Your favorite summerslam

I know 2001 was hailed as the best by some but it wasn't my favorite even though I enjoyed the card.

Personally, I've gotta go with Summerslam '98

Everything seemed to fit so well except for the Oddities match and the tag title. And it was amazing to see Owen adapt to a different wrestling style then what we were accustomed to.

My favorite is 1994. Minus the UT/UT and Mabel/JJ match, it was pretty solid wrestling, including the womens match.

I'm also going to say Summerslam '98. The "Highway to ####" theme made it cool as well. Plus, it may have had the best promotional commerical for any wrestling PPV. I also liked Summerslam '89, '99 & 2001.

I'm going with 97 since it's the only one I saw with friends live and it was Todd Pettengill's final PPV appearance I believe.  He did the million dollar giveaway and got a message from an operator saying the number he called was no longer in use.  Hillarious stuff plus the final 2 matches were awesome.

I've actually liked all of them except '88 and '96. But if I was to choose one favourite I would probably choose 1991 as I found the entire PPV entertaining and because if had Monsoon, Heenan and Piper on commentary, producing dozens of classic lines thoughout the show. SummerSlam has always been the most consistantly good-excellent WWF PPV in my opinion.

Thanks.

All of them were pretty good except 89 and 95, but both shows had something worth watching,  Brainbusters/Hart Foundation and the ladder match repectively.  My favorite is probably 2000, Benoit/Y2J 2/3 falls, TLC, Rock/HHH/Angle that's a pretty ####

Summerslam 1994, my favorite match of all time; Bret vs. Owen in a cage match. The rest of the card was pretty good too.

I liked '91 best, but '92 & '93 were good also, plus '94 had Bret-Owen and '95 had the ladder match and Hakushi-Waltman was also pretty good.  IMO, Warrior-Rude from '89 was just as good, if not better, than Hogan-Warrior from WM6.  I enjoyed seeing Jesse toss Shane on his ass in '99, also.  "That's for your old man, you little bastard!"

Most of the SummerSalms have been good.  "88 isn't that good really, but it's the first one so it's alright.  '89 sucks.  Hogan/Beefcake v. Savage Zues sucked ass.  There is a pretty good Brainbusters v. Hart Foundation match on there.  '90 was pretty good.  Harts v. Demolition 2 out of 3 is the best match IMO.  '91 was one of my favorites.  Enjoyed most of everything on that one.  Same goes for '92.  Can't go wrong with Bulldog v. Bret and Warrior v. Savage.  '93, I liked the stuff where Bret fought Doink then Lawler.  Nothing else is really that good.  It has freaking Luger v. Yokozuna and Undertaker v. Giant Gonzalez.  '94 was good for Bret v. Owen in the cage and bad for Undertaker v. Undertaker.  Only good thing for '95 was Shawn/Razor in the Ladder Match.  Didn't like '96's.  Found the Boiler Room Brawl to be boring.  "97 was alright.  Had Mankind come off the top of the cage ala Jimmy Snuka.  Then there's Owen v. Austin in what was a good match until the piledriver.  '98 is another one of my favorites.  The whole card was good except for the Oddities v. Kaientai.  '99 was to memorable to me.  Nothing really sticks out.  2000 was good.  TLC 1, Beniot v. Jericho 2 out of 3, and Rock v. Angle v. HHH.  Good show.  2001 wa good.  A great Austin/Angle match.  RVD v. Jeff Hardy in the Ladder Match was good, but I kind of expected more.  my favorites are '91,'92,'98, and 2000.

I gotta go with 98-

Except for the Oddities stuff (which wasnt meant to be good anyway) everything is good and some stuff like Rock-HHH and Owen-Shamrock is amazing.

Summerslam 92 has my biggest markout moment (DBS wins title)

I always liked '90, '91, and '93. Anything after that never really did it for me for some reason.. -Jim

The early ones were pretty good, but my top 3 were

1997. Almost all the matches had some stipulation, that added some drama and the Undertaker/Michaels/Hart angle in the main event helped pave the way for some good matches/feuds and it started the DX angle/HBK's heel turn.

1998. The Undertaker/Austin match had been building up since around Over the Edge 1998 and for me, it was the last time I really saw the WWF do some long term booking. An example of this is Rock fighting Shamrock and HHH fighting Owen Hart at Wrestlemania 14. Owen has trouble in his feud with DX so he joins the Nation to fight his rivals, and then Owen's rival becomes Rock's rival and vice versa. The transition to guy I am fighting to help out my partner into full fledged feud is kinda neat and overlooked.

