But some say what makes a match great well IMO there are certain elements like: crowd heat- a good match can become boring with a crowd that looks like zombies but a descent match can seem good and a bad match can be made enjoyable with great crowd heat ring skills of the participants: Which would you rather watch: Rock vs Austin in a 60 minute iron-man match or Viscera vs Mideon in a 60 minute iron man match? That's what I thought commentary:Listen to J.R's commentary during the main event at WM 18 and you'll know so without further time wasting..... my favorite matches: *Note* I note the matches that I've seen and at the end of each match I'll put my star rating for all the elements of the match. Guest sayeitan Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Off the top of my head, you'd do well to see: Misterio vs Psicosis BATB96 - All-out Lucha clinic Misterio vs Ultimo Dragon - Hog Wild 96 - completely underrated. Spotty but very crisp, unlike the majority of wcw cruiser matches at the time. Triple H vs Jericho Fully Loaded 2000 - Last Man Standing. The wrong guy won, but it was dead heat from bell to bell. If you completely missed this event, you might as well check out Benoit/Rock too. Jericho vs Benoit Backlash 2000 - Possibly their best non-gimmick affair. Owen/Bret vs The Steiners - Wrestlefest 94. Historic. Had that "big one" vibe going for 30 minutes, with tons of neck-breaking maneuvering. Disappointing conclusion, tho. I'm glad to see you share my appreciation of the Ultimate Submission match - that's #### near ***** in my book, because it was everything it could have possibly been. Some say it lagged at points - well their was method to the pacing. And Angle running around while in the lead? Perfection. Meanwhile, Triple H/Cactus in the Cell was an overbooked disaster that exposed the business one flaming barbedwire 2x4 at a time. IMO, that hovers around *** and likes it, mainly because after the action spilled outside of the cage, it became a PG tribute to Mick Foley. -say- Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 24, 2002 The Ultimate Submission match was very good but not *****. Benoit worked the arm for most of teh match and then just jumped to the ankle lock which he put on the left leg and then he worked Angle's right leg. This alone drops it to ****1/4 IMO. That match was the EPITOME of what the two could do at the time. ****3/4 Also, Benoit/Jericho vs. Power Trip at San Jose RAW *****+ Benoit/Austin from Edmonton SmackDown! ****3/4 And... Ohtani/Guerrero at Starcade '92 (?) ****1/2 I forgot if it was 92 or not. I think it was, because Tatsumi Fujinaki got a RIGHTEOUS ass kicking at the hands of the Steiners...in a ****1/4 match. Guest Anorak Report post Posted March 27, 2002 I love a lot of those matches but the Angle/Benoit/Jericho at Mania 2000 wasn't all that great in my opinion, i'd give it less than **** stars. The submission match at Backlash didn't grab me at all but on the other hand i also love the HBK/Bret ironmatch which so many find dull these days, each to their own i guess. Bret vs Owen Summerslam 94 ***** best cage match ever Savage vs Warrior WM 7 ***** storyline,match, just pure gold and the last one i can think of: Bret vs Piper at WM8 **** 3/4. just a fabulous match. ill post more as i think of them thought of more: Bret vs Austin: SS 96 i think. Guest krambigmac Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I'm surprised no one mentioned Steamboat and Savage at WM 3. You need to see that if you haven't. Flair and Sting had a few really good matches. GAB 90 and Clash 1 were the 2 best that I've seen but Clash 27 had a great one I heard and so did a Saturday Night episode. You didn't mention any Midnight Express matches so watch some of those. They had a near 5 star match with the Southern Boys at GAB 90 and a few great matches with the Rock and Roll Express and Fantastics. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
