Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted April 27, 2003 I know technically it isn't old school, but it's 1999/early 2000, which is close enough. When the McMahon/Helmsley first began, Steph and HHH would put Hardys and E & C in matches like brother vs. brother and Matt and Edge vs. Christian and Jeff. Question: anyone remember why they did this? I also remember Steph wanting people to intentionally injure the two teams too. What did she have against E&C and the Hardyz? Thanks in advance. Guest papacita Report post Posted April 27, 2003 If I remember right, they were just abusing their power, which lead to a Rock-led strike in early 2000. I'm not sure why they'd want to injure the teams though.
Guest Memphis Report post Posted April 27, 2003 I'm not totally sure. However during that time they were building SMH & HHH as complete assholes on this huge power trip, having them book ridiculous 'Pink slip on a pole' matches and endless handicap matches. Due to the fact that both teams at the time were babyfaces, they were fair game to use within the angle. While i don't recall exactly what either team did to piss the Regime off, I'm sure it was just part of the angle to continue to develop SMH & HHH as the dominant heels of the WWF. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2003 I think it might have had something to do with the Outlaws being the tag champs. Maybe Steph was trying to eliminate the competition.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 27, 2003 Steph and HHH were just being dicks because they could be. I don't think there was any real motive. It was just: We can and will fuck with you. The APA were the #1 contenders for the belts at the time so they were NAO's main competition
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted April 28, 2003 The poster above is right. They were in competition to the Outlawz and Steph wanted to get rid of the competition. Remember, The Hardyz would regularly challenge for the belts.

I believe Matt & Jeff had a cage match with the Outlaws on Smackdown! shortly before Thanksgiving.
