They have a record of 3-25, 28 games into the season and they're 15.5 games out of first place. And the next worse team has 6 more wins then they do. They've hit 14 home runs in those 28 games. They're on a pace to win 18 games. Their best player (Higginson) is batting a .222 (3 others are higher but with very few at bats) Any players who show a hint of talent they get rid off... Luiz (sp) and Juan Gonzalas, Rob Fick, and Jeff Weaver. They've got Dean Palmer under a $10 million a year deal and he's bating about .120 as a DH. And he hasn't been healthy since he signed. Their main pitcher (M Maroth) set the record for most loses in April after going 0-6, and he would have gone 0-7 (which he is now), but his game was rained out. Funny how the same guy owns the Detroit Redwings. You'd think someone that could assemble such a team could put together a baseball team that could go .500 Will they go on to be the worst ever? I say yes EDIT: Should read "worst ever" in the title...not "Worst of ever"

And they won championships in 68 and 84. I'd call them the worst current out of the majors, but far from all time.

Trammel should start offering anybody to get somebody like Prince Fielder (Cecil's son) or they could try to find a way to dump Palmer (to some team like the Rockies, where he could hit .200 and hit 30 home runs) for somebody else. and don't fire Trammel and Gibson. That's like blowing up the leaky dam to stop the flood.

After every game he plays he goes on about how bad his shoulder is. That's what they said on ESPN. Trammel didn't want Maroth to the first pitcher to lose 7 in one month. Really doesn't matter. Will Maroth lose 20 games?, or will he get an injury at around 17 loses. I'd like to see it. Some great pitchers like Niekro have lost 20.

I guess that's not reflected on Baseball Mogul 2004. Palmer's stats there: 143 games, 129 for 547 (.236), .336 OBS, 19 doubles, 2 triples, 41 home runs, 68 walks, 167 strikeouts, 13 stolen bases (second best on my team), 90 runs, 94 RBIs. Considering he's on my Rockies team and he plays in Coors Field, his HR number is useful. Then again, this is the same team and the same game where AJ Hinch hit 27 homers and Olmedo Saenz hit 28 homers.

I'd say right now, yes, they are in the bottom 5 or 10 of all American major pro sports teams. And at the rate they're going, they could challenge to be the worst team at least since 1900. The major league record for losses in a season since 1900 is 120, by the 1962 New York Mets...the Tigers are on pace for a staggering 144 losses, which would break even the all-time major league record of 134, set by the Cleveland Spiders in 1899.

Mike Maroth is the best 0-7 pitcher I've ever seen. They'll lose 110-115 games, but I think the Mets and Spiders were worse. At least this team has slight potential.

They wont move the fences in a lot because the team doesn't have any power..so they think it will help to leave them out there and let their pitching staff have a bit of advantage..but their staff sucks as well and instead of giving up 4 or 5 home runs a game they are giving up a mess load of extra basehits that pile up faster than the homers do. The popular question right now..which will be greater: Detroit Tiger Losses or New York Yankee Wins? At this point, I have to say Tiger losses since I easily see them losing 125 games, and if the Yankees win more than 115 I would be shocked. Maroth is a decent pitcher though..had a no hitter on the orioles through 7 innings vs the Orioles earlier this week..and the Os got to him and the bullpen to score 6 and eventually win the game 6-3..

Tiger Stadium was cavernous in center field and the extreme alleys, but it was easily reachable anywhere else. Factor in the upper-deck overhang, and it was easy to jack a ball out of the yard, especially for left-handers who could utilize the cozy right-field fence. I think the fences were moved in at Comerica this year, but it doesn't seem to be helping the Tigers. It's fine to have a stadium with deep fences that doesn't yield a lot of homers, but you have to build your team around it. Solid pitching, good contact hitting, and good team speed are required to take advantage of a homer-unfriendly park. The Tigers have none of those traits.