2000. TLC match, Triple threat match, what else do I need to say...

I'd have to go with Summerslam 1992 as my personal favorite, as I like Martel-Michaels for some reason, Savage-Warrior is great, and of course Hart-Bulldog is a classic.  The atmosphere is cool as well, as I think outdoor events kick ass, and the commentary is entertainting.

'93 is great too, with Steiners-Bodies, the 6 man tag, Bret-Doink/Lawler, and Shawn-Hennig (even though it was pretty underwhelming).

Overall, every Summerslam has at least one great match anyway, so it's hard to pick a fav, but yeah I'd have to go with '92.

Cheers--

Wrestling wise, I'd say '98 and '01. But from a personal point of view, I have to go with '91. It was the first wrestling PPV that I ever got and I just have a ton of fun memories of the show. Bret Hart winning the title was the best one for me, because as a mark I was clueless about Perfect's back and I recall how they were building up Bret in the weeks leading up to the show. That was when the WWF wasn't afraid to elevate new talent. Brain, Piper and Monsoon were great on commentary and I marked out so much when Virgil won the Million Dollar Championship.

I agree with the majority, 98 was the best.  01 is my second favorite.

I gotta go old school and say Summerslam 88, mainly because this was the tape that I would rent over and over as a little kid so eventually it just became my favorite.  Who could forget Mean Gene stuck in traffic, Liz ripping her skirt off, the Bulldogs and the Rougeus having a terrific match.

Reposting, I have to wonder why 1998 was the best? It had good matches, yes, but some stuff was just.not fun.

I cant stand Dlo/Val, cause Val sucks.

Xpac/Jarrett definitly wasnt a match iwanted

we got shafted with a squash match between NAO/Mankind.

Oddities Vs. Kai en Tai the less said the better.

Edge/Sable Vs. Mero/Jackie was fun, yet not that good. Few good spites by edge.

Owen/Shamrock

HHH/Rock

Austin/UT are the only matches I remember I was on the edge of my seat for.

What was meant to be so good about SSlam 2001? I found it to be one of the worst ever. RVD/Jeff Hardy was a botched spot fest, Taker/Kane vs DDP/Kanyon was a squash match, the opener and 6 man were just standards fair, Jericho/Rhyno was a great letdown and so was Rock/Booker. Fair enough, Austin/Angle was great drama but the finish sucked. The only match I really enjoyed was X Pac/Tajiri.

The best SummerSlam was 91, 98 or 2000 (which had Kane losing his mask, Shane’s massive fall, Benoit/Jericho, TLC, the return to the ring of Jerry Lawler in what was a hot feud at the time, a great storytelling main event, loads of entertaining matches… far better than 2001)

I have a special place in my heart for SS '91 only because it happened on my Birthday. First and only PPV on that day, August 26.

The D'Lo Brown/Val Venis match from Summerslam 98 is a grossly underrated match.  The crowd was jakked for it, the wrestling was good, and the match told a good story, with the way the chest protector was used.  I would give it ***1/2

Gotta go for sentimental value for Summerslam 91, as it was my first live WWF event, on my brithday too! Big shout out to the August 26th crew! Hennig Vs Hart is a classic.

I also went to Summerslam 92 which was great at the time, but looking back only the WWF and IC Title are great and the rest sucks. Great atmosphere though.

1990 is very entertaining; 1993 is also great; 1994 is good apart from the main event; 1995 was a 1 match show; 1996 had the first seeding of the attitude era with the Boiler Room Brawl - rest of the card is boring; 1997 was a solid enough show; 1998 just rocked!; 1999 is ok, a bit overrated, main event is perhaps too short - but that was down to injuries; 2000 I thought was waaaay overrated; 2001 ruled too, only bad match was the shitty cage match.

I always liked Summerslams 88 through 97 because they weren't part of the attitude era in the WWF. The ones I hate are 98 through 01.

My favorite Summerslam's would have to be 1991, because of the Bret Hart/Mr. Perfect match, and 1997, because of Bret Hart beating Undertaker and winning the WWF Championship for a 5th time thanks to Shawn Michaels. It was great. The crowd hated it and I loved it. The Hart Foundation were the best around that time IMHO.
