Guest Downhome Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I just thought some of you might be interested, so tune in if you care. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
NYU Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 That segment kind of pissed me off, because they treated her death like it was a joke. It could have been handled a lot classier. I mean, it was like.... Shep: "Hyuk, hyuk, for all you rasslin fans, we have some entertaining news.....Miss Elizabeth is dead. Pro Wrestler Lex Luger is being investigated for drug charges. Now, in other news, a duck was hit in the head with a hailstone. And then flew away ! Ha ha ! Let's get to that quick !" I mean, jeezus, they spent more time on a duck getting in the head with a hailstone, instead of Miss Elizabeth and the unfortunate circumstances surrounding her death. Un-fuckin-believable.
Guest goodhelmet Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 you know, as tragic as elizabeth's death was, i can understand why the media treats wrestling "news" as jokes. until vinnie mac or the pro wrestling industry begins to take its own industry serious, why should any other organization or news outlet?
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Something tells me things were no different back in the early days of wrestling.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 you know, as tragic as elizabeth's death was, i can understand why the media treats wrestling "news" as jokes. until vinnie mac or the pro wrestling industry begins to take its own industry serious, why should any other organization or news outlet? Doesn't mean anything. The news companies are supposed to take any real news with seriousness. Then again, this IS Fox news. Should we expect class from a two bit news station?
Guest AndrewTS Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Every media outlet I've ever seen treats a wrestling death as a joke. So why does this surprise anyone?
Guest Choken One Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Owen WASN'T treated like Joke...It was headline news and people viewed it as a Tradegy...But all the others WERE.
Guest AndrewTS Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Owen WASN'T treated like Joke...It was headline news and people viewed it as a Tradegy...But all the others WERE. The pompous asshole from the Comedy Channel who has his own talk show treated it as a joke.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Whoa. I like Fox News even LESS now. I never thought that could happen.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Owen WASN'T treated like Joke...It was headline news and people viewed it as a Tradegy...But all the others WERE. The pompous asshole from the Comedy Channel who has his own talk show treated it as a joke. Which Pompous asshole?
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Kilborn. I believe he was still running on Comedy Central at the time, but if not, it was on his other shitty talk show.
Bored Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Owen WASN'T treated like Joke...It was headline news and people viewed it as a Tradegy...But all the others WERE. The pompous asshole from the Comedy Channel who has his own talk show treated it as a joke. Which Pompous asshole? The Daily Show IS a comedy news show so nothing is treated seriously nor should it be. Its just a spoof on the news so I wouldn't get worked up about it.
Guest Star Ocean 3 Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Wasn't that Kilborn who joked about Owen?
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Shep: "Hyuk, hyuk, for all you rasslin fans, we have some entertaining news.....Miss Elizabeth is dead. Pro Wrestler Lex Luger is being investigated for drug charges. Ok. Is this what Sheppard Smith said...or was it more like former manager Miss Elizabeth is dead, and Lex Luger is being investigated for drug charges. Right know there isn't much too say, and honestly it deserves just a small note on the newstations.
Guest Trivia247 Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Wasn't that Kilborn who joked about Owen? It was Killborn John Stewart probably wouldn't do it.
Guest Trivia247 Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 the report is just about to come on for me.
Guest Trivia247 Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 hmmm that wasn't really bad. he even says he'll follow up on it.
Guest Downhome Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I saw it, and in NO WAY did they joke about her death or the situation. He basicly just said what we've heard from various places like 1wrestling and the such, and that's it. There really isn't much more one can say about it right now.
Guest commie_050 Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 How did the Daily Show joke about Owen?

Should we expect class from a two bit news station? two bit news station?? lol You're just jealous because they're #1 and they happen to be spanking "reputable, we're LOSING THE WAR cuz it didn't end in 4 days!" organizations like CNN in the ratings EDIT
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 How did the Daily Show joke about Owen? They didn't. Kilborn was off the show by then. He (Kilborn) made the comments on his stupid late night talk show. IIRC, it was something like. "At a recent WWF event, the wrestler the Blue Blazer was killed. In other news, the white turtleneck was unharmed." Something like that.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 I asked about this a month or so ago, and someone told me that he also played "free falling" as a joke as well
Guest commie_050 Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 Wow Craig, if you're gonna make light of a tragedy, at least pick a better joke to do it with.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 I asked about this a month or so ago, and someone told me that he also played "free falling" as a joke as well That was a radio shock jock in Texas, IIRC. Kilborn just did the turtleneck joke.
