Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Pain is an extreamly powerful force. It's easy to say it's possable to do the schedule without the painkillers but until you've experienced pain at it's most extreme one can't really comment. Some wrestlers are obviously in more pain than others. Some are obviously mentally tougher. You have to take each case on an individual basis. Hopefully, one would get out of the profession before the pain gets too bad. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Nice thoughts by Russo, I must admit. I don't know a lot of what he does when he is in the driver's seat, but I like what he wrote here. Whether or not he is being hypocritical isn't the issue. I believe he's right. At the end of the day, no matter how demanding a schedule is--even if you are an icon--remember you have a family. Will pro-wrestling ever not be a dirty word?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Why exactly should it be clean? Storm doesn't take steroids, but I believe he has taken pain killers... how can you not?
Guest Max Danger Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Why exactly should it be clean? Storm doesn't take steroids, but I believe he has taken pain killers... how can you not? I'm not saying it should be clean. If used correctly, painkillers aren't a bad thing. I was just thinking that I had read somewhere(most likely one of his commentaries) that Lance didn't use painkillers. He just let his body heal itself. Could be wrong though. I dunno. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Oops, I meant the clean thing in regards to "Will pro-wrestling ever not be a dirty word?" - wrestling is a very down and dirty profession. Anyone willing to take abuse like that on a continual basis ain't generally right in the head. As for the painkillers - I can't imagine him not using them on some basis. Guest Max Danger Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Ah, ok. Yeah, wrestling will always be a dirty word. Why do you think Vince changed it to "sports entertainment"? And the mental status of a wrestler, well, like you said, isn't very stable to begin with. But, yeah, I don't see how he hasn't popped in an aspirin from time to time, though Lance hasn't exactly had a major injury. So maybe he hasn't had to. His style isn't really high-impact, especially now in the WWE.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 10, 2003 I think Vince changed it to Sports Entertainment to get out of dealing with athletic commissions... Oh, and to annoy the hell outta me.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted May 10, 2003 I believe it's possable that Lance hasn't taken any painkillers if he says so. Why? Because His comments about not taking roids seem to be true and give him credability. I haven't noticed any signs of use at all.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Hmm, after further research I've stumbled upon this. I’ve been rather outspoken when it comes to my views against the use of painkillers. I go as far as to try and avoid Tylenol for headaches. I vehemently believe taking any kind of drug to allow you to do something your body is telling you not to do, (that’s what pain is designed for) is a poor choice and will only make matters worse. There ya go... Or there I go...
thuganomics 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2003 Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be that Lance Storm is in a locker room leader position to solve many of these problems. And in Vince McMahon's defense (even though I hate defending him), Road Dogg, Brian Lawler, and Eddie Guerrero were all released because of substance abuse issues. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 11, 2003 Yeah (because they wanted to get rid of them).
