Guest SweetNSexyDiva Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I was watching the news and saw that the Art Institute of California, San Diego has classes for a Bachelor's Degree in Video Game Design. I thought it was cool and wanted to share. Here's an article if you are interested.Video Game Design Link

Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I worked for full sail when I lived in Orlando. it was cool to look at with the recording sutdios, rows of Macs with Pro Tools stuff... but the school is a rather large scam, I'm afraid.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 30, 2003 Hmm, that is interesting, and I kind of want to be in that field. But no way am I going for another Bachelor's. I wonder what textbooks they use.

Guest Kingpk Report post Posted April 30, 2003 No one has ever heard of DigiPen? EGM had a story on it last year. It's pretty much the only school exclusively dedicated to game making. It's partly bankrolled by Nintendo and nearly all graduates get a job in the industry. It's pretty hard to get into and the curriculum is supposedly grueling, though. Guest SweetNSexyDiva Report post Posted April 30, 2003 LOL, last night was the first I had heard about a Bachelor's in video game design. Then again, I have never been into graphics and animation until this year.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted April 30, 2003 Just to say it, Art Institutes are NOT good schools, a few are, but most of them are bad. I know the Florida one is ok. But I give fair warning, most of them don't take slack, if you can't do the work, they dont give a fuck about you, if you keep paying, you can keep going, but the staffs arent that helpful unless you conform and do exactly as you're told. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 That part of it, but the degrees you earn from Full Sail don;t do jack to help you land a job in the game design field.... their tours hype you up, show you all kinds of crap to make you sign up for their ultra-high tuitons, then cut you adrift the minute you set foot in the door. A lot of the students there I saw were rich kids who thought they could go there and piss around rather than go to a *real* college, and have little idea of how the REAL world works. As far as the faculty went, it was freaking Winter Park, the snooty, ultra white-bread side of Orlando. From what I was told, it was split into two factions. There were some who actually gave two shits about what their students learned, but they were outnumbered by the uppercrust, those who made middle-to-high five-figure salaries who didn't care about anything but getting the next batch of suckers in the door for the next semester, so they can make more money. I had been subjected to both sides of that attitude when I worked there. If I sound bitter about that place, its because I am. But not bitter enough to be unable to see that place for what it is.
