Guest Austin3164life Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 After reading that TLC 4 got Match of the Decade award, I felt the need to vent and say that there are such better matches for that title. Greatest Raw Match- It's hard to pick one but I feel that the Austin/Michaels vs. Bulldog/Owen tag match in 97 was the best Raw (and possibly free tv) match ever. Great action as all four guys were on, and it was a near-20 minute match on a 1 hour show. Awesome match Honorable Mentions: Owen vs. Bulldog (First European Title match, Feb 97) Austin vs. Rock (World Title Match, Night after Survivor Series 98) Benoit vs. Austin (Raw in Novemberish 00) Benoit/Jericho vs. Austin/HHH (Raw is Quad) Eddy vs. RVD (Ladder Match) Angle vs. Austin (10-18-01 Title Match)
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Psst- Wrestling Polls and Lists folder is where this belongs. Owen v. Bulldog smokes all those matches with the exception of the Quad tag matches. Angle v. Austin isn't really that great a match and the ladder match suffers in my eyes because the house show match they did was so much better. But as I said earlier- Owen v. Davey is #1
Guest bravesfan Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 I don't really have a favorite, so I'll nominate a few more for consideration... --Angle/Austin, from 01.08.01 RAW (on the Action! DVD) --Dallas 10-Man tag, from 02.07.2000 RAW. Screw it, I'll go with Dallas match, just based on crowd heat.
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 The sad thing is- I've never seen the 10-man. :-( Triple H v. Jericho also warrants consideration
Guest Anglesault Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Angle v. Austin isn't really that great a match a The first two Austin/Angle matches were ruined by GOD-Uh.
Guest Sakura Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Mankind's title win against Rock in December of 98.
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Angle v. Austin isn't really that great a match a The first two Austin/Angle matches were ruined by GOD-Uh. I meant the one where Regal runs in and costs Angle the match. The match they had in January 2001 was amazing. The crowd's reaction to HHH-Austin brawling is a site to see. As is JR's hilarious commentary. The matches aren't "ruined" by any means- I don't remember the Nov match too well but I give the January match ****1/2
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 When a match is that good it gets a rating like that
Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Mick Foley vs. Terry Funk for the Hardcore Title. I still consider that the greatest WWE style hardcore match in history.
Guest Choken One Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Ric Flair Vs Mr. Perfect Loser Leaves WWE Jan. 1993 Bret Hart Vs 1-2-3 Kid (1994) British Bulldog Vs Owen Hart (Feb. 1997) Steve Austin and HBK Vs Owen Hart and British Bulldog (May 1997) Steve Austin Vs Kane (Night after KOTR) Kane Vs Mankind (HIAC) Raw 10 Man Tag Match (Feb. 2000) Chris Jericho Vs Triple H (Phantom Title Switch) Jericho/Benoit Vs Austin/HHH (May 2001) RVD Vs Eddy (Ladder) Steve Austin Vs Ric Flair (Week before Austin walk out) TLC4
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 What about: Benoit/Angle Cage Match Mick Foley/Terry Funk Street Fight
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Mick Foley vs. Terry Funk for the Hardcore Title. I still consider that the greatest WWE style hardcore match in history. They never had a match for the WWF Hardcore title. They had two matches on one RAW. One ended with NAO pushing them in the dumpster, the other was the one where Foley had to prove himself to Vince
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 TLC4 is weak compared to the other three matches. It just was lacking something that the other three had.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 The Dumpster incident happened before WM 14. The 'prove yourself to vince by kicking the crap out of your best friend' match was sometime during Austin's first reign as champ. May or April.
Guest bob_barron Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 The Dumpster incident happened before WM 14. The 'prove yourself to vince by kicking the crap out of your best friend' match was sometime during Austin's first reign as champ. May or April. May 4th, 1998
Guest Sakura Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Yeah, it was to earn a shot at Over The Edge: IYH. Mick and Austin went on to have an AWESOME "sports entertainment" match at the ppv.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Steve Austin Vs Kane (Night after KOTR) Kane Vs Mankind (HIAC) TLC4 !!! I meant the one where Regal runs in and costs Angle the match. Worst of the big four Austin/Angle title matches from that era. Kind of sucked in relation to the others.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 The Foley/Funk match happened in the middle of the Dude Love/Austin feud. After Unforgiven Foley vowed to not wear the Dude Love outfit again after Vince gave a title shot to Goldust. Dude got pissed and Vince said to prove himself he should rip Terry Funk's heart out. Foley and Funk had an awesome match while Austin did commentary. After the match Foley attacked Austin and went back to Vince and reclaimed the Dude outfit showing that he was still in Vince's camp. After that came the suit wearing, false teeth wearing Dude. I think that's how it went down.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Sounds about right. The NOA Dumpster incident happened pre-WrestleMania right?
Guest Anglesault Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Didn't Goldust burn the Dustsuit sometime in the middle of this so he could be a jobber?
Guest Anglesault Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Sounds about right. The NOA Dumpster incident happened pre-WrestleMania right? It caused the dumpster match at Mania
Guest Gatornibs Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 WHat about Taka vs Triple H? Or Bret Hart vs Hakushi from 95? HBK vs Owen Hart from early 98!
Guest Anglesault Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 WHat about Taka vs Triple H? Match of the decade?
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 I don't really remember those matches. I'm glad someone mentioned Bret Hart/123 Kid. I may hate Sean Waltman, but that was a great match.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Sounds about right. The NOA Dumpster incident happened pre-WrestleMania right? It caused the dumpster match at Mania I thought so.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Hmm...I guess i'll say: Flair Vs Perfect Michaels Vs Jannetty (Jannetty title win) Austin/HHH Vs Benoit/Jericho Angle Vs Benoit (Cage) Benoit Vs Austin (Montreal finish) HHH Vs Jericho (Phantom title switch) HHH Vs Taka Austin Vs Mankind (Nov. '96) Cactus Jack Vs HHH (RAW '97) Radicalz/HHH Vs Too Cool/Rikishi/Rock/Cactus Sasuke Vs Taka (RAW '97) Owen Vs Michaels (Dec. '97) Owen Vs Bulldog Austin/Michaels Vs Owen/Bulldog Mankind Vs Rock (Mankind wins) Razor Vs 123 Kid (kid wins) RVD Vs Eddie (Ladder) Bret Vs Vader (Thursday RAW Thursday, if that counts) Steiners Vs Quebecers (Quebec Rules) Foley Vs Funk (Battle for Mick's soul) Savage Vs Doink (MACHO MIDGET~!) Doink Vs Perfect (KOTR Qualifier) Michaels Vs Owen (collapse finish) Whew. i just like a bunch of those, so they're on my personal list
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Wasn't the dumpster incident the test for NAO to join DX or something?
Guest bravesfan Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 Razor/Waltman and HHH/Taka are just glorified squashes. People just seem to get worked up over the amount of offense the jobber got in.
