Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted May 4, 2003 I am not sure if this question would be better placed in "technology" so if it should be moved, I am sure the necessary folks will do so. Anyways..... We just bought some great surround sound dolby digital/dts/pro logic II/etc......reciever with the speaker set. Now, I know a lot of the audio on dvds is built specially for these kind of audio systems and will reflect when you play the dvd such as having the 3-D sound affect according to what part of your screen certain noises are happening will correlate of which speaker the noise comes from etc......Now, if you just play a regular dvd with plain audio(regular 2 speaker audio) does that mean the sound will only come out of 2 speakers, or does it mean it still comes out of all 5 speakers, it just isn't decoded to do all the fancy stuff mentioned above? Also, if I play a dvd with regular audio, is it best to just switch the 5.1 mode off and go to 2ch mode? I could very well figure this out for myself by just listening, but I am curious what all of you with these systems do.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 4, 2003 I'm not completely sure, but someone else will correct if i'm mistaken. If it has none 5.1 surround sound(rare now) it'll go through all the speakers but without the 5.1 effect. Mono or Stereo will just go on the front speakers. My main DVD player is always running on 5.1 and my none 5.1 Discs are fine. My secondary player runs on faux 5.1 surround sound. I have the six speakers and my reciever is 5.1, but my player can't be connected to it. The sound is on all the speakers but there's no 5.1 seperation.
