Castlevania Aria of Sorrow

Anybody tried it yet? The game seems to be a sequel to the PSX game with the story always bringing up 1999. I have been playing it for a few days and damn it the game is hard.

The graphics is great and really shines is the music! Their is floating ghost dancers that look almost tranceparent and other background effects that you will notice. The music changes with the different areas of the castle from playful to upbeat to thrilling depending on the mood of the level.

The game play has been taken to another level with several different weapons to use. You start out with a dagger instead of the usual whip and must figure out the puzzles of getting the other weapons but getting the special power ups in the right set up will drive you crazy for a few hours. The special powers are set up in 3 color orb catagories. Red is throwing weapons based on monster souls, Yellow is stat base, Blue misc powers also from monsters I think they range from flying stone breath. Back to the weapons so far I had 5 swords, a whip sword, lance. And the throwing weapons/powers include daggers, spears, force field, grenades, land mines, birds.

And there are only certain places where you can save the game, it a room that has a statue with a lit flame to do it just push up or you can pause but if you die it will take you back to the last save spot. This is what gets me in alot of trouble, I get so far in the game after an hour of so of playing then die without SAVING! And I refuse to use save state in the emulator.

I read somewhere that somebody compared this game to Metriod, and its true, it has similiar puzzles such as the special jumps. This game is just fun to play but get fustrating when you cannot find the certain power up so you just wonder around just leveling up just hoping to kill that certain monster that gives you the power you need...........damn it took me forever to find the floating flying jump. And figuring out when to use the backslide will make you mad!

Several game sites rated it 9 out of 10
