The One and Only Bond 21 Speculation Thread

From what I know, Brosnan was supposed to take over Bond after Moore. He was finishing up Remington Steele at that time, but when it was announced he would be the next Bond, people started tuning into Steele to see who he was and the ratings went up. Which led NBC to renew the show and Brosnan was unable to take the role. So, Dalton came in and Steele was canceled halfway through the next season as rating went back down. It seems like Dalton was always considered an also-ran.

*ahem*

Timothy Dalton rules all as Bond. Rivaled only by Connery in my book.

And I demand a return to seriousness. Die Another Day made me want to kick the theater manager in the teeth for hosting it.

That is true and untrue.

Dalton had been tested for the role many times before The Living Daylights. When Moore quit after AVTAK, the first actor tested was director John Glen's choice: Sam Neill from Hunt for Red October. Broccoli hated him though and he wasn't chosen. Dalton was asked to test, came in, was given the part, and then when he found out the schedule left because he was already doing another movie at the same time: Brenda Starr. The movie was delayed. Borsnan tested and was given the part. The network gave Remington Steele 60 days to come up with new episodes or let Brosnan go. On Day 58 they came up with 5 new episodes and Broccoli, outraged said that "Remington Steele will NOT be Bond." The movie was delayed so far back that Timothy Dalton became available again, an he took the role.

Yeah, but the Remington Steele ratings did go up and it was renewed and I have read several articles stating that Brosnan didn't take the role at that time because NBC wouldn't let him out of their contract thinking the show had finally hit big. So is that just a smokescreen by the producers then?

Brosnan despertaly wanted to play Bond. Think about it: Who would you rather play? Cubby refused to wait for Brosnan more out of pride than anything else.

I think I said in the last post that the network wouldn't let him out of his contract. But the ONLY reason he was even tested was because, at the time, Dalton was unavailable.

So you see, Brosnan was the also-ran.

Here's a topic I thought up just now:

Every great henchman has a gimmick (Grant's non-emotion, Onatopp's sex, Jaws' teeth, Oddjob's hat etc.) what gimmick do you want to see done, and what are your top 5 henchmen?

1. Donald "Red" Grant (FRWL)

2. Oddjob (GF)

3. Mr. Wynt and Mr. Kidd (DAF)

4. Jaws (TSWLM and MR)

5. Baron Samedi (LALD)

Honorable Mention: Xenia Onatopp, Zao, and Necros.
