Newt Gingrich spouts off about State Department

Recommended Posts

Guest NoCalMike

Newt Gingrich is of the opinion that "The Contract with America" was the reason for ANY and ALL success for the prosperity under Clinton. So go ahead and laugh at him with me.

It seems like Gingrich just wanted to remind people that he indeed still exists. The administration is wise to dismiss his comments and quip about his motives for making them.

As I said in my redux thread (whoopsie), I'd just love to see how Georgie Porgie is going to explain how Powell got away.

He's leaving in 2004, IIRC. He ought to run and fuck up the Republican vote for Bush.

We could only hope.

I think more Americans are able to stomach going to war simply because of a wonderful leader like Colin Powell. If the Bush administration lets him go, that is a huge mistake.

Well the State Department certainly made a mess out of the whole Iraq thing. Can anyone honestly say that the UN PR stunt was at all helpful?

I don't think that falls back on Powell, though. From the very beginning, we've known who was in charge; simply because he's been forced to follow the administration's plan, Powell has taken some flak. However, hearing the evidence presented by a man like Powell certainly gives it more weight, and I think the administration would be making the gravest of errors to allow him to leave.

Where did you hear that, by the way?

I don't think Powell was forced to do anything. Frontline had a special, and they said Powell just grew tired of the UN (especially Germany, France, and Russia) putting roadblock, after roadblock in front of the US.

Powell got tired of the administration breathing down his neck apparently. I mean he literally did a 180 degree turn in the span of two months on his opinion on if we should attack Iraq or not.

Where did you hear this. PBS which isn't Pro-Bush, says Powell got tired of the UN.

Powell was teh major force behind going to the UN first. He realized he was wrong after he saw the clusterfuck that is the UN in action and changed his mind. It happens.

Newt probably has a book or something that he's getting ready to publish, so he needs to get in the public spotlight again...

The White House scheduled that whole PR tour, Powell was given a nearly impossible task of making the war legitimate based on flawed rhetoric.

I still don't understand 6 months of hype and talk for a 3 week war. BTW, I'm not calling for the sacking of Powell but lets be clear the state department failed miserably RE: Iraq.

He realized he was wrong after he saw the clusterfuck that is the UN in action and changed his mind.  It happens.

Why is the UN now suddenly a clusterfuck? Oh nos, they didn't do exactly as the US government prescribed! Call the whaaaaambulance!

Boo fucking hoo.

No they didn't do what THEY perscribed. If France, Russia, China, & Syria never wanted war they should not have passed resolution 1441.

<SARCASM>and the unilateral and totally biased bent of the US over the previous two years, pissing on eveyone who didn't kowtow to us, had no effect whatsoever.<\SARCASM>

Please. I'm amazed Powell got as much done, and saved as much face for the US as he did. The only douchebags here are in the White House and the Pentagon.

Biased and unilateral?

Shall I mention that this is the same UN with Iraq heading the Disarmament Conference and Libya heading the Human Rights Commission?

The U.N is virulently anti-U.S and, honestly, anti-freedom.

The U.S did the RIGHT thing --- a concept horribly foreign to the U.N.

Why can't people just accept that Powell figured out the UN is a worthless organization?
