Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Figured it's getting alot of coverage. It hasn't been discussed here yet. Anyone the least bit worried about Sars, or is it receiving too much press.
Guest bob_barron Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 As someone who lives in Toronto I don't care about it all
Guest Mad Dog Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 The death rate is only about 4% so I'm not really worried about it. I mean it hasn't even killed over 100 people yet.
Guest starvenger Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Some people are really paranoid about it though. For example, my parents went to Hong Kong during the March break (Spring Break to the majority of this board). They came back, with no problems. Then the whole SARS thing broke out. My dad a G.P. who assists with surgery at York Central Hospital and when they got quarantined, he complied and I presume sat at home looking for cheap cruises (although probably not Crystal). My mom ended up taking a voluntary 10-day quarantine because she went to the hospital to get an exam. So anyways, 10 days, no symptoms, back to work. BUT, some parents complained, because even though she had been back for some 20 days, been voluntarily quarantined and had no signs of SARS, she had been to HK and therefore MUST be a carrier. Sheesh. Anyways, the CDC (www.cdc.gov) has listed a travel alert for Toronto, consisting basically of "don't go to areas where there has been a large concentration of SARS cases". So you can still go and watch the Blow Jays play like a bunch of no-name jobbers.
Guest bob_barron Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Someone in my residence was put under quarantine. I cracked up seeing this- http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ravel_warning_2
Guest Damn You Helmsley Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 All schools closed in Beijing. Doesn't affect me.
Guest Vyce Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Those Chinese are pussies. I had SARS this weekend, and I took some NyQuil and was fine. ...... ....okay, maybe it was just a common cold, but still - those Chinese bastards don't have my superior American immune system.
Guest stardust Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 The death rate is only about 4% so I'm not really worried about it. I mean it hasn't even killed over 100 people yet. The death toll's actually up to near 200 is what the news wires are reporting.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Does anyone know where this came from? Did it just start appearing out of no where, or has it been around longer than that, and it was given the SARS name.
