Gameboy Advance SP

...because I can't find one to "test-drive" around Toronto. None of the stores have one on display to check out, and I don't want to go buy one to find out that I don't like the way it sits in my hands, etc.

All that said, I think the added bonuses of a backlit screen and the lithium [was it lithium?] battery are awesome. To never need AA batteries again (for at least one electronic gadget) would be a dream come true. :D

I bought a GBA SP the day they launched and have played it extensively since then. I would definitely recommend getting one, but you should know that it is not backlit, but is rather lit from the front. This can at times make things appear a bit washed out, but not to an extent where it's unplayable. I honestly don't even notice it anymore myself.

The lithium ion battery is a godsend, but you'll need to pack around the AC adapter (assuming you can find somewhere to plug it in) if you like to go out with your GBA a lot.

Overall, it's a wise investment if you play your GBA a lot, as I do.

How does the d-pad feel? Are motions easier to do on the SP compared to the normal GBA?

I like the new d-pad better, but the recessed buttons can be a pain when playing games that require you to push A+B simultaneously.

It's pretty much the way GBA was meant to be.

I bought the first Golden Sun this weekend and have been playing it on and off. I'm suprised anyone could play this game without the light.

Advance Wars has been dominating my SP play.

Is there a handheld game more fun than this?

How do the shoulder buttons feel? Are they at least comfortable where they are positioned?

The shoulder buttons aren't a problem for me, but your mileage may vary. FWIW, I have big hands and I have no trouble using them.

OK somebody give me a quick list of the RPG/Strategy games I must pick up once I gather the money to get me a GBA SP.

Golden Sun

Golden Sun 2

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance (When it comes out)

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle (When it comes out)

Tactics Ogre

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Aria of Sorrow (When it comes out)

That's all I can think of, right off the top of my head. You might also like the various MegaMan games (Bass, Zero).

As an aside, I love my GBA SP. It gets more time than any of my next gen systems. Also, I can't stand playing games on the PC. I just can't concentrate with all the other PC goodness going on.

Alright, I caved and bought one. I went to Game Centre here in TO and picked one up along with Pokemon Ruby & Breath of Fire II. I don't know why I ever had a doubt, this little system is one amazing piece of equipment! It's like having a SNES that's smaller than the palm of my hand! Now, I just gotta find me a used copy of Super SFII Turbo Revival!

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

I am itching for this one! Four more days!!

I wish they'd re-release the American SNES versions of Final Fantasy 2 & 3 on GBA. Chrono Trigger too! That would kick some serious ass! :D  :D

Good point. Though, I live and work right in the core of d/t. So I really don't drive my car that often. Saves gas & $$$. ;p
