Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Rob Zombie is set to write and direct a sequel to his horror film House of 1000 Corpses for Lions Gate Films, reports Variety. The film is expected to start shooting in the fall for an April release, a year after the first film. The original has grossed $11 million domestically in its first month of release. "We are looking forward to releasing the next chapter in the series wide next April, which will be ideally positioned to outperform the original and hopefully will confirm it as a franchise for the company," said Lions Gate. House of 1000 Corpses, which stars Sig Haig, Bill Mosley, Karen Black, Sherri Moon and Chris Hardwick, follows two young couples on a misguided tour onto the backroads of America, in search of a local legend known as Dr. Satan, who are set upon by a bizarre family of psychotics. Haig, Black, Moon and Mosley will return for the sequel.
Guest mach7 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 They're letting him do a sequel? Ugh... "Hey! Even if your movie sucks the bag, we'll still sign you up for a sequel and maybe even two prequels. Oh, don't worry, it's okay because you're -insert-random-idiot-turned-wannabe-filmmaker-here-, and you're hip with the kids these days! All the nu-metalheads and "gothics" will shell out their hard earned cash from working at their local gas station (or prissy clothing store in the goth case) to see this movie and they'll LIKE it because we all know that the winning trend these days is to take a steaming pile of horse dung and disguise it as "film"... hey, it worked for James Cameron.." Please, dear God of the movies, let this fall through!! LET THIS FALL THROUGH!!!
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I hope it's as painfully bad and very unscary like the first one.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted May 8, 2003 You haven't heard this by now? It was basicly the entire plan all along even when he started the first one to do a sequel. There is apparently no shame in Hollywood.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 8, 2003 1001 Corpses? I haven't even seen the first one yet (and apparently I'm not missing anything)... why can't Lion's Gate just pick up the distribution on... I dunno... 2001 Maniacs?
Guest Mole Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Is the first really that bad?
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Is the first really that bad? 2000 Maniacs? No, it's excellent, probably the "best" Herschell Gordon Lewis film (although I haven't seen his 1970's political comedy Year of the Yahoo, which is not only supposed to be really funny and well-done, but remains Lewis' favorite work). Which is why I want to see the sequel/remake, despite hearing oscillating reviews on Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat. OH, you're talking about House of 1000 Corpses... Guest Blue Bacchus Report post Posted May 8, 2003 It was ok. Something you'd catch on cable if nothing else was on but not theater or rental worthy.

Guest raptor Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Well, House of 1,000 Corpses made 11 Million of a 10 Million budget (including marketing). That qualifies it as a success, sadly. Thus if they keep the budget the same, and the audience doesn't fluctuate, then it'll be a profitable franchise, and we'll be subjected to House of 1,002 Corpses: Electric Boogaloo soon enough. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 8, 2003 That original story has been updated. Check out the quotes in the new one.... Rob Zombie is set to write and direct a sequel to his highly successful horror film House of 1000 Corpses, for Lions Gate Films, it was announced today by Mike Paseornek, Lions Gate President of Production. The original film has grossed over $11 million at the domestic box office in its first month of release and has proven to be an extremely profitable acquisition for Lions Gate. The Firm's Beau Flynn will produce the sequel, along with Zombie's long time manager Andy Gould, also of The Firm. Production will be overseen by Mike Paseornek on behalf of the studio. The deal was negotiated by Peter Block, Jason Constantine and Tom Ortenberg on behalf of Lions Gate, and by Jeffrey Light on behalf of Zombie and Gould. The film is aiming for a Fall start and an April 2004 release, to coincide with the one year anniversary of the original. "With 'House of 1000 Corpses,' Rob Zombie has established himself as a filmmaker with a passionate artistic vision as well as an eye towards the pop culture zeitgeist, judging from the cult status the film is quickly achieving," said Paseornek. Tom Ortenberg, President of Lions Gate Film Releasing, added, "We felt Zombie had captured something distinctive with this picture, and we are thrilled that audiences have responded similarly. We are aiming to release the next chapter in the series next Spring and, with its built-in audience base, it will be well positioned to outperform the original and become a potential franchise for the company." "I knew Lions Gate was the perfect home for 'House of 1000 Corpses' based on their successful track record with controversial films, and the success that they have had with 'Corpses' definitely proves that fact," said Zombie. "Their unrivaled marketing and distribution expertise has helped make my film debut a hit and I am dying to get back behind the camera to deliver a sequel which will blow away the original." House of 1000 Corpses follows two young couples who take a misguided tour onto the back roads of America in search of a local legend known as Dr. Satan. Lost and stranded, they are set upon by a bizarre family of psychotics. Murder, cannibalism and satanic rituals are just a few of the 1000+ horrors that await. Written and directed by Zombie, making his feature film debut, the film stars cult favorites Sid Haig, Bill Mosley and Karen Black, along with newcomers Sheri Moon and Chris Hardwick. Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I'm stoked! I loved the first one since it was a refreshing change from the mundane horror flicks from the past 10 years. The sequel will be better since I'm sure they'll fill in some holes.

Guest RedJed Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I'm dumbfounded here.......Lions Gate is acting like the film tenfolded a profit or something with the verbal blowjob to the films success. *confused* It thus far has only given all parties involved a total 1 million profit and they get THIS excited to the point where they already announce a sequal? WTF......makes no sense really to me. Maybe there was something in the contract of Zombies that guarantees a sequal if the film made ANY sort of profit whatsoever? Then again any other Lions Gate film probably have never broke making 10 million in the theaters (I would think Rules of Attraction did but maybe not) so I could see why this would be a big deal to them if that was the case. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I would understand it completely if they did a direct to video sequel. But another theatrical release? Don't get that at all.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I would understand it completely if they did a direct to video sequel. But another theatrical release? Don't get that at all. There's money in the direct-to-video market. I can see him doing well there.
