Irish whip to the corner, and Parker misses...Morton tags in JYD and he hammers the State Patrol with rights and headbutts. BIG THUMP to Parker, gets two, but Morton covers for the three count at 9:53 to retain the 6-man tag team championship. *1/2 Match surprisingly wasn't all that bad. The referee should have noticed Morton wasn't the legal man and that the pin shouldn't count, but Ross mentioned the referee was a rookie, so that probably makes up for the flop. - Brad Armstrong Vs. "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton: Commentators mention Brad's brother is fighting in the Gulf War, that being Brian Armstrong also known as Road Dogg Jesse James. Eaton attack Armstrong and hammer away. Brad fights back and catches him with a head scissors take down, drop-kick and arm drag, into an armbar. Too quick to call almost. Eaton breaks out and nails him hard. Standing wrist-lock by Landell and he does more stuff that sucks. Slam gets two, and he applies a sleeper hold. Especially WCW. Stan "The Lariat" Hansen: Both men are heels, but Vader gets the default face pop. Vader is also Big Van Vader here, so he has the goody elephant/alien mask that spews steam out of it. It's pretty cool looknig though, so I ain't knocking it. Hansen has chewing tobacco all over the ring. Vader catches Hansen trying to dive over the top rope and bear hugs him, and they brawl on the ramp. Big clothesline by Hansen and he dumps Vader into the ring. Vader eats buckle and Hansen chops a lot. AWESOME clothesline by Vader and he beats the hell out of Hansen with his forearms, gets a two count. They continue to fight, and they shove off the referee several times, drawing the Double DQ at 6:20. *3/4 fun little brawl. Vader with a clothesline from the top rope! He misses a splash, and Hansen tackles him, and chokes him with his bull rope. Vader returns the choke, and Hansen reverses it again. - WCW-United States Championship Match: "Total Package" Lex Luger © Vs. "Dangerous" Dan Spivey: This match will be the last time the, at the time, current U.S Title would be used, as the winner would be issued a new belt, by former U.S champion, Nikita Koloff. Lockup and no one wins it. Lockup again and we get a clean break. Third time, and Spivey hammers Luger in the corner. Whip by Luger and he gets a back drop and football block, followed by a screaming clothesline. Spivey with a knee lift and ax-handle smashes to the back, followed an atomic drop, but its block, and Luger with a back suplex gets two. Spivey was a former NY Jet, and Luger was also a football player, but not professional. Spivey eats boot in the corner and Luger hammers away with rights. Football tackle by Spivey but he gets hung on the top rope, which Ross mentions that if he fell to the floor, its a DQ. Where was that rule in the match earlier? Luger continues the pounding and nails a second rope clothesline! HUGE Powerslam by Luger followed by a sunset flip, but Spivey blocks it with a punch to the face. Double clothesline puts both men down. They brawl to their feet and a double football tackle puts both men down. Luger goes to the top rope, but Spivey slams him off, but Luger cradles him for three at 12:53!!! ***3/4 Awesome match from two sub-par wrestlers. Spivey worked his ass off here and Luger pulled out stuff he never really does. - Tony Schiavone, Nikita Koloff & Grizzly Smith present Lex Luger with the new U.S Belt, but Koloff is a prick, so he nails Luger with the belt, turning heel, and returns to wrestling. - WCW-Tag Team Championship Match: Doom © (w/ Teddy Long) Vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (w/ DDP): DDP comes out first with his diamond dolls, which one of them is black. Badstreet USA is the best theme song. Jimmy Garvin trying to act cool his pretty hilarious. RULES OF WAR GAMES: 1. The War Games consists of 7 periods. The first period lasts 5 minutes. The remaining 6 are two minutes long. 2. Both teams will send in 1 man to the battleground for the opening 5 minute period. 3. At the end of the 1st period, the bell will sound. At that time, the head referee will flip a coin. The team winning the toss will send an extra man in the battleground, giving the team a 2 on 1 advantage. 4. The second --2 on 1-- period lasts 2 minutes. At the end of that period the other team sends in its 2nd man making it --2 on 2-- for the next 2 minute period. 5. When that period ends the team, which won the coin toss sends in its 3rd man in making it 3 on 2. Period is 2 minutes. 6. Pillman is out cold and El Gigante runs out, rips open the door, and forfeits the match due to Pillman being unable to continue at 21:51. ****3/4 For an AWESOME match. Only bad thing was the ending where Pillman is "unconsious" in a submit or surrender only match. - Nick Patrick tells us he is not sorry for his decision and didn't want to be responsible for any serious injury to any superstar. - Quick Replay of Nikita Koloff blasting Lex Luger with the new United States title belt. - Jim Ross & Dusty Rhodes give us their closing thoughts as the tape comes to an end we will be back for Superbrawl on May 19, 1991. Ok I won't, but you know what I meant. Final Analysis: Outside of a few boring under-card matches, this show is pretty good. I don't know about the matches clipped, but I'm not sad that I won't see Terry Taylor wrestle for longer than 5 minutes. Thumbs Up On This One. T-u-o-T-O BTW, i liked Retro Robs way of reviewing the war games match (by dividing into periods) so much, i decided to use it too keep it more organized, ditto as my royal rumble reviews splitting each entrant inot different paragraphs. Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted April 28, 2003 Not bad at all. I would've loved to see JR mock the poor kid who liked Doom. Just wanted to back up the theory that spiltting up the periods makes for much easier reading. Good job!
