Guest Downhome Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I just watched it for the first time ever, and I've been blown away. For years I've seen it at local video stores, and have always wanted to check it out, but never have. The box made it sound like a basic horror/comedy, but it is MUCH more. I watched it tonight, and it's now become one of my favorites I've ever seen. It was just so poetic and artsy, in a very good way. Not to mention that Rupert Everett was just amazing, as was most of the entire cast. Oh yeah, It's also made me become obsessed with one Anna Falchi now, heh. It was a perfect mix of a lot that I love about film, it's outstanding. I'm going to stop there, and leave this open to you guys, and I'll post more about it soon if you want. If you have never seen it, then by all means go out and do so ASAP. Zombies, great performances, a hot ass woman, comedy, deaths, thought provoking, etc... Sincerely, ...Downhome... Guest Downhome Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I love this movie and it's also one of my many favorites. I can't wait until it's gets a Region 1 DVD release. I just hope it's a DVD that does justice to the movie. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): It has a great WTF ending too I can't believe it took me so long to finally watch it, it pisses me off that I wanted so long. I think the box just made it sound very light hearted to me, something that I wouldn't be all that interested in, but the box does NOT do the film justice. Once the DVD arives, if it ever does, it's mine. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I agree, I was just WTF when I saw it, and had to watch it over and over again. Guest mach7 Report post Posted May 14, 2003 What is it about? From www.houseofhorrors.com ... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): If you were the caretaker of a cemetery, you'd think your life would be pretty simply, right? Well not for our hero Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett), the engineer of the Bullora Cemetery. It seems that Francesco and his mentally challenged sidekick Gnaghi (Francios Hadji-Lazaro) have jobs that entail more than just providing the final resting place for the recently deceased. No, it appears the dead won't stay dead. These "returners" as they are called come back seven days after their deaths to wreak havoc. Francesco has accepted his charge in life and realize no one in their right mind would believe him. He knows that without the cemetery, he would have no life. Unexpectedly, that all changes when "she" (Anna Falchi) walks into his ossuary. I never realized that ossuaries has such a strong erotic attraction for women. Quickly, they both fall in love. Oops!!! I guess I left out the part about her husband recently dying. While making love on his grave, "she" is viciously bitten by her "returner" husband. Before passing on, our star crossed lovers promise to love each other forever. Pronounced dead, Fransceco waits for her return and he painfully puts an end to her unlife??? Well, you would think that would be the end of the film, but it is only the beginning. Franscesco and Gnaghi continue to do battle with the "returners". Nuns, boy scouts, motor riding returners, and even the mayor. Gnaghi falls in love (boy it is strange) and "she" comes back, but not just as a...."returner". Death makes an appearance in two excellent scenes. Soavi's vision is spectacular if not overwhelming at time. He tries to say a lot in the film and succeeds on most levels. I really dug the surrealism of the ending. One of the most original horror films of the 90's. Check it out!!!!!!
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Read the article that Will Helm wrote on 411 mania about it in Missunderstood Masterpieces. Funny stuff.

Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I like the movie a lot. It's deep, much deeper than it appears. The appearances of Death were quite impressive.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I loved it but it's been years since I saw it. I don't remember a damn thing about it. I'd definantly buy it on DVD if I could.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I adored this movie, and I thought that with it Soavi showed himself to be a far better filmmaker than his "mentor" Dario Argento. It has some of the most awe-inspiring setups and cinematography I've ever seen, plus Everett is great. Can't recommend it enough.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2003 I loved it but it's been years since I saw it. I don't remember a damn thing about it. I'd definantly buy it on DVD if I could. Best bet is to look on the net for the region 2 DD DVD. Paramount owns the US rights and have said that they have no plans to release it on DVD......
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 15, 2003 Well Paramount didn't obtain the rights just for the hell of it. It'll get a DVD release sooner or later, Paramount was likely just saying that they have no immediate plans.
