I have to agree. I am a Jericho mark, and would be happy if he had the belt because it means he is getting some sort of push, but he wouldn't be the champion. The belt would still be nothing compared to the real belt.

The opinion I seem to draw from here is that if Booker/Jericho (maybe RVD. Even though he can only flip-flip and he isn't THAT over *sarcasm off*) won the belt, things would change..

 

..the skies would go from grey to blue, a halo of light would appear over his head, and HHH would be struck by lightning..Raw would somehow become all wrestling, etc, etc.

 

It wouldn't happen.

 

The only way things will change on Raw is if someone gets the belt, and GIVES it credibility (like having a title reign that means something..)

 

Some chance of that happening, eh?

In a dream scenario...

 

HHH vs. Nash goes down at the next PPV. It ABSOLUTELY TANKS in buyrates and the HHH-Nash match is the main draw, thus putting it at the center of criticism (stay with me).

 

The booking to the match has a screwy finish with a non-decisive winner (hang in there, I'm going somewhere with this). The next night on Raw, Bischoff orders a rematch because of the non-finish at JD. THAT match gets wrecked.

 

Bischoff says "screw it" and decides to vacate the title and hold a tournament to determine a new champion. You have 16 guys in it with the first round of the prelims going down during the weeks between JD and Bad Blood.

 

You are then left with 8 guys. Figure HHH, Nash, Jericho, Booker T., Goldberg, Steiner, HBK and for shits and giggles, the Hurricane. You have the quarters, semis and finals on the Raw PPV to crown your new champ.

 

It all comes together: You get a tournament to crown a champion which can instantly give some credibility to the new champion (which should've been done in the first place, but hey, better late than never). Your Raw main eventers are involved in many of the matches (7 of them), so you don't expose the thinness of the roster by having to run a Rodney Mack-Maven match on PPV. You even give a nod to history by having a tournament at the June PPV, a la the old KOR.

Pfff, I can't get worked over all this OMG ITS A FAKE BELT thing. All the belts are fake to begin with anyway, the only difference between the World Title and the IC belt would be that winning the World belt might actually be remembered a month later.
