Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Just like Rodney Mack, some guys come into the NBA with "unlimited potential." Out of that group, who are some guys that just flopped? Isaiah Rider is one that comes to mind for me.

Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 13, 2003 I will actually agree with Christian Laettner. He has no flash or anything...but he was smart as hell and accurate all over the court. And he never amounted to more than a decent bench player.

Bored 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Hands down Derrick Coleman. He could have been the greatest power forward ever.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 13, 2003 In defense of: Christian Latener- He was a All-star caliber player in Atlanta, had a knee injury and is now half the speed he was. He still did have some great years with a Hawks team that routinely was in the second round. Eddie Jones- Um...WHAT...the guy has had a damn good career. Shawn Kemp...the guy had a great DECADE...yeah, he is crap now, but jesus...10 years of good years and 3-4 bad ain't exactly a bust. Grant Hill-Don't think it is fair to call his career a flop. Plus he has had more great years than injured ones. Injuries are all thats keeping him away from being the man again. Danny Manning- From 1987-1995 was a great player.. was damn good from 96-98(despite injuries) that is damn fine run actually. Now...my list... 1. Benoit Benjamin-shoulda been a great big man...was utterly useless. 2. Richard Dumas- Any Suns fan has to remember this guy. 3. Jim Jackson- From 26. PPG to bench player in a matter of a year and a half. And just to beat people to the punch, I'll go ahead and defend Penny and his injuries before he gets on the list... Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Laettner would be a perfect player for the Lakers bench. Even at this point he still can put up some points every once in a while.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 13, 2003 What about Alex English...he put up hall of fame numbers, but was always on shitty teams.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2003 What about Alex English...he put up hall of fame numbers, but was always on shitty teams. Ummm think you misread the topic. Its not the player who did the most with the least talent around him.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Is it too early for me to say Darius Miles? It's not just that he hasn't done anything other than some acrobatic dunks every now and then...it's that I don't see him getting any better. Look at Jermaine O'Neal. He didn't do anything for 3 years, but that was because he never played. When he got to Indiana and got some burn he tore it up. But Miles, on the other hand, has been a starter for the past two years and hasn't improved at all.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 13, 2003 What about Alex English...he put up hall of fame numbers, but was always on shitty teams. Ummm think you misread the topic. Its not the player who did the most with the least talent around him. I know that, the guy had talent but he's looked at as mostly a loser. I know that it wasn't the main focus of the topic. But since he was on losing teams he didn't do much with all the talent he had.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 13, 2003 For the most part Denver was a winning team when English played for them. Derrick Coleman name comes to mind immediatley. Another Syracuse player Billy Owens had a disapointing career. Christian Laettner was overrated entering the NBA. His poor attitude didn't help matters either. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Is it too early for me to say Darius Miles? Yes, he is still really young, and last year he didn't really seem to be too motivated. He was pissed off about not playing with his boys anymore and was injured half of the year it seemed. This year was adefinate step back for him, but way too early to call him a major bust. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 13, 2003 I didn't say he was a bust; I just said he hasn't done anything yet with all the talent he supposedly has. Remember, this guy was picked 3rd overall and was supposed to be the next Scottie Pippen, Kevin Garnett or Tracy McGrady. He's not as good as Garnett or T-Mac were in their 2nd year, and Miles is in his 3rd year. And just because he's not playing with his boys doesn't give him a free pass to sulk and not play well. This is the NBA and it's a business. Friends get traded away all the time, but you're supposed to be a man and get over it. Besides, they both have cell phones and 2-way pagers. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Way off topc, but someone mentioned Billy Owens. Didn't he look a lot like Carlton from The Fresh Prince?
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 13, 2003 Two words...Roy Tarpley. What a waste of talent he turned out to be. Chris Washburn is another that comes to mind.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 13, 2003 There are quite a few Syracuse players who didn't do much or anything in the pros: Billy Owens, Derrick Coleman, John Wallace, Lawrence Moten, Preston Shumpert, Pearl Washington....makes you worry about Carmelo Anthony. Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted May 14, 2003 There are quite a few Syracuse players who didn't do much or anything in the pros: Billy Owens, Derrick Coleman, John Wallace, Lawrence Moten, Preston Shumpert, Pearl Washington....makes you worry about Carmelo Anthony. Of those, DC had a good couple years and has found a niche right now as a role player ona good 76ers team. Owens shoudl have been better I'll give you that. Wallace and Moten I don't think were good NBA players in any way, they were good college players but they were a casualty of the upped talent level. That's why they were drafted so low (wallace i htink was 17th, Moten was second round) Shumpert I don't believe was drafted Washington shouldn't have left early, he wasn't ready yet. ---------------------- I think Carmelo is an NBA quality talent unlike everyone listed except for DC and Owens. He shoudl be fine.

Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Derrick Coleman. Yeah, the guy has salvaged himself from the ashes in the last couple of years in Philly, but he had the ability to be an all-time great. He had no desire in his prime. What a waste. Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted May 14, 2003 And, I'm bordering on insensitive by saying this, but how about Len Bias? Never played an NBA game, but he was a superstar in college with potential written all over him. It was a tragic shame that he threw a potential career- and more importantly, his life- away because he enjoyed the 'nightlife' too much.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Cleaves, Vaughn, and Hurley were at best backup PG's in the NBA. Hurley was improving before his accident, Vaughn is a solid bench player, and Cleaves his still wearing Michigan St. clothing.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted May 14, 2003 What about Vin Baker? He went from All-Star player to NBA's version of the Big Show in a matter of a few years.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 14, 2003 WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! Juwan Haward is considered a let down ONLY and I mean ONLY because of that huge contract he has. That guy plays his ass off everynight...did so with the losing ass"lets get 9 shooting guards on the roster and wonder why we get beat on the boards" Wizards/Bullets, and he still plays hard with the losing ass"we know we suck but at least we're young and have a good upside..so HA!!" Nuggets. He was a GOOD player to begin with and has had a GOOD career. I think he played right up to his talent...(of course Chris Webber made him look like a god in Washington so that inflated his stats...)
