What are some awesome DVD box sets?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

I'm about to pick up The Family Guy Volume 1, The Simpsons Season 1, and The Simpsons Season 2. I was just wondering what some great box sets are to pick up, and remember, I'm an extra's whore.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

The Toxic Avenger set, if you're into those kinda of movies. Most of the Troma dvds have extras out the ass, and these are no exception.

there's always the Super Ultra Collecters editions of movies, like ET, The Exorcist, Spider-Man and 2001: A Space Odyssy, they've got a frame of film, a book, lobby cards and all that good stuff.

I notice that Robotech has season sets now, but I think the new repackage does not include the Extra Discs.

I like the Family Guy and the Simpsons sets. I also love the Sopranos sets. Buffy sets are my favorite.

Die Hard

Back To The Future

Nightmare on Elms Street

The upcoming ALIEN 9-Disc set looks great too.

An Alien 9-DISC SET!? What in the world is all going to be on it?

I forgot to mention that I already have the Back To The Future DVD set, and I bought the Family Guy Volume One today, it's great. I'll check out most of these you have mentioned, now I just need money to grab some of them up, heh.

I also have my eye on the Sports Night entire series DVD set. I know it has basicly no extras however, and that's my thing. I don't know if I want to pay so much for just the shows. Should I hold out on a re-release of it in the future, or is this it? If this IS it, I'll gladly pick it up eventually, as Sports Night is one of my top five or so favorite TV shows of all time, it was just such fucking good TV. Not to mention I'm obsessed with Sabrina Lloyd who played Natalie Hurley, God she's great.

What are the best sites for DVD reviews?

An Alien 9-DISC SET!? What in the world is all going to be on it?

Here's what's rumored for the Alien Box set:

" "" There will be new cuts of Alien, ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION. These will include deleted material that will be seamlessly branched into the existing films.

ALIENS will include the theatrical and extended special edition.

ALIEN 3 will have the so-called "Extended Work Print" (David Fincher won't allow Fox to call it a director's cut!) which will incorporate much of the vast amount of deleted footage excised from the radically cut theatrical version, perhaps generating a near doubled running time and a vastly different film.

All four directors look set to provide commentaries along with production crew members.

Each film will also bear cast commentaries.

The supplementary discs will contain approximately four hours of material on each disc including 6-8 featurettes, deleted scenes, documentaries, multi-angle scene studies, full screenplays, trailers, art galleries and DVD-ROM material.

The 9th disc will house the 68 minute Alien Legacy documentary and the 75 minute Alien Evolution documentary. The 9th disc will also contain material on the Aliens comic book series.

It promises to be a more comprehensive package than the 1999 set. The big question of course, what's the damage to your pocket? There is more than enough to entice owners of the original set to buy again, which leads remote control to speculate that it might even come in under £100. Currently set for a Region 1 debut in September, the nine-disc set will, according to Fox's UK press office, "Likely see a release in early 2004" on this side of the Atlantic.Fans' appetites whetted, the anticipation is as gripping as a facehugger. Interesting stuff!""

The Shield, both for the excellent show and the extras.

And if you were a fan of the movies and/or TV series, I'd recommend the Highlander: Season One DVD set. The show didn't really peak until season 3, but season 1 still had its share of highlights, and the extras are pretty dashed good.

Sopranos are not that good for extras. For me The Buffy sets are the best going.

I've never seen that once. I'm begining to think I might better check it out.

If you like Stanley Kubrick you really should get his 9 disc box set. It includes most of his well known movies and is cheaper than buying them seperatly.

Here's a link for the full description

Oh wow, yeah, that'll be mine in time. I don't know why, but I have an urge to go buy the Nightmare on Elm Street set next.

I have the Elm Street boxed set.

If you are a big Freddy fan, as I am...it's awesome.

The extra disc has so many interviews, promo clips and stuff that it's awesome.

The only other extras on the movie discs is commentary for the first one (with Craven, Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon) and the New Nightmare (with Craven)

I bought it the day it was released and it's a nice box set for fans of the whole series. I like them all except part two.

It has some quality extras and it's pretty cheap considering the price of most nice movie box sets with 8 discs. I've seen it for under $70 at Wal-Mart

Thanks a lot, I'll grab it up either new or used sometime this week possibly.

Do any of you know about what I asked about Sports Night? If what is out now is the only set that'll be released, I'll pick it up. I just don't want to if there are any talks at all over a re-release with actual extras, seeing how the current one is basicly void of anything other than just the shows.

Again, one of my favorite shows ever.

Buffy and Angel get my vote because those are the only two DVD sets I own.

I've never watched a single episode of either one of those either. I must be weird or something.

Why did you stop stompin'?

A note about the Kubrick set, there are better editions than what they have in that for Clockwork Orange, 2001, and... Eye Wide Shut I think. So if you're a big fan of those movies you might have to buy them twice.

There's two versions of the Kubrick set.

The earlier set was released with barebones discs shortly after his death likely to make money off his death. That set sucked and was in white packaging.

The newer set which is in black and blue packaging was released with the new and improved versions of the movies.

The newer set has the best versions of the movies you can buy short of the expensive collectors sets.

Right, I knew that, but even the blue and black set doesn't have the discs with the film cells and soundtrack cds and what not. I'm pretty sure it doesn't... I don't have it, though it's on my list.

Yeah, the expensive collector sets... that's what I was refering to.

Well yeah, but still other than the expensive super deluxe collector editions the boxset is the best way to get them.

These, are the best possible editions of Kubrick's most popular movies. If you don't mind paying nearly $60 for each one, then yes go this route.
