Guest red_file Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Here's what I want to know. Did The Real Cancun do better than Strangeland? Considering that Strangeland only made $373,288 its opening weekend, it wasn't difficult to beat it.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 The only major suprise here is CONfidence to me. I mean it looks good and all, but just one of those movies that looked like it would get limited release and not make much...much like Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which is going BACK into theatres in August. Huh? Confessions is going back to the theaters? Who the hell said that and why would they do that? Bombing out the first time wasn't enough? If people didn't go see it in Janurary with NO competition why would they go see it in August? And why do people claim that it was a limited release? It got a pretty heavy marketing blitz and it was in close to 2000 theaters opening weekend. That's not limited. I heard it on the radio a couple months ago. I can only give you what I hear.
Guest pochorenella Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I'd be surprised if X2 didn't make at least $65 million next weekend. I'm positive it'll do better numbers than the first one since it looks so much better with a great story and much more action and cool F/X. I'm watching it on a special preview on wednesday. Do any of you guys know if there are any reviews for it already?
Guest fazzle Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I dunno...I still think it's too early for a movie to make summer level money. Well, considering that Spider-Man was an early May release as well, I'd say that no, it's not too early.

Well, considering that Spider-Man was an early May release as well, I'd say that no, it's not too early. Yeah they will be released the same weekend for the most part. Spiderman came out on my last day of class last year and X-2 does this year. I say X-2 takes home 60 first weekend Matrix in the 80-90 range.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I think that's a little high on the Matrix
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Next Week: 1. X2: 50 - 60+ Mil 2. Lizzie McGuire: 10 - 17+ Mil (Hillary Duff has a loyal fanbase) The Real Cancun, Bulletproof Monk, It Runs In The Family will all be washed away...
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Article on failure of "The Real Cancun" : The failure of the "reality movie" The Real Cancún surprised many analysts who figured that it was the film to beat this weekend. Today's (Monday) Los Angeles Times reported that New Line executives "were perplexed by Cancún's dismal opening, considering that word-of-mouth was good among the 18-25-year-old target demographic." Exhibitor Relations Chief Paul Dergarabedian remarked: "I thought it was going to do a lot more. It had the earmarks of a hit." The film, which follows a group of "uninhibited" college students during spring break in the Mexican resort, had received a giant wave of newspaper publicity and on Friday night was featured on ABC's 20/20, where correspondent Chris Cuomo brought the entire cast of unknowns together, predicted that the film would make them famous, then lectured them abstrusely about the dangers of fame. "As soon as this comes out, all your lives will change. What it will mean, that's up to you. And who is saying it about you is out of your control. And that is something that you're gonna have to deal with. Either you love it because of what is happening or maybe you'll hate it. But that's the reality of this movie." Earlier in the feature ABC film critic Joel Siegel expressed doubt that the film would become a hit, observing, "It's too nice." From Imdb.com I also wonder why it was so packed when I went to see it. I think that this movie was suppose to be a hit but the problem was that it's main audience were in the PG - 13 area. Everybody went to see the movie, but didn't pay.
Guest Retro Rob Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Anyone know how A Mighty Wind did this week?
