Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I was going to do number three on hate crimes, but this one can wait. Over the past 6 years we have seen our foreign policy become the key to presidential duties. There have been many peace talks between the PLO and Israel. There have been two full out wars. There have been threats from other nations. There have been threats to other nations. A global protest to a war before the first bullet was shot. The problem comes down to what our foreign policy really is. Should our foreign policy be “Moral Values” of the world that bush is asking for. Or people to admit it is “Protecting US Interest and Security”. Or, should it be “aggressive policy to not take any bullshit from nations that try to harm us” Lastly, should it be about “Isolation”. Personally, I think our foreign policy should admit it is protecting US Interest short or long term. It comes off hypercritical to have Moral Values because… 1: We gave some nations money to build chemical plants (Bechtel, a group Sec of Defense Runfeld used to be CEO of) with these plants making weapons of mass destruction on Nations like Iran and own people. 2: We supported dictatorship nations because they weren’t communist, even though we complained of the Communist governments to be brutal dictators. 3: We are the only nation to use a Nuclear weapon. Not saying it wasn’t needed in that war. But we have used it and tell others not to make it. 4: Depleted Uranium Bombs are weapons of mass destruction. So how can you complain of another nation using such a thing? 5: The OSS and the CIA took over at least 4 or 5 different governments in the last 50 years. Then pretend like nothing happened. But it blew up in their face with the Bay of Pigs. 6: In 1993, did nothing to denounce or anything when 1 million people were killed for having a different religion as another group in Africa. God forbid we even so much as say that was horrific. 7: Lastly, a government can not go on the moral ground when said leaders(Both Dems and Reps) have lied, been alcoholics, used drugs, cheated on spouses, been known bigots, ignorant to the cries of a nation until a major event happened, and blamed fucking NUNS for getting raped and killed? Aggressive foreign policy does not work in this day in age because it will have only one effect: Global War. The past proves it and history always repeats itself. Even though our domestic issues are important right now, I believe that being an isolated nation will hurt the world because I believe this country and can help other nations. Weather for a price or in kindness, because the only way to curve dictators from being in power is to not make the nation third world. Then when the nation grows, a new market is born for this nation.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Personally, I think our foreign policy should admit it is protecting US Interest short or long term. How pointless. All that would do would be stating the obvious, no matter which country declared it. The US and others might be philanthropic around the world, but countries, like people, inevitably act in their own self-interest. There are strategic as well as philosophical reasons for having allies. Every country's foreign policy protects its interests. I don't think our foreign policy needs to change. If a bunch of fuckheaded terrorists in a backwards, godforsaken part of the world don't like it, that's just too goddamn bad. We should not change the way we do things because a few people might decide to attack us. We're Americans; we're not afraid of them.
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I go with the "Dont fuck with us" approach. We seen isolationism doesnt work and ignoring the tryants and terrorists of the world doesnt work. If it means dismantling tyranic dictatorships that support, fund and harbor terrorist interests than so be it. Your either with us, or against us...
