Ai - why no oscar nominations?

Guest The Son of Sting

I saw the film for the first time yesterday on DVD and thought it was one of the most amazing films i have seen for a long time, mainly due to a stunning performance from Haley Joel Osemet. I cant see how his performace was passed up for "best actor", and Jude Law for "best supporting". I would of also wanted to see John Williams get a nod for best soundtrack and Rick Baker for effects. Why was the film so crimanly ignored at the oscars or any awards this year for that matter. Anyone else agree?

I'm gonna guess.....because it didn't deserve it!

Seriously.  It might have been decent if they had ended the damn thing 20 minutes earlier.  That ending ruined the entire picture for me.

I think it would've if Kubrick was alive to direct it. Speilberg did better with it then i figured but it's a type of movie that Speilberg isn't use to. I believe Kubrick would've handled it much better.

I really can't complain about the nominations this year.  For once there isn't something that blows that got nominated.

MEMENTO should have won best picture from what I've seen so far.  LOTR was good but not Best Picture material, I haven't seen Beautiful Mind or Training Day (I just picked up this DVD today, though), and the other stuff like Gosford Park looks like crap.

As for AI, VERY few people I know who saw it liked it much.  That didn't help its Oscar chances, as dramas are the default Oscar favorites and sci-fi films, or semi sci-fi films, are barely even nominated in serious categories.

Training Day was good for Denzel Washington only.

I dissagree, Denzels performance was one of the bests i seen, but its not what was only good with the movie, Ethan Hawke did a good job, and it was very intense, you didnt know what was gonna happen, and it had you on the edge of your seat.

Lord of The Rings bored me to tears.

Hmmmm a decent movie doesn't get nominated (AI) but yet a shitty movie (Moulin Rouge) gets eight?

Doesn't matter, all award shows are rigged

Hey, I absolutely hated AI, but really liked Moulin Rouge.  It's all a matter of preference and opinion, people.

AI sucked the proverbial cock (that is, since it was 20 minutes longer than it should have been). Moulin Rouge sucked the proverbial anus. Neither should have been made. Poor Ewan McGregor...

Jude Law MADE AI enjoyable when he was in it. And Teddy owned all...

The Spielberg happy ending forced onto AI really spoilt it.

Moulin Rouge was great.

Memento should have been nominated.

But some of you are crazy. Lord of the Rings WAS the best film of the year, and will, over time, be realized for the true classic that it is.

The movie and the Book are vastly over rated and I don't see how Moulin Rouge got Nominated,  I can accept the Visuals/Art awards  but not Acting and Movie noms.

It just means you didn't like those movies.  Sorry, cuz I loved them.  Once again, it's all a matter of preference and opinion in liking movies.  (Except for the Oscars, which is all about popularity and politics.)

AI was flawed but interesting, it was uneven and mawkish but at the same time quite powerful. This was mostly due to one of the best performances i can remember seeing from such a young lead. The last twenty minutes were absolutely awful though.
