The person who made this (not sent it, but made it) makes me completely and utterly sick to my stomach. It is forceful religious messages like this that cause two teenage Wiccans girls to kill themselves because of the oppression they felt. IT is ideals like that that have America about ready to use Nuclear F'ing Weapons to try to deter a war that scientists are starting to prove came from an attack on America that was allowed by the American Government. It is blind hatred of anything non-Christian that makes me sick.

I do not hate Christians/Christianity/ so on and so forth. Most of my friends are Christian-faith based. Their churches are nice, filled with nice people saying nice things. This is not nice. This is an attack on many personal beliefs I hold dear. North America holds the belief of free speech. This email is free speech. My attack upon it is also.

=20     Dear Concerned Student:=20     I am not allowed in schools.=20     Sincerely,=20     God=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained =

she didn't want any prayer in our schools.=20     And we said, OK...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the =

Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love =

your neighbors yourself,"=20     And we said, OK...=20     =

------------------------------------------------------------------------ =     Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they =

misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we =

might damage their self-esteem. And we said, an expert should know what =

he's talking about so we won't spank them anymore...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our =

children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said no =

faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave =

because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be =

sued.=20     And we accepted their reasoning...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they =

want, and they won't even have to tell their parents.=20     And we said, that's a grand idea...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and =

they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they =

want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to =

tell their parents they got them at school.=20     And we said, that's another great idea...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what =

we do in private as long as we do our jobs. And we said, it doesn't =

matter what anybody, including the President, does in private as long as =

we have jobs and the economy is good...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published =

pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them =

available on the Internet.=20     And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies =

that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record =

music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic =

themes...=20     And we said, it's just entertainment and it has no adverse effect =

and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead...=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why =

they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill =

strangers, classmates or even themselves.=20     =

-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

=20     Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could =

figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...=20     "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"=20

If this woman somehow finds this here, I would like her to know that people like her hurt the country she lives in, not helps it. Blind fanaticism helps no one, and I consider this a personal attack. I would never, repeat NEVER want your religion forced on me, or mine forced on you. You, are a waste of space.

Well, I have no problem with free speech. It is, after all, guaranteed in the Constitution.

However, I *do* have a problem when people like the person who made that email publish half-truths and blatant, disgusting falsehoods that THEY defend as free speech.

Well, like you Ace, I too have no problem with free speech. The chick's got the right to say that and I don't blame her. But, yes, I do believe that forcing a religion upon someone is wrong. It goes against free will.

That's all I've got to say. So chill, Annie or Allison (that's a crazy name.... :)  ) because you ain't alone.

Meh, Freedom of Speech is a point people take upon themselves to over-use, or to use just to attack on people with half assed ideas. But Freedom of Speech and the Consitution only goes so far. Anyways, I'm agnostic leaning towards Atheist... ever week my parents make me go to church (except for today I slept in, and my dad just gave up) and make me go to Religious Ed. It's the worst thing my parents could do for me. It's bullshit.

As I've said before, this is America, Home of the Brainwashed.

What the hell ever.

Freedom of speech is a crutch right now that the extremists (both right and left wing) use to bash people they don't like.  It doesn't exist for the people that really need it.

And saying that a person's faith is bullsh*t is just that.  Bullsh*t.

I am not a fan of right wing religious extremists, but I take my faith very seriously, and when someone expresses an opinion, whether its associated with their faith or not, I listen very carefully.  As a Christian, I have no freedome of frickin' speech.  I can't even discuss God (whatever that may be) in my school without a stern academic talking to, not to mention that academia basically denies any viable existence of God consistently.

Sorry, but I get worked up about religious/ faith conversations.  People who are not Xtian automatically assume that Xtians are trying to force their faith on them, when really we're pissed off that we aren't allowed to worship without constant unmerited criticism and prejudice, which goes AGAINST the whole idea of free speech.  I don't necessarily agree with all of the points in the E-mail, but I'm not gonna get pissed at it because our society is definately degenerating in some areas, and if I feel as a Christian I have some insight into why, I'm gonna say it and you can kiss my ass if you disagree because that's the way I see it.  You see it differently, great, I can't hate you for that either.  I just don't understand why people always use faith as a bashing tool.  People of faith are the most oppressed people in the world for reasons that are so biased it's not even funny.  What it boils down to is- we're all people, all human beings (well... except maybe Jay Dawg...) and only by interacting with each other do we really learn what its like to live.  All that political BS is just the crust of the pie.  So please don't faith bash.  It's hypocritical.  Nobody's forcing anything on anyone, except for the people who feel they must tell people of faith how to live by forcing laws and rules on them that go against their particular beliefs.  THAT is forcing something on someone.

Agreed - schools lean toward the liberal far more than they should.

Once you get out into the real world, however, people are generally much more accepting of religious witnessing etc in public. Granted, most people consider it an annoyance, but there's actually case law citing the protection of those passing out tracts and such.

I just think this particular email was in particularly bad taste, and embraces something other than "tolerance." The tone of the email, along with several items, seem to embrace the idea that everyone should live by Christian tenets. That's what bothers me and, I'd wager, Annie E.

Not that I want to speak for her.

What "real world" are you talking about?

I won't even begin to tell you how people treat me once they find out I'm a Xtian.  And that's only when they ask me, or it comes up in conversation.

My atheist friends always feel the need to prove to me that Christianity is wrong, stupid, hypocritical, and a waste of time.  And these are people who don't understand my particular faith, as admitted by their own mouths.

The issues voiced by the writer of the e-mail do embrace the idea that everyone should live by "Christian" ideals.  And you know what, more power to her.  Because atheists love to fight for their ideals.  I mean shoot, if I got mad at every group who believed that everyone should live by their ideals, I would be pissed at nearly EVERYONE in the entire world.  But for some reason, Christians/ people of faith are singled out as the bad guys.  Its a double standard.

Republicans, Democrats, Old people, druggies, health nuts, academics, skinheads, libertarians, northeners, southerners, military and ex-military, parents- I've met people in every group who believe that their ideals should be embraced by everyone.  But who are always come down against?  The people of faith.  "Oh, you abide by Christian values, you make me so sick.  You're Muslim, you must want me to wear a veil over my head, you're so oppressive.  You're Hindu, you believe in sacred cows, you're weird."  And it's hypocritical and a double standard!  And it pisses ME off.  Once again, the political freedom of speech BS is just that... BS.  It has nothing to do with people's feelings.  It has to do with a nationwide oppression of faith.  Hell, Americans as a whole are some of the most intolerant people as far as foreign affairs are concerned.  It's just plain ludicrous.  That's it.  If you don't like Christianity, whatever, you can believe whatever you want to believe.  But don't beat around the bush about not liking people who stand up for their ideals and beliefs.

I think religions are neat.  That said, it ain't for me, but whatever a person needs to get through the night is fine by me.  People definitely need to chill out the world over though.

I'm a Christian. I'm not afraid to say it, but I don't unless people ask me. Frankly, X is right.

But, for the love of God, let's leave religion off these boards.
