Hackers have fun with Madonna decoy

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters/Hollywood Reporter) -- Anyone who thinks they can control the Internet received an object lesson during the past week.

It all started when Madonna literally lent her voice to a popular antipiracy technique. Warner Music Group had audio files purporting to be her new songs uploaded onto peer-to-peer file-sharing services. Anyone who downloaded the decoys, however, heard nothing but the pop star swearing at them. But since then, the pithy profanity has taken on a life of its own.

Some observers thought Madonna was smart to fight piracy with its own tools. Others perceived a thrown gauntlet -- hackers soon defaced Madonna's Web site with an equally profane retort along with several downloadable files of the then-unreleased songs. The defacement also carried a marriage proposal to Morgan Webb, an associate producer and on-air presenter at TechTV who had nothing to do with the prank.

A third group saw a creative opportunity. "What the f--- do you think you're doing," Madonna's now-infamous phrase, is turning up in dozens of remixes and the computer-aided musical collages known as cutups or mashups.

Independent music community DMusic is now hosting a competition for the best Madonna-based track, with the first prize being a "boycott-riaa" T-shirt and stickers.

Links to other related tracks are being put together at http://www.iriXx.org/madonna/ and other sites.

"Madonna was trying to put one over on the kids ... and they in turn wanted to let her know that she's not in as much control as she thinks she is," Webb said, adding that "coke, anger and boredom" were also possible motivators.

Madonna's "American Life" was released Tuesday and is predicted to enter Billboard's charts at No. 1, albeit with sales considerably lower than that for her previous album "Music."

That's my Morgan. Too bad I can't take credit for the prank, cause it's a great one.

To hell with Madonna and all over her overrated crap. I love it when someone tries to fight with the net and loses. Not like she's made any "music" in the last few years that's at all listenable.

Fuck Madonna. She's realized that she can't be provacative with her clothing and appearance anymore, so now she's trying to cash in on the anti-war/Bush/USA movement. As pleased as I am that she put her fucking clothes back on, her new CD is horrible. Absolutely fucking horrible. For her to even go out and record the "What the fuck are you doing?" phrase, for the pure chance that someone was actually interested in downloading her garbage, is pathetic. Her new song sucks. Her new album sucks. Her new video sucks. Madonna sucks.

Fuck Madonna.

What really gets me is whenever she has a new CD the media is all over her tits. I mean MTV, VH-1, etc hype the hell out of Madonna to the point to being sick of her. I don't think of could name another diva 'cept J-Lo that gets this much hype. Hell I was just flipping thru NBC and they had an ad for an "revealing" sitdown interview with Madonna. Whatever.

This morning, I happened to switch to VH-1 and the video for "American Life" was on, so I decided to check it out. I didn't last one minute because the song was so utterly awful. Terrible lyrics, terrible singing, terrible music. Hell, I don't even care about anything she says about the war or the US. It was complete crap.

:firing: Madonna

I can only think of what Madonna thinks about what the hackers did. I love to her what she's going to say when they ask her about it.

Madonna is overrated. For god's sake, on MTV, they treated her like a god, giving Madonna almost 99% of MTV programming the days before her album released!

Yeah no kidding they do that EVERYTIME a new Madonna CD comes. But, you got to give her one thing she knows how to market herself/pimp/whore/give blowjobs/whatever to still be where she is when you consider were many 80s artists have ended up.

With her older music I can at least understand why it was popular. It's not my type of music but I get why people liked it. But she hasn't put anything at all decient in years. She's getting by on name and the fact that MTV and VH1 give her verbal blowjobs every minute of the day.

Madonna annoys me because she has seemingly bought into her own hype. Sweetie, you were Britney Spears 20 years ago, deal with it. Nothing you create is "artistic" or at all original, your opinions blow large sweaty men named Albert, and you're hardly attractive. Thank you for the putting back on your clothes, thats all you've done right in the past decade.

I had to cut myself off, this was about to turn into a 20 paragraph rant on her being worthless.

Don't you all realize she is cultured now that she affected a fake british accent? She sounded better when she talked like she was white trash from Jersey. Her new stuff is a joke, but people still love her. Gotta give her props for her longetivity though.

Madonna is like what, 42, how can she still be a trend setter when shes older then her target audience and in a completely different tax bracket.

Madonna fucking sucks, shes old news and just exploting her old ways and trying to be cool when shes not. Jesus christ, she fucked vanilla ice, why would you buy anything she was involved in.
