First time wwf or wcw mentioned each other

Recommended Posts

Guest hockeytown9321

Does anyone know when the first time WWF and WCW mentioned each other?  The first time I remember was when WCW did a video package for Flair before Starrcade 93 and it said he won two WWF titles.

Thanks

The first time they avtually broke kayfabe i can rememebr weas 1998 when X-pac was ripping on Eric Bischoff & Hulk Hogan directly (not by calling them the boss or soemthin) Other then that, I think the Billionare Ted Skits were used as a WCW comedy.

I remember once, just before the nWo days in WCW, I think Tony Shavone announced the results of Raw. I couldn't here it that clearly, but I think heard him say something like "and the results for the other company is Goldust wins..." and he said a couple other names, but I couldn't hear him clearly. Can someone confirm this, cuz I can't imagine them saying the results of Raw(Except for the Mick Foley thing).

On the second Nitro, during the Hogan/Luger match, Bischoff went about how Luger got sick of playing with kids in the WWF and wanted to come to WCW and play with the big boys.  He said the World Champion over there Diesel was barely a mid carder in WCW.

Bischoff was the one who always gave away Raw's results. Schiavone only gave away the Foley WWF Title win. Which Bischoff probably told him to do.

JR used to take a lot of shots at the WWF when he was working for WCW. JR said at Clash of the Champions 6, "We'll like to take this time to say hello to all out fans in CT. Around the Stamford area." JR also used to say "We wrestle here. We don't come out to rock and roll music posing. This is the NWA. We wrestle."

It wasn't the first time obviously but don't forget James E Cornette's shoot comments on Raw in 97 where he'd rip on Nash, Waltman, Bischoff etc...

"the only reason Sean Mark Waltman is employed is because the other guys think he's funny when he gets drunk and pukes on himself. He has the distinction - since this "rasslin war" got started - of being the only guy to be released from his contract to go to the other side, so that shows you how valuable he is.."

At Clash 6, I also remember Jim Ross saying that Steamboat and Flair were the two best wrestlers facing each other for the World Title on April 2nd.  Of course taking a shot at Hogan v. Savage that same day at Wrestlemania.

During GAB 89 I think they zoomed in on a sign that said "WWF stinks" or something along those line for a long time.  The promotion loosing was usaully the one mentioning the other.  Vince always ignored them until early 96, with the Billionaire Ted skits.  When tehy brought in the Fake Diesel (Kane) and Razor (Rick Bogner) they said that "Kevin Nash and Scott Hall will not be appearing on WWF Raw."  Heenan mistakenly called Meng "Haku" and Bischoff made it clear that Meng didn't work for WWF, this was right after teh WWF sued WCW for copyright violations over Hall and Nash.

I remember that. It either said "NWA #1 WWF Stinks" or NWA rules WWF Stink". Oddly enough a year later at the GAB '90. They zoomed in on the same guy. This time he sign only said "NWA #1".

Yup, Bischoff challenged McMahon to a fight at Slamboree '98. That was at a time the WWF & WCW started going back and forth in the ratings. After 88 weeks at being #1, the WWF won in the ratings. WCW started doing anything and everything to make sure they stayed on top. Of course that didn't happen. As the challenge made people tune in to Raw to see what Vince would say.

I don't know about you guys but reading this thread has me longing for the days when WCW and the WWF hated each other with a passion.  It was a much funner time in wrestling.

Yeah that's why I asked.  It just seemed like such a big deal to me when they would mention each other.  They hated each other so much.

Thanks

lol, remember how Bischoff used to give Raw results away on Nitro? :D Like the Greater Power angle, an hour before it would have been revealed on Raw, he gets on commentary and said that he can't say his name but his initials are "VKM"..

I find that very funny because I live like 20 minutes away from Stamford,CT,I live in Trumbull,CT(1989 Little League Champions and Home of Chris Drury)and whenever someone mentions like Stamford,CT or they show WWF Headquaters it's like hey I was just down there the other day.I rode past WWF Headquaters on Tuesday going to the guy who put mettarsil pads in my shoes.

Thanks.

Those were the days of "The Monday Night Wars". Man, that stuff was great. Cheapshots were being thrown everywhere. On TV, other TV shows, magazines, newspapers, the internet. Schiavone throwing some jabs at JR. Bischoff throwing jabs at McMahon & JR. Russo throwing jabs at Bischoff & Hogan in WWF magazines. To think we may never see something like that again. I hope one day somebody would do a special of the history of the Monday Night Wars on TV or even on DVD. Wheather it be the WWF or somebody else doing it ie. entertainment or news channels.

Yeah well knowing vince's ego it would proboly be VERY lopsided. But it would be nice to see a true history. It was really fun to see that. I also lovede JR souting "We sure as hell don't have a seniors tour!!" Now Hogan is the Vetren Lion.

Yeah, Vince's ego would get in the way of something like that. E! was going to do a "True Hollywood Story" on Vince, but the WWF didn't want to give them footage or something like that. So now that show isn't going to happen. That's what would probably happen to a "History of the Monday Night Wars" special. Like you said, Vince would make the WWF look like Gods or he wouldn't let somebody else use footage to do the special.

The first time that I remember something like that was when ECW "invaded" the Manhattan Center and they had a few matches.  The BWO came out...and Vince, who was doing commentary with Heyman and Lawler (what a combo) said..."this is the B..WO.  Not to be confused with the "clothing line" NWO."

I found that to be so freakin' hilarious.  He took the best WCW angle ever and called it nothing more than a glorified fashion statement.

Yeah, and I think he said it twice, too.

I remember Bischoff taking a shot at the WWF in late '94, during a Regal match. He was talking about what a tremendous technical wrestler Regal was and how devastating his moves were, "not like...the chicken wing!" (this was when the WWF was pushing Backlund as the #1 heel).

In mid-1994, Hogan mentioned in his taped debut promo that he won "5 WWF titles".

Ted DiBiase when announcing he's the new manager of the Steiners in 1996:

"I'm going to take these boys to the Dubleyou Doub.......WCW tag-team championships"

I remember that thing with Ted Dibiase I was half paying attention and my dad picked up on it right away and he was like he was about to say World Wrestling Federation!!!

Thanks.

I'm not sure what year it was... sometime in the mid 90's, but on WCW Saturday night, before they would go to a commercial that would show clips of matches of current WCW wrestlers vs a former WCW wrestler that was in the WWF.

They had one of Sting vs Cactus Jack

Lord Steven Regal vs The British Bulldog

The Steiners vs Cactus Jack and Abdullah

Jim Duggan vs Steve Austin (I still can't believe Austin had to job to Duggan)

Marcus Bagwell vs Vinny Vegas (Diesel)

I also remember Jim Ross taking shots a Hogan during a Lex Luger- Ric Flair match..... saying something like... " it doesn't take much to rip apart a tshirt."
