the show, it was found. Ingram and his wife were each sentenced to 18 months in prison and each fined $23,400 plus $15,600 in costs; the prison time was suspended. Whittock got a 12-month suspended sentence and was ordered to pay $11,700 in costs. Yeah, I'm sure this'll be as good as Quiz Show.

Guest welshjerichomark Report post Posted April 24, 2003 If one of them was in the audience and knew the answer to the questions, why couldn't he have been in the hot seat instead of the other one? i thought that too, but the strange thing is the man helping him went into the hot seat straight after and only won like £1000. as the for the show - it was the funniest thing ever. i was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt before the show, but it was the most blatent cheating i've ever seen. i've seen people use more sophisicated methods when cheating in spelling tests. Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted April 24, 2003 If you're going to cheat, at least be discreet about it and not base it on noise. "*cough* NO!" is not considered discreet.
