What do you do when you cant sleep

Recommended Posts

Guest HBK16

Ok so two days ago, I go to the doctors about my sleeping problem and he tells me I do have a sleeping problem, which I could have told you myself. He gives me pills for it but thats all. But I shouldnt take them every night. He gave me some suggestions like reading a book or go to sleep to the radio or TV but I cant sleep with noise so those are out. I cant read I book unless I am forced to. Im not much of a reader. What I do is just lay in bed and try very very hard to sleep. But that lead to depression so I dont lie in bed unless I am very very tired and I am sure I will go to sleep. Now I have had this problem for a few years now. 2 and a half to be exact. But its at the worse right now. I sleep maybe around 16 hours a week. The normal hours of sleep you need a week is between 42 and 56. I dont really like my doctors advice so Im coming to you guys and asking what you guys do when you cant sleep. I have found that downloading music can be pretty helpful but in the lat 2 nights I have downloaded 134 songs and Im starting to run out of songs to download. Im only 18 so I cant go out to a bar and drink myself stupid. I do live a couple miles from Arizona State University so there is lots to do where I live at night but I just havent really explored. So any suggestions right now would be great.

Argh....I have this same problem too.

The only way I can force myself to sleep, is to either:

--with headphones on, play an assload of songs (mp3 player) until my eyes (and ears) begin to waver. IMMEDIATELY take the phones off, and your brain will adjust to the lack of noise. (Falling asleep to music really doesn't work with me either.)

--surfing the web for the entire night, until your eyes begin to hurt. Browsing TSM for hours on end helps, especially when a new topic doesn't surface until the morning comes.

Learn to read books! At best, they will increase your intelligence. At worst, they will bore you and make you trired and go to sleep. Either way you win.

Try dude. Seriously, have a bit of self-discipline. Even if you're not using reading to improve yourself, regard it as a cure for your insomnia, a curse I have wrestled with myself over the years. Lie in bed with a book and force yourself to read it and take in information. Stop after every sentence if you have to and put it into your own words so you take the stuff on board. Do it for at least an hour. If you really do find it that much of a strain, I garuntee you will get tired and sleepy. Just try it as a potential remedy if you're that desperate for an insomnia cure instead of dismissing it outright as something you can't do because it's something you wouldn't do of your own volition. You wouldn't load up on sleeping pills in your free time either. You're asking for a solution, I'm giving you one. Rock.

I frequently have trouble sleeping. I find reading keeps me awake, but I read all the time, so it might help you if you tried.

What I usually do is stay up all night (or two nights if need be), and no matter how tired I get, force myself to stay awake until an appropriate bed time the next day. Sometimes that will get a rhythm going and I sleep alright for a good while after that.

Well I didnt go to sleep last night again like I didnt Saturday night and Friday night I got wasted and passed out at 7am and woke up at 8 30 so I havent been getting too much sleep so I guess I will give the reading idea a try. My doc recommended it and so did you so what do I have to loose. Im just going to try anything. I hate not sleeping. It makes me so depressed.

Find a woman, sex naturally fills the body with endorfins (sp?) and relaxes you... then go to the doctor to cure the STDs you get from any girl who'd sleep with you so fast!

/broad generalizations RULE!

I have an odd (and unhealthy) sleeping pattern where I won't sleep Night One, sleep two hours Night Two, then sleep the full eight-ten hours on Day Three. Then I repeat the cycle.

So whenever I feel like sleeping, I just don't take Stacker 2s or coffee and I'm out.

What I do usually involves a certain Playboy and some vaseline...BUT I won't go into that right now.

Besides that, I either surf the net or listen to music...both of which often result in me getting to sleep around 6 or 7 in the morning. I don't sleep much.

I don't think it's actual Insomnia, but I stay up late every night. Everyone I know says I'm like someone who works 3rd shift. Up all night and then sleep for around 6 hours and do it all over again.

I wake up at noonish and stay up till 5 am everyday. Like I said I don't think it Insomnia, because I'm not trying to go to sleep in the early hours of the day.

I feel better from 9 pm to 5 am, than I do from noonish to 8 pm.

Smoke pot.

Incessantly stretch.

Jerk off.

Take a bath in the dark.

Fall asleep to ambient noise, like a fan.

Do something physically strenuous during the day.

Jerking is hit or miss for me. Sometimes it knocks me out and other times it envigorates me. What I do is watch TV until I can't keep my eyes open any more. Another idea is to watch crappy shows. Personally, I use WrestleMania IX and early 90's Coliseum Videos.

But I dont sleep during the day. I dont go to sleep for sometimes 3 days straight no matter how hard I try. Yeah some people have backwards schedual where they sleep in the day and stay up in the night but I dont even sleep during the day.

I just trying this the other week, and it works very well.

Instead of counting sheep, go from A-Z and name each wrestler for each name. I can go all the way through and name every wrestler except for Q. It works very well because it makes you sleepy right afterwards, if you make it through.

Yeah, I find that being a huge fucking dork helps me sleep better, too. If I'm feeling particularly sleepy, I'll sometimes attempt to find "Star Trek" characters that correspond to all of the 26 letters in the alphabet. I then masturbate seven times into my sister's bra and urinate all over my sheets.

HBK16, I find that whenever I cannot sleep it's because I'm not being physically active during the day. Don't take this personally or anything, but do you have a particularly demanding lifestyle or do you just kind of lounge around all day?

I usually try to do something to wear my brain out and bore me to death like a crossword puzzle or something.

I also like headline news, since it repeats over and over at night.

Have you tried just dealing with being awake? Do you get detrimentally tired?

Workout ridicullously hard. I mean, just push ups, squats crunchs. Over and over until your arms and legs go numb. Worse case scenario you won't get sleep but be all buff and sexy...then comes the sex with women that want the bod...then comes the sleep....
