Guest Jimmy Beard

as caboose did a greatest five songs, which i believe is nearly impossible to comprehend how about five greatest albums my list is as follows, obviously not in any order becuase that would be hard too

Definitely Maybe - Oasis

London Calling - Clash

Bat out of hell - Meatloaf

Sgt Peppers - The Beatles

"Doolittle" - Pixies

"London Calling" - The Clash

"Led Zeppelin III" - Led Zeppelin

"Revolver" - Beatles

"bloodsugarsexmagik" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Probably not my list, actually... I didn't really have time to think about it. "Velvet Underground & Nico" and "Achtung Baby" and about 30 others are really close... I dunno, maybe later I'll think about it more.

Given that no one person on this board--or even all of us collectively--has heard every album ever recorded, it should suffice to say that the "5 greatest of all time" designation is unofficial. I'd amend it to say "my five favorite of all time as of this date" because it should shift on a fairly regular basis if you listen to a lot of music. My own list has been posted here on more than one occasion, so I'm not going to bore you by posting it again. In its stead will be a list of the five best albums that I've gotten free from the library in the last two months. Here goes:

5. Dusty Springfield- Dusty In Memphis

4. Various Artists- The Return of the Grievous Angel: A Tribute to Gram Parsons

3. Van Morrisson- Astral Weeks

2. Shuggie Otis- Inspiration Information

1. Stevie Wonder- Talking Book

Obviously a 'greatest ever' list is truly impossible, and so here is my top five, no doubt posted elsewhere but then, not doing or saying anything new is my gimmick.

And in no order -

1. The Queen is dead by The Smiths

2. Stag by Melvins

3. I Get Wet by Andrew WK (duh)

4. Locust Abortion Technician by The Butthole Surfers

5. Group Sounds by Rocket From The Crypt

Now, I think it's fair to say the first three listed are not going to change, the other two are on/off because I can never decide on which surfers release to put up there, and I'm betting as soon as I get my hands on more Residents and Sparks they would usher out RFTC. Thing is, I just haven't heard enough of either of them to choose one release.

As of yet I've only got my hands on the newer Sparks stuff as well as the comp in my sig (which is absolutely fucking tremendous, however it doesn't count) and whilst 'Balls' and 'Lil' Beethoven' are damn good they don't hold up to tracks like 'This town...' 'Something for the Girl with Everything' and 'Happy Hunting Ground'.

With the Residents, I'm gonna have to mail order it all, 'Demons Dance Alone' and 'Roadworms' are true greatness but many recommend 'Duck Stab' and they seem like the sort of band who couldn't do a bad song if they wanted to. Other faves that don't count are

Morrissey ' 'beethoven was deaf' (live)

Butthole Surfers 'Butthole Surfers/Live PCPPEP'

Thin Lizzy 'Live and dangerous'

And I feel I have to mention this one;

Beck - Sea Change

Banky. Banky, no. Forget everything I've ever said about you. Forget everything you've ever said about me. Forget that we've ever interacted. Pretend that I'm an outspoken newcomer...an obnoxious newbie with an iron will and a heart of gold. Better yet, let's imagine that I'm on your Christmas card list. Last year you sent me this darling Hallmark with two young bespectacled girls around an elaborately decorated tree, their faces all alight with the promises of Christmas morning. It was signed "Merry Christmas, Kinetic. Hope your holiday is as magical as mine promises to be. Say hello to Emily for me. Don't drink too much egg nog (nudge, nudge). Happy Holidays, Banky." I put it on my mantle. But, please please please...listen to something else. It's not a good album. It really isn't.

Guest My Eyebrow is on fire

5) Ice Cube - Death Certificate: A funky lesson in how corny the savage white man can be.

4) Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral: A funky lesson in how to go insane and kill yourself.

3) Counting Crows - August and Everything After: Beautiful album, even if the lead singer just bitches about such and such woman every fucking song.

2) Dr. Dre - The Chronic: A funky lesson in how to become a societal parasite.

1) NWA - Efil4zaggin New Edition - They added 100 miles are runnin EP, thus making it the greatest Gangsta Rap LP ever. An hour + of degrading women, shooting random people, complaining about racial discrimination, and the funniest skits ever recorded.
