Me and my friend were talking about who had died, and I said I knew Ravishing Rick Rude had died, as well as Yokozuna, among others.

So what wrestlers (of recent years. You know, that we would actually recognize) have died (not necessarily in the ring). And how did they die?

I could not think of how Rude died.

Rude - Heart problems? (could also be drug-related)

Louie Spicoli - Drug-related

Owen Hart- Fall from ceiling of arena

Dino Bravo- Mob hit

Bobby Duncum Jr.- Drug-related

"Iron Mike" Dibiase- Died in the ring of heart failure

Terry Gordy- Heart failure (?)

Andre the Giant- Heart failure

Big John Studd- Hodgekin's disease(?)

Yokozuna- Heart failure(?)

That's about it for the more famous and/or sordid ones.

Rude had a heart attack.  The cancer rumour was something that started on the Newsboards, much like Sid having been killed in a car crash.

If you want to know about dead wrestlers, pick up "Tributes" by Dave Meltzer, it has biographies of a bunch of dead wrestlers.  It's good stuff.

Dino was involved in drug dealing and the mob killed him is what I heard. And how, when and why did Bertha kill hereself?

Plum Minako (sp?) first wrestler (may just be female wrestler) ever to die in Japan from wrestling injuries.

She took a Lyger bomb, it aggravated some former brain trauma, lead to bleeding in the brain and she died.

1. Bravo was killed because he was smuggling cigarettes, which was a BIG business in Canada and upset some "older Italian gentlemen"

2. Bubby Duncum Jr. died in the past few years according to several sources including Foley Is Good, although I never would have known the difference since the only WCW TV show I've watched in 10 years was the final Nitro.

I don't know that she killed herself for sure, that's just what I read at a website a while back and I couldn't find any other sites that listed any cause of death. Either way she died in July of 2001

the Von Erichs are truly in a class of their own when it comes to tragedy....

I heard daddy Von Erich (Fritz?) was a horrible father, and this played into it. Anyone know?

Gorilla died in 1999, not in 1997.  He was at Wrestlemania XV.
