Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted May 13, 2003 The oddest things trigger deep thought. I was watching the Raven/Jarrett TNA ep, followed by that indescribable ECW Arena video, and I started to wonder if there is such a thing as destiny. I think there is. Too many things in my life have seemed, almost cinematic in nature personally, and professionally/academically I have gotten a lot of lucky and strange breaks, that all seem to indicate I'm on some sort of path in life. I think in the end, my philosopy is that everyone is born with a given talent, and if you exercise that talent to your fullest potential, the right breaks will come along and you will use that talent to live out your destiny. Well thanks a lot Ultimate Warrior Seriously, I do believe in fate, which I guess is more or less along the lines of destiny. Being that I'm agnostic, I don't believe in that God has a set path for me or anything, since I doubth is existence and all, but part of the reason I doubt the existence of something supernatural is because I feel that nature has a natural order and flow that cannot be disrupted. Everything has a balance, as well as an opposite. Good and evil, black and white, etc. etc. And I think that things happen because they are meant to be. One strong way I believed in this was when I went to bootcamp for the Marine Corps back in October `01, went through 2 months of it, and was one of the top recruits in my class (because I had 2 years prior USNSCC experience, and my division was one of the best in the Sea Cadet Corps because we trained on a Marine Corps base)...and was kicked out for the biggest bullshit ever, because of being in mental hospitals and psychiatric treatment, and not disclosing it to the drill instructors because my recruiter had told me not to. I was pissed, majorly, and my entire life had been fucked up by this sicne I had wanted to be a Marine since I was little, and have always had a military way of doing things (efficiency and all). But then war began, and when the war began, little did I realize that by the time war had begun I would have had enough experience and training to have been sent out there, and my job specialty was combat support/tanks. So yeah, I felt that life had a way of working itself out there, and that made my belief in fate even stronger, because had I not been kicked out, who knows what coudl have happened to me out there. Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted May 13, 2003 I believe in multiple destinies, wht is that you ask? Many roads are set for us as we go along, that is where free will comes into play. You must use your free will to pick the road that suits you best, if you choose the wrong one, you will meet the wrong people,a nd will be fucked over. EX: In the summer of 2001, I was accepted to a University that was miles way, and my father was incarcerted for a serious crime. My choices were: 1. Stay home, and attend local communtiy college. 2. Attend University. 3. Suicide I picked choice #2. The good things were I learned more about myself and life itself, teh Marine Corps(totaly different issue) also helped me in my quest for self-discovery. I found friends online, which led to the formation of the OAOAST(I was later booted out). I also got my first job. The negtives were, I was shocked to find out when I came home that my fther was in "The Hole" for rioting. I met an old friend who I hadn't seen in years, but him and some others screwed me over, and I lost $555 (appr. value). My boss was a total self-absorbed dick. I was kicked out of one dorm room for starting a fight,? that I didn't even start (no punches were thrown). The Cliq fucked with my head, turning me against many people (they were actually nicknamed that). I was threatened by top officials for "Nazi Propaganda" (?!?) Tensions between me and many family members started to boil (the temp. has not cooled down, and I will explode if this shit doesent stop). In conclusion, maybe it would have been better if I had choose road #1. I'am over #3, and rarely comes up ever again.

Guest Mole Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I believe in Fate very much so, everything happens for a reason. For example, I wasn't going to come back to school for second semester because I was going to take care of my mother. Since she passed away, I decided to go back to school because I thought it was the right thing to do. Since I came back to school, I affected so many people. Every single person I make contact with, I affect their lives as long with mine. If I stayed home, I would of been with my pops, and I would of been with my girlfriend at the time. I would of affected her life as long with everyone at home. Basically, if my mom didn't pass away, then my life would be totally different. If she was still alive, I would be home taking care of her and I wouldn't be here at school with my friends. Their lives would be different, along with mine. That is why I believe everything happens for a reason. I could go on forever about this, so I will stop now. But did that make sense?

Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I could go on forever about this, so I will stop now. But did that make sense? Yes, but not in the context of fate. If your mother were still alive, your taking care of her would be a free-willed decision, not fate. You would be choosing to do that, or not to do it and go back to school. There's no fate involved there, just you making one decision when faced with several options. BTW, it's "would have," contracted to "would've," not "would of." Pet peeve. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 14, 2003 There are those who think that life Has nothing left to chance With a host of holy horrors To direct our aimless dance A planet of playthings We dance on the strings Of powers we cannot perceive "The stars aren't aligned --- Or the gods are malign" Blame is better to give than receive You can choose a ready guide In some celestial voice If you choose not to decide You still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears And kindness that can kill I will choose a path that's clear I will choose free will There are those who think that They've been dealt a losing hand The cards were stacked against them --- They weren't born in Lotus-Land All preordained A prisoner in chains A victim of venomous fate Kicked in the face You can't pray for a place In heaven's unearthly estate Each of us A cell of awareness Imperfect and incomplete Genetic blends With uncertain ends On a fortune hunt That's far too fleet
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I don't believe in it. It's all math, math is our god. Our lives follow a pattern and that's all there is to it.

Well, the way I believe is that staying home to take care of my mother was my fate, but that didn't happen, so fate lead me to another place. It is just how I look at things, I don't except other people to do the same. And would have and would of, I always make that grammar mistake.
