Guest Rob Van Dam Report post Posted May 3, 2003 I'm looking to buy a baseball game, anybody have high heat baseball 2004, if so how is it. Like is hitting and pitching pretty easy. Will I be able to put it in and have fun playing it? and stuff like that. So far I've played World Series and All Star. World Series graphics I didn't like, reminded me of playing MLB 99 for ps1 All Star I enjoyed but there were a few things I didn't like (throwing to bases is a bitch, having to change the options in each game I play, making a team with my favorite players and not being able to do it) How is MVP baseball? any other info would be appreciated. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 3, 2003 *Whistles* Seriously, I'd pick High Heat up. I haven't tried MVP yet.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 4, 2003 World Series Baseball for X-Box has excellent graphics. I don't bother getting games on PS2 if they're available on other consoles, so I can't comment on the PS2's graphics. The gameplay is where WSB has it all over everyone else, IMO, including the High Heat series, which boasts excellent gameplay of its own. MVP Baseball is Triple Play under a new name, and that franchise has sucked for a long time, so I'd avoid it. One of these days, I'd like to write a WSB review for the site. Guest goar Report post Posted May 7, 2003 High Heat is good, gameplay is a little too simple. Except baserunning. I've never been able to get that down in any HH game. MVP was actually very cool. Franchise mode has goals that you need to achieve within ten years, and they vary by team. Pitching interface is very unique and realistic. That makes it hard to hit, but that's what's realistic about it. There aren't very many games that have Randy Johnson and Pedro so dominant you can actually strike out 10-12 in a game. Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 My opinion: I had High Heat 2003 and I LOVED It, it was seriously the best baseball sim game ever. The gameplay was top notch and realistic even if the graphics were a little lacking and there wasnt a deep franchise mode. I rented High Heat 2004 and I didnt like it as much. The graphics are better, but the gameplay seemed less smooth to me and there were a couple bugs with the roster. I had heard praise for World Series Baseball but none of the blockbusters had it. So I took a chance and bought it sight unseen. And I really like it. The gameplay is really good, and I especially like pitching. Hitting is a little difficult because I was used to pitcher's view while hitting and no cursor from High Heat, but there is a "timed hitting" option in World Series that is very similar, although I still dont like regular hitter view. The options and modes are really deep too. I just want to play a season for now, but eventually I'll dig into the Franchise which seems like lots of fun. Also roster managenet is excellent with a minor leagues, so you can call up players like they are in real life and easily remove or add players without making akward trades. So I'd reccomend World Series. This is for PS2, and for the record I really like the graphics. Then again to me, graphics are insignificant to me (hence my love for High Heat 2003), because if the game doesnt play well then graphics mean shit. I havent played MVP, and never liked the All Star series but if graphics are really important to you, you might want to go for one of those 2.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted May 8, 2003 My problem with this year's High Heat was the game play. I mean, even if the guy totally missed the ball, he still hit it. Like a righthand batter swings at the bottom right corner, yet I'm throwing top left, so I naturally should get a strike. Nope, Mr. Nobody on the team gets a damned homerun. I'd just like to add that MVP is NOT Triple Play. I hate to admit it, but they actually fixed it up. Not only that, but I find that MVP and WS are pretty much on the same grade. Only difference is, I'll pick up MVP for the better pitching controls. WS I couldn't tell where the fuck the ball was going. Although WS has the better batting options. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Agreed with Triple Play being complete crap. But MVP is vastly superior to it. I loved it (actually takes a little skill to hit and pitch), and if the game were four players and allowed co-op team playing, I'd buy it. As it is, I'm waiting for next years release. Considering there is supposed to be online play added to next year's version, I'm hoping that'll it go. You know, for the next sports game (that everyone agrees is the best) that has good online capabilities, why don't we throw tourney (or even season) to see who in TSM is the best at that sports game?
