Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Kevin Kay, TNN's executive vice president of programming, recently told a media trade journal that WWE TV ratings will increase now that the war is over. "Let's face it, during a war, people are going to watch the news. Something like the WWE might not be as important. But coming out of the war, it's back to business as usual." Kay seemed to ignore the fact that the war was not very long, and that WWE TV ratings were struggling long before the war started. Credit: PWTorch.com Of course, this guy probably also thinks a name like Spike TV is a good idea. Nice to see TNN has their heads in the sand right next to Vince and Linda's. Guest buffybeast Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Kay seemed to ignore the fact that the war was not very long, and that WWE TV ratings were struggling long before the war started. This statement is key. It wasn't as if WWE RAW was pulling in 6's in the ratings, the war came, and the numbers dropped to the 3's. Unless Vince has already told this guy that he plans to fire Steph and Trips from creative, I can't see how the ratings will increase soon.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Plus, didn't ratings for some shows GO UP because people were sick of wall to wall coverage? I know I was. I'm not talking about RAW here, just TV in general.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 4, 2003 With Increased interest of course Buffy... Simple as that...THAT is how they are going to raise... They have the tools...We're seeing a slow rise...Not dramatic mind you... I will put my foot in my mouth and say that come week before Bad Blood...Raw will draw a 4.3. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted May 4, 2003 A lot of fans in the military prefer it as an "escape." So of course Vince has Steiner and Nowinski debating the war and the French (Canadian--SHHHH!) heels to remind us about it.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Wait...ratings sucked before the war. Is he saying that Saddam was behind the entire thing? And no that he's out of power ratings will rise?

Maybe if WWE succeeds and captures that coveted senior citizen demographic they obviously are after.
Guest buffybeast Report post Posted May 4, 2003 A lot of fans in the military prefer it as an "escape." As soon as our boys and girls come back and see how shitty WWE programming has become they will turn it off. Their interest can hold but only so long. Remember, the ratings traditionally decrease during the summer months.

Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted May 4, 2003 The TNN Execs probably made that statement before they heard about the big Nash/HHH and Brock/Show double main event.
Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Actually, TNN just has RAW. And they have Bill Goldberg fresh in. Ditto for Kevin Nash(not saying he is a draw but since the Clique 20 minute circle jerk to open RAW, the rating has gone from 3.4 to 3.8 to 3.9). And Steve Austin in a new(old role). Every mark I tallk to now is interested in the RAW brand and not Smackdown. You guys do know what this means, right? If the RAW rating continues to rise with HHH, Nash, Jericho. and Goldberg as the top guys, and if the RAW PPV outdraws the Smackdown PPV, it will just reassure Vince that HHH is the right choice for top guy. And be very afraid if Judgment Day outdraws Backlash.

Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Their interest can hold but only so long. Remember, the ratings traditionally decrease during the summer months. Exactly. Come Summer, I'll be out Monday and Thursday nights. I used to stay in on Monday and Wednesday/Thursday nights for Nitro and Thunder back in the day, and for Raw when it was good, but fuck it. I'm getting drunk, stoned, staring at paint dry. It's better than the product.
Guest jester Report post Posted May 4, 2003 The TNN Execs probably made that statement before they heard about the big Nash/HHH and Brock/Show double main event. If he had, the statement would have gone something like this: "Let's face it, during a war, people are going to watch the news," said Kevin Kay, TNN's executive vice president of programming. "Something like the WWE might not be as important. But coming out of the war, it's back to business as--Judgment Day will have Brock/Show and HHH/Nash? Oh Jesus Christ. That's it. We're replacing wrestling with a George Forman Grille infomercial."
