Chris Webber -- Hall of Famer?

Recommended Posts

I can't see KG staying in Minnesota past the end of his contract at this rate... and hell being an Orlando fan and knowing they need another big time player to compliment T-Mac since Grant Hill is going the way of the quad with his ankle...

To me, when Webber is done playing, he will be one of those players on the fence. He is one of those players that getting a ring will make all the difference. A great player should lead his team to a championship.

Here's an idea for Garnett. If he really wants to improve the Wolves. He'd renegotiate, take about 10 million less, about what Tim Duncan makes. That would free up money to go after Gary Payton, or another top player. His contract his one of the reasons the Wolves can't sign anyone.

So can we say now that Kevin McHale is officially a bad GM? First he traded away Stephon Marbury. Then he signed KG to that overblown contract. Then he did that Joe Smith secret contract thing (which was, by the way, totally overpaying Smith) that left the team without any 1st round draft picks for five years.

Yes. The Wolves needs to overhaul the entire franchise.

ugh, I was going to make the Joe Smith point but I've been beaten to the punch.

My Magic fantasies aside, KG needs to go someplace else.. if his numbers don't show that he is worth his contract (which I will admit is inflated beyond belief, but that was a pre-salary cap contract), I don't know what else the man can do to prove his worth. He just gets better each year he plays, and he is still very young, just starting to enter the prime of his career.

I think McHale has been a great GM. If you take out the Joe Smith thing, he's been great and this team is where it is because of his moves. The team has been handcuffed due to this Joe Smith debacle but he's kept them as a competitve team regardless. And was the Smith thing even him? I seem to recall that deal was setup between the teams owner and Smith's agent, was McHale really behind that? I'm not sure.

Stephon Marbury DEMANDED a trade. He refused to come back. He held the entire franchise hostage just to satisfy his own ego and prove that HE was the star and not Garnett. McHale didn't have a choice in the matter. It was either lose him and get nothing back or trade him for something. Don't forget that Terrell Brandon was one of the top point guards in the league when they traded for him, they didn't expect for him to end up getting hurt every other day.

I would like to take this chance to point out what an idiot Marbury is. If Garnett and Marbury had played together all these years, they'd be one of the best teams in the league. I loved it when he went to the Nets and he kept saying "I'm gonna bring back the winning aroma to New Jersey! I'm gonna bring the aroma!" You mean the winning AURA you dumbass! Then again, maybe he meant aroma cause he sure did stink it up there.

Signing KG to that monster contract is the only thing that has kept the team afloat. If this team didn't have KG PLUS they lost all these draft picks, they'd be down there with the Cavs and the Nuggets. When you get a player like KG you pay him his money and you keep him. You don't let another team take him. The fact that McHale was able to keep Garnett in Minnesota instead of letting him fly out of there to go to a greener pasture was a great move. You also can't under-estimate the impact McHale has had on Garnett that has turned him into the great player that he is not only on the court but off as well. McHale basically adopted the kid when he came to the team and he groomed into what he is. When Juwan Howard is basically making the same amount as Garnett is making, I can't complain about Garnett making it. How in the world would NOT signing Garnett have made this team better? There aren't many big name free agents out there looking to go to Minnesota and there sure as hell isn't one as GOOD as Garnett.

I may be wrong about this, but isn't the problem with Garnett's contract is that he signed it BEFORE the new CBA came out that set a cap on max contracts? Cause these days every time you hear somebody sign a max contract it's for like 60, 70, 80 million. Garnett signed his 100+ deal before all that started so his contract is actually bigger than most contracts. So it seems like if they do resign him to another max contract that it'll actually be a 10-20 million paycut. But does anybody really understand how all this money crap works?

McHale has also pulled off some moves that just didn't end up working out simply due to bad luck, such as the Brandon injuries. Remember a couple of drafts ago everybody thought they lucked out by Loren Woods slipping down to them. Experts thought Woods could end up becoming a good player alongside Garnett, instead he ended up sucking. Last year every team in the league was trying to get Marc Jackson, saying that he could end up becoming one of the better centers in the league after his surprising rookie year with the Warriors where he was in the running for the rookie of the year award. A bunch of teams were trying to get him. Houston offered him 24 million. The Suns offered the Warriors two players and a 1st round pick for him, which the Suns ended up getting Amare with. Memphis, Orlando and Indiana also tried to get him. But McHale beat everybody and got Jackson for nothing but Dean Garrett and a 2nd round pick. The day it happened it was one of the most shocking trades of the year, McHale looked like a winner. If Jackson playing at the level he did in Golden State, him and Garnett would be a great duo. Turned out that Jackson's rookie year was a fluke. McHale couldn't have known that.
