Guest Downhome Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Like, let's say we are in the middle of a Wold Title match, and a pin fall attempt is botched, like, either the Ref accidently made the three count, or the guy being pinned didn't kick out. What would happen? What if it was VERY obvious that it was a 3-count? I've seen this happen, I THINK, but I don't know if it was just booked that way, or really an accident. Or how about... ...what if in, say, a first blood match, the guy who was supposed to win got a huge cut and started bleeding? What would they do in this type of instance? Would they continue, or just end it and think up an angle to cover it up? I'm just currious what you guys think, or if you KNOW for sure. What would YOU do? Sincerely, ...Downhom... Guest the BURNHAM Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Royal Rumble1999, X-Pac vs. Gangrel for i think the Euro Title, but that may be wrong, Teddy Long counts a three count and they just play it off as if he never did.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Vince would probably dispute the call at the end of the match, and they'd explain it the next show by firing the ref (storyline), suspending the winning wrestler (storyline), refusing to award it, or holding the title up. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 24, 2002 If it was a simple mistaken 3 count they would just say it was a 2 count and continue which has happened a few times. Yeah if it was something obvious they would just go with it rather then ignoring it and making the match look stupid. It wouldn't be that hard to alter the storyline the next night. Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 They would find some way of covering for it. Wasn't the Smackdown match where Eddy Guerrero fucked up his elbow supposed to end with him winning?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted March 24, 2002 I wonder if a title change has ever taken place on accident, hmmm...
Guest godthedog Report post Posted March 24, 2002 it's happened. final four, 1997. austin was supposed to get the title (losing it to sid a day later) but he blew his knee out; bret, vader & taker had to improvise the rest of the match. bret ended up getting the title & jobbing to sid. Guest MRFTW Report post Posted March 24, 2002 There was that time Men on a Mission won the tag belts from the Quebecers by acident when Mable fell on one of them and wasn't able to get up befor the 3 count. It happened at a house show and the Quebecers just got the belts back 1-2 days later.
Guest DEEP THOUGHT Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I find it hard to believe that Austin blew his knee out during the Final Four match. Sure he had a noticable limb, but if he was hurting so bad that he had to take himself out of the bout then why did he stick around ringside to interject himself at various points for the rest of the match? Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted March 25, 2002 i think generally they will ignore logic and just present the original finish. Ref errors are quite common - at No Way Out 2000, Rock pinned Angle for 3 with a Rock bottom but the ref said it was only 2 (God knows why), so Rock had to deliver another rock bottom for another 3. This instance right here is the only one I could really think of. Heheheh, I don't think there could be a more OBVIOUS Ref screwup than this one right here, lol. I remember screeming in joy that Angle "kicked out", but then I realized that it was just a botched finish.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I remember that round this time, Rock teamed with Teddy Long and another ref to face three heels (can't remember who, Trips, Angle and Kane maybe?). This was supposed to be a punishment for the refs for screwing up, and I *think* it was for the above No Way Out incident. I'm not sure though, anyone remember more clearly? Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Austin didn't wrestle another match until the next ppv. He blew his knee...and was unable to go until he absolutely HAD too. And why did he keep going that night? Because he was doing his job. He had a script to work from and the script said "Continue program with Bret Hart"...so he did his job. That's like saying you find it hard to beleive that HHH tore his quad because he finished the match.
Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I remember at Souled Out 2000, Kidman and Dean had a match where the first person knocked outside the ring was the loser. Dean unknowingly stepped outside about 30 seconds in and they had to end the match there.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Austin hyperextended his knee falling out of teh ring I think in the Final 4 match. The ending to the Rock/Angle match at NWO 2001 when Rock won the titel was botched, Angle never kicked out but Hebner stopped counting like he had. Is it just me or does Tim White (the fat ref with teh beard) always hit the mat once before he starts counting, making a 2 count seem like a 3 count? This pisses me off. Guest The Masked Yodeler Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Yeah, it's because he's really fat. It confuses the hell out of me sometimes.
Guest hobu0 Report post Posted March 25, 2002 How about the Hardcore battle Royal. The time was supposed to run out before the 3 count but they were off so Hardcore Holly won the title for one night then lost it back to Crash the next day
Guest griffinmills Report post Posted March 25, 2002 First blood match the announcers are usually pushing the fact that the ref "wont stop it untill someone is really bleeding!"
Guest sayeitan Report post Posted March 25, 2002 That hardocre battle royal botch-up was remarkable. I still have no idea what the planned finish was. The ref counted 2, but the problem was that Crash didn't kick out, and there was still time on the clock...but the ref just discontinued the count. Seconds later, the bell goes and Hardcore is the champ. WTF? Here's a bigger WTF - how could anyone rate this match as ***+ (i.e. Keith and several others on the net)? What a horrible, horrible match...people lumbering around and hitting one another with cookie sheets. Amazing.
Guest Smeghead Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Mistakes can and do happen. And when they happen, they just have to go with it and try to correct the mistake ASAP. Fortunately, in the case of Final Four, the mistake didn't matter too much. Sid was going to win the title the next day whether it was Bret or Austin that won. In the Hardcore Battle Royal, the title was changing hands so much that an accidental 24-hour Hardcore Holly title reign didn't make any difference.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Heh, I remember when Sid kicked out of the Leg Drop of Eternal Suffering. Good stuff..
